Some soft frees there for Crokes to even it all up.

I was surprised when I saw who was reffing the high profile Stacks Crokes game. I'd say he will be embarrassed watching that back. I wonder do any umpires understand the square ball rule also? The umpires seem to understand it alright as it was clearly the right call.

I can see why he gave it as a tackle from behind and the arm might have been pulled but lucky enough for the Crokes as the ref is guessing really as to what happened

He knocked the ball from his hands - why don't the umpires step in and correct the mistake?

He prob shouldn’t be reffing on the basis of guesses

the ball was knocked out of the hand but was it a rip of the ball or a pull of the hand.... no way could that be adjudicated on from 30 yards.
Very good game to watch.

Shame the match was decided on on a bum call. Good stuff though.

Love to know what he was at though, going out of his way to launch himself at Donaghy off the ball. If Peter Keane is looking at that, he's maybe wondering if this fellow might be a risk in a big game. He was playing well too.

What happened between donaghy and Fionn early in the 2nd half? Dunno but Donaghy seemed fairly incensed about it.

Yeah he looked like he wanted to take the head of Fionn.
I thought the burns sending off was a nothing. Players clash the whole time. With Burns, he has a bit of a reputation that goes against him in these type of scenarios

KD could have got a penalty in injury time at the end of normal time after Moloney shoulder to the chest.
The pitch looked in great shape after all the rain during the past few days.
Crokes showed great resolve.

great game to watch, compared to the borefest on 2 ,the playacting on 3 this is what championship football is all about. great scores, great individual displays, dodgy ref calls and added bonus of extra time. overall crokes deserved their victory as they made much better use of possession , brosnan unplayable, looneys bravery and they kept to their gameplan. stacks for all their effort did not have the cuteness to get easy scores that are vital to win close games.

Entertaining match in Tralee and overall I felt Dr. Crokes were worthy winners. They were slicker and smarter as is their wont. One manifestation of this was was their ability to get the ball to Tony Brosnan , who was masterful. On the other hand, particularly in the first half, Stacks made no use of KD who was as game as ever but clearly now playing from memory. Soon to be gone but never to be forgotten. Another weakness of Austin Stacks , in contrast to Dr. Crokes , was there inclination to kick from impossible angles.
Brian Looney continues to be a great trooper. Has always been short of intercounty level but rarely if ever is less than adequate at club level and usually is far above that rating.
Of course Kieran O’Leary is still a menace. One of the best club players of his era. Not bad at a higher level too!
It goes without saying that the return of Gavin White and David Shaw will strengthen them considerably but only time will tell if they have solidified that defence which has been their undoing in the past, especially at national level.
Just as he did in the u20 match against Cork , young Sean Quilter suggested that we may have uncovered another diamond. Many a slip of course between now and immortality. Stay well Sean.
I was not aware that the O’Sullivan boys had transferred from Valentia. Are they working in Tralee? The transfer is understandable to an extent I suppose if your intent is to further an intercounty career. However, on the evidence of tonight I suspect that when their phone rings tomorrow if will not be from Peter Keane.
I felt the penalty was harsh . At the very least it was dubious. Just like when you are sending a player off you need to be sure of the decision. Cannot recall if he consulted the umpires.
Similarly, I thought the red card against Michael Burns, who had a fine game , was harsh although I am sure what Michael was trying to do to KD. Whatever it was I don’t think it succeeded! Michael can be a bit impulsive.

Stacks will regret not playing Quilter when they were playing with the wind. They could have bombarded Donaghy and Quilter with high ball and Crokes just would not have had the size at the back to deal with it.
I know Crokes are missing some important players but they are a pale shadow of the team of even 2 years ago at the moment.

He is consistently very poor, never any idea how he gets big games. Especially with it being on TV you’d think they would’ve given it to Hayes or Brendan Griffin

KD could have got a penalty in injury time at the end of normal time after Moloney shoulder to the chest.
The pitch looked in great shape after all the rain during the past few days. Crokes showed great resolve. I watched the full game again earlier as i had missed the first half last night It was just as well i wasnt the ref. The hit on KD was well outside the penalty area. If VAR was there, the ref would have spent a long time looking at the video for both penalties. Shanahan did nothing at all as Looney cut in for the first penalty and for the second, after a few minutes staring at the video the ref would probably have concluded that the ball was ripped out of the Crokes players hand. That said, Crokes were better. Crokes were a bit like Dublin, they didnt try for points that were not on and were content to work the ball till Tony Brosnans left left could be deployed. How any times did Stacks kick wides from shots that were not on...the subs were especially guilty. Micheal Burns seems desperate to show that he is a hardman but for me the real hard man was Looney last night. He seemed to have been flung into the wall at the side yet played on in obvious pain, scored a brilliant point when it must have been hard to keep possession and fetched a kickout while he was at it. Kieran OLeary went down on a ball at the end of the first period of extra time knocking that he could easily be injured. He got a free and it led to a point. Its bravery like than that lifts everyone. When Stacks won it in 2014, Shane OCallaghan looked a real prospect. He was taken off last night. Stacks have a few great prospects coming up and lets hope they reach their potential. The well worn path of young lads heading off to College in Cork, Limerick and Dublin may change for students due to the pandemic. Clubs may have players around all week while they study from home with maybe a week a month away in College. How that will effect things long term i dont know. But clubs will be happy enough i suspect.
