Parish rivalry with the odd outbreak of handbags, schemossle, call it what you like, has sustained the GAA for 125 years or more.
Little harm it did.

On a sidenote, all the talk on the sideline was about Paul o donoghue, by all accounts he played championship football in Australia and even won player of the year for his club. Supposedly he wasn't to play yesterday as he is ineligible but nonetheless started on the 40 and had a fine game Should St Mary's not forfeit for fielding an ineligible player?

Why wouldn't he be eligible.

Why wouldn't he be eligible. I would assume because he was playing championship football in Australia? And before you say he wasnt, he clearly was. Theres plenty of photos on facebook of him playing for his club in the WA final. He also was awarded the player of the year for St Finbarrs.(which is a great achievement if he never actually played as argued by some) Either way I wont lose sleep over it as im not from either club but it will be interesting to see how the sk board deal with it. They will have to either rule him out of the replay or clarify why he is allowed to play, its fairly simple. Back to business though and the final is set for the 11th of January, no venue decided as yet. I hear Waterville being mentioned, I took a quick spin down to their new pitch and it looks amazing. Definitely will be a super venue for finals in the future. Im not so sure they would want their brand new pitch being cut up for a sk final though so id be amazed if the game went ahead there. On the other hand it would be a great occasion to show it off. I think Glenbeighs pitch was very impressive for the mid kerry final a few weeks back, i think they both went at their pitches around the same time

Not possible to rule him out of replay. If he was ineligible dromid would automatically be champions because he played in drawn game. Cant see how they could use evidence from Facebook under gdpr. So unless you have offical team list there is no evidence. Replay in glenbeigh

He may have transferred back to St Marys, as they are two separate club championship (where the winners of one don't meet the winners of the other)he would be eligible ?

I'm sure there's rural clubs all over ireland struggling for numbers that will be delighted to know they can fly in lads to play when it suits

If he didn't transfer to Australia properly, he was illegal in Australia. Not in Kerry.

Championship he played in wasn't competitive enough.
It was cleared by the county board. Give it up lads, is Declan on here with this pettyness?

I didn't think the county board would meet over the Christmas holidays. Out of curiosity how would you define not competitive enough? For the record I would highly doubt the officials from either club would be bothered commenting. They can leave that up to the barstoolers like ourselves Any word on a venue yet? The forecast looks decent for the next while, possible it could go back to portmagee?

Rules are rules Paulie played in Australia Championship and played in the South Kerry Championship and the only reason Valentia didn't object to Paulie playing against them was that they played a 16 year old so they had no leg to stand on. So dromid well within there right to get the game awarded to them.

Sure what about all the kerry lads that play county championship in Cork with UCC, then play club and county championship back in Kerry all in the same year and the lads on the J1's playi g championship in america, then back.

Paul Donoghue cleared to play last night at a meeting by the sk board. Apparently some new ruling brought about in the last 2 years only affecting Australia. It mustnt have been that clearcut a rule as its nearly 2 weeks since the drawn game so it took them long enough to clarify it which seems a bit unnecessary, meaning all the confusion and paper talk could easily have been avoided. Dromid were right to question it though and you can be sure the Marys would have done the same if the boot was on the other foot.
Portmagee has been chosen as the venue once again so its next saturday at 2. 3 week break between games so whoever made the most of the xmas break should come out on top you would imagine. I know alot of the Marys lads dont drink so christmas holidays wont have taken too much out of them! Also the 3 week break will surely have been a huge benefit to Bryan Sheehans recovery as he was well strapped the first day out. Should be interesting, no idea of the ref and the weather is poor enough for the end of the week. Marys by 2 for me but I wouldnt be betting on it.
All this is incredibly hard on both sets of players and management, most will be back training within a week or two as they prepare for the sk league. Its easy see how football has lost its appeal, something badly needs to change

And so here we go again. The brains behind the ccc have decided that portmagee is not fit so they (in their wisdom😂)have decreed that ballinkelligs is to be the venue. In case they are not aware the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday is terrible so I would believe that the replay will be lost. Only God knows when this game will be played. The sooner real football people take over the running of football in South KERRY the better. Come back Jerimah only you can save us

If the weather comes through as bad as the forecast then I cant see this game going ahead at all, its torrential rain from tomorrow right through for a few days. Ballinskelligs pitch is soft enough at the best of times, there's no skill involved in football in this weather, it's pure sledging grit and luck that wins it. The fancy players may as well stay at home

Is it true as a result of the drawn game and incidents around it that there is going to be an enlarged number of stewards on duty as a well as a strong presence of the boys in blue.

A game that can only be described as an epic. There is so little between these teams. Mary's looked to have won it at the death with a Dennis daly goal but a late free from dromid kept them in it. Extra time ebbed and flowed but ultimately dromids fitness prevailed. Tough on st Mary's but they have been excellent champs and in sure they'll be the team to beat in next years championship. Chris farley was a worthy motm but there were many more right behind him. The dromid subs made a huge impact too. Paul Hayes reffed and did a great job, it wasn't easy out there id say. Dromid full value for the win, they've been on the wrong end a good few times so it's nice to see them win it. Full marks to bally for having everything in order on such short notice

Farley masterclass sees Dromid end 16-year South Kerry title famine By Mortimer Murphy
Dromid Pearses 1-13 - 2-8 St Mary's (AET)
Never-say-die Dromid Pearses ended St Mary’s dominance of the South Kerry senior football championship with victory, after extra-time, in Saturday's replayed final. The new champions - managed by Kerry legend Declan O'Sullivan - denied St Marys a ‘six-in-a-row’ for the second time in their history with the result being the Cahersiveen side’s first defeat in the competition since losing the 2013 semi-final to St Michaels/Foilmore.
St Mary's started brightly when Bryan Sheehan put over the first of five placed balls (a ‘45’) and his long delivery led to the game's opening goal in the 11th minute as Anthony Cournane and Jack Daly combined for the latter to fire home for a lead of 1-2 to 0-1.
The second quarter though was all Dromid as they hit five successive points - with Chris Farley to the fore - between the 15th and 29th minutes to lead by two.
Another long range free from Sheehan cut the gap to one (0-8 to 1-4) at the break.
Aidan Walsh equalised early in the second half but Dromid regained the lead in the 36th minute Farley converted a penalty.
That proved the last score until the 50th minute when efforts from Daniel Daly and Sheehan left just a point between the sides with five minutes of normal time left at (1-8 to 1-7).
A Dilan Donohoe effort appeared to give Dromid breathing space, but Sheehan and Jack Daly combined for another St Mary's goal which was finished by Denis Daly. Farley ensured extra-time in the second additional minute however with a free to make it 2-7 to 1-10.
Both teams scored only one point apiece in the first period of extra-time but Padraig ‘Jackie’ O’Sullivan’s point early in the second period set the tone for Dromid’s push to victory.
Farley’s final free in a ‘man-of-the-match’ performance ensured Dromid of a second South Kerry title in their history - 16 years after their first.
Scorers for Dromid Pearses: C Farley (1-8, 5f), D Donohoe (0-3), N O’Shea (f) and P O’Sullivan (0-1 each).
Scorers for St Mary's: B Sheehan (0-5, 4f, 1’45’), J Daly and Denis Daly (1-0 each), Daniel Daly (0-2, 2f) and A Walsh (0-1).

Subs: T Curran for Gearóid O’Sullivan (49), A O’Sullivan for O’Leary (53) and Denis O’Sullivan for M Sheehan (E/T).
ST MARY'S M Daly; P Cournane, B Curran, O Moran; C O’Shea, D O’Sullivan, P O’Donoghue; B Sheehan, Denis Daly; J Daly, A Quirke, D Casey; A Cournane, Daniel Daly, A Walsh.
