okaaaaay..... so had Pat Lane penalised Bastick for picking the ball cleanly off the ground (more clearly a free that Joe's one at the end of 2011 final) would Mayo suddenly have gained your respect. In other words the vagaries of decisions by refs decide whether a team is worthy of respect by you. Is that it? I have no interest in going down this line. My belief is champion teams don't give the ref a chance to have a say. Dublin did in the drawn final of 2016.

Out and about in the capital and meeting known supportersl, the day is not being regarded as AIF day, it is much more regarded as the biggest shopping day of the year with one more distraction that is scheduled in for this evening. There is nearly a feeling that if spectators were allowed it might have been easy enough to get a ticket.

Dublin did in the drawn final of 2016. Dublin won the replay 🤷♂️ The Connelly free to give Dublin the win in 2017 was also a phantom free. What was Barret supposed to do jump out of his way? Then there were no black cards issued to the numerous Dublin players pulling down Mayo players on the ensuing kickouts. If you believe refs never have an influence on games and in this case three Dublin final wins you live in a Walter Mitty world.

I didn't say refs didn't have an influence on games: I said champion teams don't let them have an influence. Control the controllables. I would guess there were at least ten errors made by Mayo in that game that were worth more than one point. I had a look at that free by the way. To my eye the Mayo midfielder pushed the Dublin player into Barrett and presumably that is what the free was for. You could watch it again and argue but my point is if Mayo are two points up then that free doesn't matter. Oh, and I would issued multiple black cards to Dublin players at that point. You cannot control the ref is what I am saying - champion sides know this and so champion sides don't think in terms of the ref influencing the game - even if the ref does make mistakes (or not as the case may be). A team complaining about the ref is nearly always a losing team... and blaming the ref is just giving yourself an excuse not to improve.

Well done to Galway it just shows teams can beat the Dubs regardless of what finances they have. Galway from the word go wanted to win this game.

13 seconds for the goal supposedly, another kerry record broken. The GAA won't be happy until every kerry record is broken... And I've just seen the goal, a palmed goal AGAIN!!! 😡

At least the second was closed fist.

A second Dublin goal there, only one hand used this time, and I think it was a closed fist, therefore no palmed goal 😄, still a terrible type of goal.

Mayo are trying hard, they're doing most things right, but they'll have to do everything right in the second half, and even at that, it'll probably not be enough.

Perhaps it will happen in the second half but isn’t about time Aiden O’Shea asserted himself in an All-Ireland final.
Could we get rid of those basketball goals and offensive marks. Does not enhance the game in any way, Fruitless hope I suppose.

Dublin won at their ease. Almost like a professional team playing amateurs

Well, I think this win might undermine Jim Gavin, Christ I'd manage them to an AI at this rate.

Only one team played to their potential tonight and it was Mayo. They can be very proud of their effort.
Dublin in third gear.

People praising mayo for only losing by 5 points. It says it all about what a farce this whole thing is.

Congratulations to Dublin and I might as well congratulate them on the next 4 also. Mayo tried but faded in the last quarter. The Dublin football team has probably broken every record at this stage in Gaelic football and some players are heading towards 9 all Ireland medals come July which overtakes the Kerry greats. This is no doubt the greatest football team every well done to them.
