My allegiances end at the bridge by the Windmill.
Well in the good old days your allegiances would stretch to the top of Lohercannon before Ash Grove but times may have changed.

Karl Mullins with cruciate & John Ferguson achilles. Chuckie Carroll would be a starter too if fit. Don't forget Stacks were without Ronan Shanahan also - but definitely Rahillys had to dig deep in their panel for players. May stand to them in the future but getting to (and winning) a county championship is no easy task.

I think Stacks will win Munster as the other teams aren’t great. I can’t see them winning the All Ireland though, they don’t have enough quality in the forwards.

Terrace Talk haven't even nominated Joe O'Connor for Player of the Championship. Thought he'd win it out being honest. 4 nominees were: Gavin White Dylan Casey Jack Savage Tommy Walsh
Surprised Tony Brosnan didn't make their TOTY either. Team was 1) Wayne Guthrie 2) Cormac Coffey 3) Dylan Casey 4) Jack O'Shea 5) Gavin White 6) Andrew Barry 7) Paul O'Sullivan 8) Joe O'Connor 9) Tom Hoare 10) Michael O'Gara 11) Jack Savage 12) Brian Looney 13) Darragh O'Brien 14) Tommy Walsh 15) Kieran Donaghy
Player of the Year: Tommy Walsh

He had the biggest impact.

Wayne is only 32 or so, which is still plenty young enough for a GK. Cluxton was pushing 40 and still was one of Dublins most important players. If he's good enough, then he's young enough. Might not be a bad call to have him as competition for Shane Ryan.

Although thinking back when we were switching between Kealy and Kelly he would probably have been an upgrade if someone had decided to look at him as as a goalkeeper at inter county. Now though if a keeper is to come in, I can only see it being Shane Murphy.

Is Ballyroe considered Ardfert or Tralee for GAA? All very contentious issues to be honest. Tommy Walsh lives on the road from Tralee to Churchill and there’s a bridge after his house that is supposed to be the dividing line but it’s very up in the air. Some players from the kerries have played with rahillys and some with Churchill. Some players from ballyroe have played with stacks, some with ardfert, some with Churchill and I’m sure there has been the odd narrie there too You will always have a few lads living in Churchill that are playing with rahillys and stacks. They will have moved out there but be from town families originally.

Is 'The Kerries' KoR country Yes. The Savages are from there, I think. Jack and Gearoid Savage played a lot of hurling with Saint Brendans Ardfert up to under 21 Jack has a minor hurling championship medal Parnells were not around at the time , so they were hurling with Ardfert

Strand Road have clubs nibbling at them no matter which side they turn.... Blennerville, Churchill, Ardfert, Stacks and Mitchells.
Na Gaeil seems to stretch out to Abbeydorney and they have Dan Goggin from Causeway too.
You would think that Mitchells will get stronger as the town develops towards Ballymac.

Wayne has played At International Level Underage for Ireland in soccer prior to giving the GAA a full time go when he was Kerry Minors. Is there any keeper who would be better in the Air under a high ball? He is well able to pick out a pass and keepers reach their peak at a much older age so given he is still 32, there is a good 4-5 years that Kerry could do with him! I don’t think step up at Inter county level would be any hurdle

The final act was as simple as it was brilliant from Stacks. The pin point kickout towards the sideline where KD has the height advantage. The fetch by KD and the instant pass to set O'Connor racing through. A momentum shifting moment and you would expect no one else but KD to be at the centre of such a vital play.
KD proves that you dont need all the skills and athleticism to be a great player. Leadership drips off him as well as a refusal to accept defeat.
Maybe if he had hung around the Kerry panel under PK things might have been different. I wouldn't have minded a cameo from him in the final minutes of the drawn 2019 final when experience of closing out a game was needed or under that dropping ball into the Kerry square v Cork in the 2020 Munster final.

Ger O’Keeffe: Austin Stacks can drive it on in Munster
O’Keeffe believes that, to progress and be successful in the provincial competition and beyond, improvement will be required
MON, 06 DEC, 2021 - 21:33 JOHN O’DOWD Former Austin Stacks star Ger O’Keeffe has urged the newly crowned Kerry kingpins to keep their foot on the throat of the opposition, when in control of games, during the Munster club championship campaign, which begins against Newcastle West in a fortnight.
Despite being thrilled with Sunday’s three-point victory over Tralee rivals Kerins O’Rahillys, which clinched a record-equalling 13th county title for the Rockies, O’Keeffe believes that, to progress and be successful in the provincial competition and beyond, improvement will be required.
He said: “They were deserving winners, but they made heavy work of it. All their four games to date, they had periods where they appeared to lose their way. Is it that they just feel they are going to win it, and they suddenly start to close up shop? The biggest danger with doing that, is that if you give away a few easy turnovers, then the opposition can get a score, and that’s wind in the sails for them.
“Sometimes you can lose your momentum, and they have lost the momentum at certain stages in all their matches, which was a bit worrying. When there was only three points in it, we have seen in numerous matches how a winning goal, or an equalising goal, from a high ball or a mistake, can happen.
“It was a game that they were totally in control of, but they should have put more scores on the board and should have been more comfortable coming towards the end.
“Whatever is happening to them, they do lapse a little bit, whether that is a lapse in concentration, or something else.”
O’Keeffe, a five-time county champion in the 1970s and ’80s, has huge admiration for the defensive structure installed by manager Wayne Quillinan.
“There is great organisation there. It’s like the defence in a basketball match, and you can see the influence of Kieran (Donaghy) and Wayne from being basketballers, in the type of defence that they set up. There are no holes in it, there is nobody careering through the middle.
“The way Wayne might look at it is, while we might not have the greatest forwards, if we don’t give away too much, we will have a chance in every game.”

Whatever about hanging around under PK, Donaghy’s omission from the starting XV in 2015 final was a major faux pas; he had almost single handedly won Stacks a county in 2014 & nobody deserved the honour more of leading out his county in an All Ireland final. His form in 2015 was patchy but there was no man better for the big occasion - I firmly believe had he started we would have been a different team & could have won the game.

Absolutely agree re:2015 too. First time I seriously began to question Fitzmaurice and the mistakes kept coming in major games thereafter.
Donaghy, more than anyone on that team, deserved the honour of leading out his county on All Ireland final day. The fact they left him on the bench when the weather and type of game that developed was crying out for a player like himself was mind boggling.
Once he came on he changed the game and Dublin were struggling to cope, Killian or any other player would have buried that goal chance Star setup 99 times out of a 100. And if it had gone in, I'm convinced we would have seen the game out despite being second best for most of it.
Alas, another All Ireland that went a begging this past decade.

He was also clearly fouled for a penalty in the 2015 final but the Dublin based ref was never going to give that.

He was also clearly fouled for a penalty in the 2015 final but the Dublin based ref was never going to give that. it's hard to believe that dublin based reffs were allowed to reff dublin games and little was ever said about it, pundits afraid of their lives of dublin. IV said it before, in what other sport would the governing body allow a reff based in the home of 1 of the competing teams reff that teams game? In 2019 Geaneys penalty should have been retaken because the cluck was about 5 yards off his line but Gough wasn't going to rock the boat, I read an article a few months ago where Gough was on holidays with John horan I mean that can't be right.

Kingdom boy, While I agree 100% that a referee residing in a county should not be allowed to officiate in a game involving that county I think it’s fair to say your average pensioner would have stopped Geaneys attempt in the ,19 final. It lacked power and was kicked at the perfect height for a keeper and cluxton had little to do to stop it. On Donaghy it was a huge mistake not to start him in the ‘15 final as he is a big game player and the captaincy would give him an extra edge as a leader but an even bigger mystery is why EF didn’t bring him on in the super 8s game against Galway in 2018.
The game was hand made for him, Kerry were lifeless and there was no atmosphere in a sparsely crowded Croke Park and he would have horsed into Sean Andy O Ceallaig and put him on his arse and put a bit of life in the place and a bit of badly needed fire in the belly of the Kerry lads. I was pulling my hair out that day, he started to warm up with about 20 minutes to go and all the Kerry supporters were saying finally and the Galway supporters were worryingly saying here comes trouble now and Fitzmaurice trotted him back up into the stand and brought on BJ keane and Donacha,, I think we could have won that championship if he hadn’t made that mistaken

MUNSTER CLUB SFC SEMI-FINAL
Austin Stacks 1-15
Newcastlewest 0-8
It is a Kerry versus Cork Munster final next month after Austin Stacks easily saw off Newcastlewest in a one-sided semi-final to set up a provincial decider with St Finbarrs that will surely test the Kerry champions much more than they were in Tralee this afternoon.
Stacks would have girded themselves for a tough contest against the Limerick champions but it never materialised, and so the Tralee club will contest their first Munster Club Championship final in seven years, when they face Cork champions St Finbarrs in January.
Stacks were without listed starters Ronan Shanahan, in defence, and corner forward Shane O’Callaghan, but such is their strength in depth that they looked as well balanced and strong as they had been through the county championship. They hit their stride from the get go against a Newcastlewest side that was game and energetic, but lacked a cutting edge in attack that put them in trouble from early in the contest.
O’Callaghan’s replacement Sean Quilter pointed Stacks into the lead from a free in the third minute, and the scores came regularly for the Rockies from there on. Darragh O’Brien converted two frees before Brendan O’Sullivan worked a neat move with Fiachna Mangan for the former to score Stacks first point from play. Another O’Brien free saw Stacks lead 0-5 to no score at the water break.
It wasn’t all bad from the Limerick champions. They defended well in that first quarter, boxing out Donaghy particularly well, and they won their share of possession around midfield. But it was in the red zone where they lacked penetration.
Credit to Stacks for much of that, whose defending was excellent, collectively and individually. As they have been all season, they defended in numbers and with great discipline, forcing the visitors into low percentage shots when they could eventually find a sliver of time and space for themselves.
Newcastlewest’s first score arrived courtesy of an Eoin Hurley free in the 24 th minute but Stacks were relentless in their efficiency, and scores from Donaghy (from play and a mark) and two converted frees from O’Brien had Stacks in the ascendancy at half time, leading 0-9 to 0-1.
O’Brien hit two early scores after half time to stretch Stacks’ lead, but then the Limerick men enjoyed their best period. Shane Stack had a sniff of a goal but was fouled in the build-up and Hurley converted the free. Mike McMahon then converted a mark, sub Diarmaid Kelly scored from play, and then their county man, Iain Corbett fired over from distance to make it 0-11 to 0-5.
It gave the sizeable travelling support something to cheer about but their excitement and hope was short-lived. Greg Horan whipped over a good point just before Joe O’Connor’s surging run fed Sean Quilter near the end line, and his inviting cross was tapped to the net by Brendan O’Sullivan to make it 1-12 to 0-5. O’Sullivan followed up with a point to put Stacks 11 ahead at the water break, and it was elementary thereafter.
Newcastlewest managed three consolation scores after that but Stacks were home and hosed. Thinking of Christmas, thinking of a Munster final in mid January, and thinking of their manager Wayne Quillinan, present on the day, whose mother-in-law passed away the day before.
A win for Austin Stacks, then, with perspective.
AUSTIN STACKS: Wayne Guthrie, Colin Griffin, Dylan Casey, Jack O’Shea, Paul O’Sullivan, Conor Jordan, Barry Shanahan, Joseph O'Connor, Greg Horan 0-1, Michael O’Gara, Fiachna Mangan, Brendan O’Sullivan 1-2, Sean Quilter 0-1 (f), Kieran Donaghy 0-2 (1m), Darragh O’Brien 0-8 (5f).
Subs: Armin Heinrich for J O’Shea (42), Shane O’Callaghan 0-1 for F Mangan (43), Michael O’Donnell for K Donaghy (51), Jack Morgan for P O’Sullivan (53), David Fitzmaurice for M O’Gara (54)
NEWCASTLEWEST: Andrew Ruddle, Michael O’Keeffe, Darren Carmody, Brian O’Sullivan, Eoin Murphy, James Kelly, Steven Brosnan, Cian Sheehan 0-1, Iain Corbett 0-1, AJ O’Connor, Shane Stack, Brian Hurley, Bryan Nix, Mike McMahon 0-1 (m), Eoin Hurley 0-3 3(f).
Subs: Diarmaid Kelly 0-2 for B Hurley (29), Sean Murphy for S Brosnan (ht), Thomas Quilligan for S Stack (39), Lee Woulfe for J Kelly (46), Donnchadh Woods for M McMahon (52).
Referee: Sean Lonergan (Tipperary)
