We only beat them by 3 last year, they did ok in the qualifiers and have been totally focusing on Kerry since last September/October. Will be interesting to see what Cian O Neill brings to the table

Will be interesting to see what Cian O Neill brings to the table Forewarned is forearmed ! You would think that we should be beating them all the same they are a decent team but we are operating at a higher level. Very different team to the one o neill was involved in at this stage. If we start with a savage intensity i dont think they will live with us as they have been playing at such a low level the last year. The lack of a backdoor will surely have us focused and how close they came to us last year i think we will win by a bit.

Provincial winners Ulster - Donegal Leinster - Dublin in third gear Munster - Cork could sneak in a last minute goal but Kerry have a better squad winners will win Munster. Connaught - Mayo at there best will leave Galway scratching their heads.

I was impressed with Cork's performance against Dublin last year in the Super Eights. You can never write them off. Kerry wont fear them Though and I'd say, as mentioned here, the safety net being gone will have them more focused. Hopefully it's a dry night and we stay injury free. It's only the Munster Semi Final after all and if Kerry progress, they'll need all players available for the next day. Peter Keane was very coy when a reporter asked him about Kerry having 14 men behind the ball v Donegal and if it would be a tactic used against Cork. " was there that many of them back" says he " we'll have to start counting them".

Games against Cork always have an unpredictability about them - form and strength on paper goes out the window. Derby games take on a life of their own and need to be treated with the utmost of respect. Cork will relish being underdogs - they have an infusion of young players who have tasted sucess against Kerry at u20 level, are off the back of a successful league campaign (who care what division) and Cork football is coming back to life. Cork always believe they can beat Kerry and this makes them dangerous. Make no mistake this is a dangerous game for Kerry - one they are more than capable of winning and one they should be winning with relative ease. But its a derby and a potential banana skin. Come on Kerry and keep our spirits high with a championship run that lifts us from the Covid-19 doldrums we are enduring.

Tyrone will beat Donegal, Roscommon will win Connaught, Dubs to walk Leinster and Cork could slip Kerry on Sunday week. If they do Dubs to easily do six in a row. If Kerry survive, they can improve going forward.

I dont think we will play that way for entire matches i believe (hope) that its was just PK using the 2 games to refine a part of a gameplan. I would be shocked if we(or any other team) won an all ireland playing blanket defence it has only been done once in 130 plus years after all! Prior to the introduction of the mark I would agree with you, but things have changed and I think no team with ambition can afford not to crowd the defensive half of the field. The work rate involved in this is savage but the alternative is to possibly offer handy pops from 30 - 40 yards. AFL is played exactly like this, nobody is anymore than 50 metres from the ball at any one time. Any further from the ball you are infective. Horrible to watch but this is what has been created. Hopefully the mark is discontinued soon as it is taking away from the flow and continuity of the game. I might reward forwards for winning ball but why do they deserve a free shot at goal because the catch a 30 yard kick pass into the chest? I can see the reasoning behind bringing players back and trying to force opposition to play through banks of men. I just don't like to see us, supposed purists and carriers of the flame for attacking heads up football, stoop to this level. Then again, evolve or die!!!

Regarding Leinster - Dublin wont win it in 3rd gear as I have read above. They will win it but it wont be like previous years. All is not well in the camp apparently and their last 2 games were very underwhelming. In Gavins time every game was approached the same way but under Farrel they look disinterested. I'll go on the record now and say that there is a few sides that would beat them and Donegal are one If they win Ulster.

Is there any outcome from the games in Munster that could produce a Munster final in a Kerry home venue (assuming that we beat Cork)?

It is all hope based speculation, who knows Dessie may be better than Jim and the Dubs still have a talent pool that has been nurtured for years, and what will all the funding, still I think it will be put to them with Kerry and Dgal the chief threats, and isn't that music to the ears of the likes of Galway, Mayo and Tyrone. We often forget that the reason games are played is to see who is best, as opposed to who is handy with a keyboard. Hopefully we will have a good GAA year that will give us all a lift and may the best team win.

Great to be in the position that we are in as regards depth of the squad. Only thing we are probably missing is some game time for corner backs such as Graham O'Sullivan and Shane Enright. Foley is still too easily turned for my liking. What are everyones thoughts on the blanket defence system? Will we have a problem with it as footballing purists if we win an All Ireland with it? No reason you can't change tactics for every game depending on the opposition. You need to play the Northern teams at their own game. Anyone who wants a shoot out, we can do it that way too.

Well there's one thing to take from this weekend; the weather. Anyway poor and it evens up the game dramatically, something we need to be aware of next Sunday. Long term though it looks alright next week but we won't have a clear idea before Thursday at least.

With the exception of Fenton and Kilkenny. Dublin will not win ths All Ireland this year. Who could blame them either. Note - I appreciate this is in the wrong thread

PUC was in great shape today. The re-sodding or drainage or whatever they did to it seems to be a success.

K Whelan says it's only a matter of when, i.e. they won't win AI finals forever!

I actually think the last team to beat them in the championship may well be next team to beat them again.

one step at a time for kerry. A good performance and win next Sunday by even 1 point is fine by me. this Fixture is set up lovely for Cork. Kerry need to rise above that, perform like true challengers for An All Ire and show that theyve learned and kicked on from 2019

We saw on Sat with Cavan beating Monaghan so nothing can be taken for granted.

The question that the Cavan result throws up for us is, how do we evaluate our performance against Monaghan in light of their failure against Cavan? At a minimum, it should concentrate the minds going into the game at the weekend. Anything can happen on any given day and we need to treat Cork with the respect that they deserve, which I know will be the case.
Having said that, this is a game that we should be winning with a bit to spare. Cork don't seem to have any kind of settled set-up. Their full back line especially vulnerable and will be tested - hopefully!

Last year I think we took Cork for granted. We had them on the ropes and believed it was going to be a repeat of the hiding the previous year. We almost got caught as a result.
Cork proved their second half performance was not a blip and finished with a respectable campaign. That coupled with a great league run (division 3 but still) should have them more confident. The only negative is that Longford didn't give them a game to get back up to speed. I hope so, a strong Cork means that Kerry will be battled hardened this year entering the semi finals as, with respect to Tipperary/Limerick, Keane will be offered an opportunity to try out fringe players in the Munster final.

I would have feared this game more back in the summer and I think Kerry will be more focused than they may have been in normal circumstances given the lack of a second chance now.
I assume Cork will revert to type and play a running game. Kerry look to have been practicing frustrating that type of game in the last two league games.

Team i would go with for next week keeping in mind the weather aswell.id go with peter at corner back think he was playing well there last year in the league and gavin (if available) is a tough nut we need a few battlers in this team to go with the speedsters. I think we will play with three in the middle so diarmuid to drop back and moynihan to wing forward .
1.Ryan 2.Peter crowley 3.morley 4.tom sull 5.murphy 6.gavin Crowley 7.white 8.moran 9.barry 10.diarmuid o connor 11.sean o shea 12.stephen o brien 13.brosnan 14.Clifford 15.moynihan

Hope there is no complacency here, look what happened to Cork Hurlers and Kilkenny nearly got caught.
We were league champions in 2006 and 2009 and on both occasions were beaten by Cork in PUC, also to note Cavan now a division 3 team beat Monaghan Division 1 and Derry Division 3 gave Armagh now a Division 1 a close run
