So i got my wish of playing Tyrone great chance for the team to pit themselves against one of the best forward units around. I see Donegal and dublin will be at a neutral venue should we in the interest of fairness offer the same to Tyrone? The team id go with nearly picks itself in a lot of positions now. 1. Fitzgibbon 2.Tom Sullivan 3. Foley 4.sherwood 5.Murphy 6. Crowley 7.white 8. Moran 9.O'Connor 10.moynihan 11.O Shea 12.o brien 13. D.Clifford 14.Geaney 15.p.clifford
Above is based on Barry/Ryan/Morley not being available.

Also, we won our group; ok, no home advantage accrued from this but it probably should have. I doubt very much if Tyrone, or anyone else, would offer a neutral venue if the shoe was on the other foot. Dublin/Donegal was down for a coin toss so neither side was surrendering home advantage there.

Barry and Killian Spillane should be available. Barry just wasn’t risked against Roscommon while Killian Spillane only had a minor knock. Also Morley’s red card will surely be overturned. Not sure about Ryan but we there’s a good chance we’ll have a full compliment to pick from bar Ryan. Whatever PK views as his best 15 should be picked because this will be our last game against division 1 opposition before a potential All Ireland semi final.
There’ll be some very interesting selections. I think like many others, our best midfield combination is Barry and O’Connor. Will PK think likewise or continue with Moran? Also who will be inside with Clifford from Geaney, Spillane and Brosnan. Style wise I think Spillane compliments Clifford best because of his pace and he’s more direct than our other inside forwards. In saying that I’d find it hard to leave Geaney out, he’s top class when on form and we know he will stand up when the going gets tough. I think Brosnan’s role will be from the bench.

Well my first thought was that it was a very old thread resurrected when I saw O'Shea, Tom Sullivan, Crowley and Moynihan in the 15 😉

For this game and possibly Clare as well I'd be looking at trying a midfield partnership of maybe DOC & Spillane/Barry.. it appears that from the first 3 games the legs of Moran seem to be fading, he would still be invaluable to bring on for the last 20 when a game needs controlling and an experienced head to help do that but I have my doubts whether Moran has 70 minutes of Championship football in the legs anymore, I could be proven wrong but I think Keane needs to put trust in a more long term partnership. My team for Tyrone: 1)Fitzgibbon 2) B.Begley 3) Sherwood 4) Foley 5) Murphy 6) Crowley 7) White 8) A.Spillane 9) D.O'Connor 10) Moynihan 11) S.O'Shea 12) S. O'Brien 13) D.Clifford 14) K.Spillane 15) P.Clifford
Not sure if I'd make any changes to that for Championship either if I'm being honest. Spillane has been far better than Geaney so deserves the nod in my opinion. The only change I would consider would be perhaps Morley into the FB line for either Sherwood or Begley.

Tom Sullivan is definitely a starter when fit. He'll be very important as the year goes on. However he looked rusty the last day.

I read elsewhere that three lads have left the Tyrone panel. Cathal McShane will not be fit to play any part in this year’s championship. He suffered an ankle injury in Feb of 2020 and his rehab has been problematic. A talented player and a huge loss to Tyrone.

Anybody know the story with Shane Ryan’s injury and likely return date. The time frame mooted when he was injured was that he was likely to be out for “ 6-8 weeks” - injury occurred mid May, so should be back in time for Clare game , all going well.

I think Ryan is a sturdier option in goals and his kickouts are better than Fitzgibbons. Don't think Fitzgibbon has shown to be a viable option going forward unfortunately. Even in the Galway game when we were on top all over the field he still didn't look up to scratch and had a lot of wayward kickouts. I hope I'm wrong and that he proves to be a great asset but thats just my thoughts on his first few games.

I agree with keeping Ryan as he did well in the 19 final (with that pressure). His biggest mistake was getting caught v Mayo in the league last year. I can't fault him for trusting Tommy Walsh v Cork.

If I was playing against Ryan in goal for Kerry, I'd fire high balls in on top of him all day. For a tall man he really needs to learn to dominate the square

Very harsh judging a new goalie on his kickouts in his first game ! Need time to get used to the lads who are out the field runs calls etc. I think he has been fine tbh not spectacularly good or bad. Nerves can get the most of lads particularly in there first few games for the county
