It's just something that has got to me over the last year or so is the criticism of David and constant calls for him to be replaced.
One of our main weapons over the last few years started by Eamon and carried on by Peter is the 11 man press we do which is so effective we strangled the life out of cork with it. We move 4 into both attacking lines and have 3 in the middle it more or less forces teams to a) pull enough players back for a short one or b) go long
Option a means the opposition have less players in attack and we have enough players in their half to really pressure them high up the pitch to allow lads get back in position.
Option b turns it into an aerial competition in the middle which when David is playing gives us a big advantage against most teams he is still one of the best fielding mfs out there.
David is so fundamental to this as he scares the opposition in a way that our other mfs dont I get why people think we should have more mobility there but this is such a huge weapon for us that we need to stick with David.
Hopefully Diarmuid o connor will be fit in 2 weeks and if he is id play Barry again and Moran and o connor. Leave geaney inside with the other David.

I'd nearly argue this tactic was developed with Moran in mind..it was savage on Sunday with Shane Ryan nearly out to the 45 and all that was behind him was 2 Cork forwards..its ideal for a Kerry free or 45 to have it set up ,a bit trickier to do in normal time especially in Croke Park with ball boys firing back footballs double fast..I see somewhere we scored 2-4 out of Cork kick outs, winning 11 of them

David Moran is a huge part of the game plan and is constantly calling for the ball. Darragh was similar in his day, showing up as a second goalie at times to field a high ball back there. An All Ireland Medal and an all star awaits him this year. I hope he gets both!

Re David and the other midfielders, kudos for last Sunday and fair play. But a midfield battle against a Fenton\McCarthy\Howard combo is just different gravy to the Cork less than medicore midfield

Sinéad Kissane cost us with this kind of nonsense and the timing is similarly just 'perfect.'
In the interests of Kerry football, close down this thread.
And hand in the jersey!

Morans value remains immense and is pivotal to the attacking game plan. His passing, vision, link play are a level above the other midfielders. He looks to move the ball forward constantly and never hides. Some prefer the type of midfielder who never take any risks and would not even dream of doing what Moran does.
Moran may have slowed down a bit but he is an automatic starter and even if he does not deliver against say Dublin that does not mean it was wrong to play him.

The 2019 incident, when he was caught in possession towards the end of the game with Kerry ahead, remains in people's minds. Until it is hopefully replaced by something more positive at the end of a crucial game, it remains as the starting point for much of the criticism that I have heard in recent times. I'm not saying it's valid criticism but it gives people certain ready made ammunition.

Well, people may think that but it just highlights their lack of knowledge

I don't understand this thread. Kerry football following/supporters have high expectations of our footballers, for years, if not ever, high performance levels on the field and the success that comes with this could be attributed to this high expectation level. David Moran's performances are no more or less open to analysis than any other player.

Of course they are open to criticism and I've done it myself just felt it was always one way with him and people didnt acknowledge what he brings rather than what he doesn't !

Have to say having a thread on one player seems inappropriate to me.

I think we are playing a dangerous game here in having thread that interrogates our own, and the timing couldn't be worse.
If control wants it to stay then maybe we need to just ignore it and it will go away.
I wouldn't be posting on this thread again.
