This is not good news this morning - rumours abounded for last few weeks that matters were not well but I had hoped there would be a good resolution. www.kerrygaa.ie/news_detail/10061363/

This is a disaster in my opinion. Donnie was and is considered an excellent coach and I'm really annoyed over this. Why can't people work for the greater good of Kerry football instead of letting egos get in the way.

Not that surprising but a huge pity.
It never seemed that he was wanted by PK and the rumours that abounded after the final last year seem to be on the money.
I think it's time to get another Maor Foirne and have Tommy Griffin casting a more tactical eye on things happening on the field instead of running into it.

He cut a forlorn figure in Castlebar last Sunday. Did he step down or was he pushed?

He cut a forlorn figure in Castlebar last Sunday. Did he step down or was he pushed? Thought the same. Very much sidelined. I'm sure there will be plenty other inter County teams scrambling for his input.

Was always going to end in tears. The county board more or less said donie had to be part of the new management team post fitzy.
Heard lots of times last year he was unhappy with the little amount of time he got to work with the players. Explains why our defense is still a shambles.
Also rumours that another member of the management team is not happy with his role either

Donie gets all the credit but none of the blame!
Big pity though.

Was Donie given the job of "coach" or was he just part of "the Management team".
Tim Murphy doesnt mention the word coach in his statement.

I highlighted this in a previous thread and was told it was only pub talk it looks like a case of too many chiefs and no indians PK only got the job when Maurice refused it so certain animosity there Buckley was brought in to bring his defensive coaching background to the table but not once did I see him involved in the warm up like he was with Mayo and the fact he headed off to the States for 4 months tells its own story PK should take a look at how Jim Gavin got the most of out of his management team and delegate appropriately instead of feeling threatened don't be surprised if another one is gone before the year is over

I'd rather have seen PK go than Donnie Buckley.

I'd rather have seen PK go than Donnie Buckley. What a ridiculous statement. He lead Kerry to 3 All Ireland minors,to within a whisker of upsetting the 5 in a row for the Dubs,a National League final place and again in the top 2 of the League as we speak.

The announcement of Donie’s departure brings to the surface what has been brewing for some time and was no great secret. Internal division is a misery that few groups escape completely – it’s the nature of the beast. Men and women of the best intentions, sharing common goals, will disagree.
We must not now be rendered impotent by the factional disputes that drain our men of the unity, energy and resolve necessary to dethrone the six-in-a-row seeking Dubs. Success is a long haul and winning All-Irelands for Kerry should be a strong enough thread to weave together all the individual strands, but it seems not. ‘Death by infighting’ is all too often the epitaph on sporting tombstones.
The only leverage that remains with the players is their unity. I sincerely hope that the departure of what was commonly perceived as our greatest asset will not ultimately be our undoing.
Yes, Peter has every right to be proud of the success that he has earned at Minor level. He is now in the second year of a two year appointment and he will be assessed after that. For all of our sakes, I hope he gets it right.

Not in my eyes it's not, We have one of the worst defensive records in the league. Donnie Buckley is credited with turning Mayos backs into the great tacklers they became. Only this week Seamus Moynihan on the examiner podcast stated how good he was and that he needed more time with the players. I'll put it this way, If a manager such as PK can't see the bigger picture and see the quality that Donnie Buckley has which has been verified by numerous ex Kerry players and Mayos players then for me that is not a good trait in a manager in any walk of life.

I cannot imagine there is much in the way of tactical or technical work which are allegedly Buckley’s strength going on at the moment so why leave at this stage of the year.

Some people are putting false statements about players prefer Donie, that is total horse .... Donie has achieved very little and has been fully involved with Kerry coaching infact all of it. The conditioning of players is poor and he has been there over a year.

The conditioning of players is poor and he has been there over a year. Donie has had little or no input to this year having only returned from the US prior to our game in Tyrone. He had a much bigger coaching role last year with the team preparation for the Super 8s - in effect, he took a lot of the coaching sessions after the Munster final. The conditioning is down to McGahan/Murphy/O’Mahony.

PK had great success at minor level no doubt and hats off to him but there is a massive step up from minor to senior management. At senior level the manager has to have a strategy over a prolonged number of years. Minor teams are constantly rotating and changing as a consequence of the age issue and the underage setup in Kerry has been very helpful to our recent successes. When he departed Kerry years back and went to Mayo he massively improved their defensive structure turning them into the best tackling and defending teams bar none. When he returned to the Kerry fold I was thrilled as we had been repeatedly pipped as a result of defensive frailties imo. Mayo dined at the top table because of their ability to shut down most teams, the dubs were fortunate twice to barely scrape by them. Before this current management team was put in place I didn’t really care who was chosen once Buckley was given the task of building a defensive strategy as this aspect of the game was repeatedly proving to be our Achilles heel, I am really pissed off to see this man walk away yet again from his own county team. Our loss could be another top teams massive gain,

This is shattering news, particularly in mid season. Interestingly enough at a North Kerry game last November I was told that this was brewing . Presumably it was festering last year and obviously fences have not been mended.
I do not know the genesis of this dispute but I suspect the Peter Keane Donie Buckley alliance was a forced marriage. Whatever the reason I am totally demoralised because of it. Everybody within and without the county speak glowingly of Donie while Peter has an enviable record as a manger. Big egos not prepared to compromise? I have no idea but surely nobody is bigger than the Kerry brand and therefore everybody should have been prepared go give a little.
It will be an utter heartbreak if Donie throws in his lot with another county, perhaps Galway as somebody has suggested. I will make one prediction , if things don’t work out for Kerry this year Peter will shoulder a lot of criticism. That may be grossly unfair but that is the way of the wicked world. Sad beyond words.

Jim Gavin got the best team he could to work with him to allow Dublin to win all Ireland's. Our manager obviously believes he can do it himself. As regards his minor successes he can thank JOC for passing on the team to him. Any manager worth his salt would win with DC in the team
