Gguilla look strong and will be looking to make amends for their final defeat a few weeks back. You'd imagine that they would be the strongest team in this

Hard luck to Senans, they started well and had the lead at half time but just couldn't maintain that momentum.

Very little talk about this competition on here I travelled to both semi finals at the weekend so I said I would give a small report. Firstly on Saturday i went to Beaufort to see Gneeveguilla v St.michaels Foilmore. I went there with the expectation of a brilliant game having watched the quality of Gneeveguilla in last seasons final. But, i had also seen St.Michaels narrowly lose to Fossa in the group stage in Fossa where truthfully they let the game behind them and would have won if not for Clifford magic. My hopes were even more heightened when i saw Matthew O'Sullivan was named in the Foilmore outfit for the first time this season. However, Gneeveguilla quickly put the game to dead just 10 minutes into the game where they leaded 2-6 to 0-1 at the waterbreak the game was all but over at this early stage and finished with a score of 4-15 to 1-5. You could not but be impressed by Gneeveguilla, they tackled like maniacs throughout the game clearly hurting from there county final defeat. I attented four games at the weekend and they were by far the hardest working. What to take from the game firstly the gulf in class between the team playing Div.5 and Div.1 football next year was obvious. Gneeveguilla managed to keep Foilmore to only 1-2 from play (of which 1-1 was scored when the bench was ran).Onto player performance there was someo utstanding performers for Gneeveguilla particularly in defence (they appear very well organised) and all compliments too them when your forwards score 4-15 but your defence still stands out. Pa warren was outstanding head and shoulders above anyone else on the field kicking 1-4 from wing back. I believe he was inside with the kerry seniors last year and if he has a good county championship with East Kerry he will seriously be putting his hand up for Jack. Eanna O'Connor is an excellent forward who was playing senior football in KIldare with Moorefield (kicking 1-8 in a Leinster semi-final just 3 years ago). But, he was expertly handled by Darren Brosnan and Owen Fitzgerald keeping himscoreless from play and really out of the game. i Would expect to definetly see both inside with East Kerry could one steal a staring jersey i would not be surprised. Ronan Collins was very solid in Midfield catching one unbelievable kickout over matthew o sullivan. The forward line was run by the old timer Mike stones Murphy proving a great linkman for his club in his last few years. The inside line of Paudraig Doyle and shane sullivan complimented eachother very well with the hard running of Doyle setting up good scoring chances for a quite big but very light on his feet full forward in Shane O Sullivan. Gneeveguilla I would consider very hard to beat this year.

Next on the Sunday was Listry v Skellig Rangers in Glenbeigh. My enthusiasm was not as high going to this game having seen Gneeveguilla paly the day before and knowing Listry had previously ran them to 4 points. Listry blazed out the blocks and leaded 1-6 to 0-1 at one stage in the game. Needless to say i was planning on leaving the game but i was lucky i did not. During this Listry dominance they were winning every ball with Ruairi Murphy and Ronan Buckley looking to be the driving force of the team along with a classy Aaron o shea upfront. Skellig did fight back to leave it 1-7 to 5 at half time but lIstry never looked like losing. However, after the break the tables had completely turned Skellig were winning all the fine margins such as breaks and 50/50 balls. Listry can feel they left the game behind them leaving simple chances behind them as Skellig lead by the brilliant Gerard and Darragh O'Sullivan went on a 5 point unanswred streaka nd the teams were level. Anthony Sweeney created good chances for Listry when he came of the bench but time and time again they couldnt convert. which Kellig deserve great credit for. Darragh O'Sullivan kciked the last 2 points of the game to bring his tally to 9 for the day and Skellig looked the winners with time up. However the game was still not over and with the last play of the game Paudie Lehane made a gut bursting run through the Skellig defence and looke da certain goal but the net he rattled was unfortunately the side netting. Final score Skellig after a heroic comeback won 0-14 to 1-8. Darragh O'sullivan was exceptional inside for Skellig kicking 8 points. Gerard O'Sullivna appeared to be the playmaker for Skellig anything good went through him and he was the best player on the field. After a shakey start the skellig defence settled into it very well keeping LIstry to just 1 point in the second half a stat you dont see too often. When Listry were on top Ruairi Murphy looked outstanding for them running the show setting up and scoring for them Aaron o shea was also looking dangerous. However, when the chips were down very little LIstry man stood up with the exception of the veteran Jimmy O'Shea he used all his experience to lead by example. If Skellig can put that second half performance into a full 60 minutes they well be incredibly hard to beat and could well catch Gneeveguilla (just like Ballydonoghue did last year in what was one of the best game sof out and out football i ever saw). But, at the moment having seen the weekends action whenever the final will be played Gneeveguilla will warrant the Favourites tag again.

Urban were beaten by Boherbue so they now meet ballinhassig in the cork co final. Hard to see Gneeveguilla progressing without massive improvement on today.

Gneeveguilla lost the county final 9 weeks ago in probably the best county final I have ever seen (3-18 to 3-20 AET). Yesterday they finally got there hands on the cup playing one of the worst county finals I’ve ever seen. They lost the the beautiful to win the horrid war.

I think in fairness to Gneeveguilla they normally don’t play with numbers behind the ball - skellig played with at least 12 behind the ball & Gneeveguilla it seems to me were not able to break down that system — I think it was a great game plan by skellig who with a limited team almost pulled it off. Not sure I agree that the subs won it for Gneeveguilla- they actually brought back on 2 players they had already taken off and were in the process of bringing on a third! Funny when you consider I counted I think 20 subs on the field at half time— these guys must have just come for the celebrations🤣🤣
