You would imagine whoever wins between St Michaels/Foilmore and Dromid will pose the biggest threat to an all conquering St Marys team looking for a historic 6 in a row. Realistically its hard to see them being beaten, Bryan Sheehan going for 12 medals I think which would be the record. Big win for Valentia the last day considering they havent fielded a team all year. Sneem/Derrynane were very depleted but i still thought they would put up a better show

Waterville: 0-7(7) St. Marys: 1-16(19) Report here kerrysportshub.ie/2019/11/24/second-half-gear-change-has-marys-in-final-four/Piarsaigh Na Dromoda : 0-11(11) St. Michaels/Foilmore: 1-3(6) Wasnt at either game but did hear a few reports. Waterville were a point down at ht and well in the game but a Marys goal right at the start of the second half killed them off and the Marys pulled away. Bryan Sheehan did play, i had heard he might miss out due to injury. Dromid looked comfortable enough against BallyFoilmore and had a decent lead at ht. A penalty in the first minute of the second half brought Bally back within touching distance but they never looked like they had enough firepower to get back into it. Semi final draws will be made after the last 1/4 game next weekend between Portmagee and Renard

Sugrue pivotal in Renard’s late rescue mission
South Kerry Senior Football Quarter Final
Renard 1-11 Skellig Rangers 0-13
Renard left Portmagee in 2017 having lost out to their hosts by the concession of a late goal; two years on the blues inflicted the same pain on Skellig Rangers as Joe McCrohan’s men bridged a six-point lead to pinch a place in the South Kerry Senior Football semi final.
The reward for Renard was a place in the last four in which they have to negotiate Dromid Pearses to get back to the South Kerry final.
With 49 minutes gone that never looked a likely outcome as they had played second fiddle to a Skellig Rangers side who really had played all the football and were full value for their double score lead 0-12 to 0-6.
Still Renard threw everything they had at the situation including their full complement of subs and even three by the start of the second half to rescue the situation.
The home side were impressive inside the opening ten minutes with Ciaran Keating (2) and Darragh O’Sullivan putting them 0-3 to 0-0 clear. A Mark Sugrue free merely stemmed the tide for the visitors as Skellig Rangers eked out a real goal chance with Michael O’Sullivan shooting narrowly wide on an advantage. Keating ensured the point from the free that followed.
The goal miss seemed to spur on Renard who finally got a foothold in the contest and were back level by the 16th minute when Killian Young fired over from distance.
Still Skellig Rangers through the very impressive Michael O’Sullivan were on the board again.
O’Sullivan had two brilliant points from play on the run and both at difficult angles. The diminutive figure was lively throughout and ended up with a number of different Renard markers for the afternoon such was his presence in the forward line.
PJ O’Sullivan’s men took a deserved 0-8 to 0-5 lead with them to the dressing rooms at the break as they awaited a Renard comeback who would enjoy the wind advantage in the second period.
By the three quarter mark, even the large vocal Renard support in the stand were still awaiting for their sides comeback as it was the hosts who had pushed themselves clear 0-12 to 0-6.
Even when Renard pulled back points by Mark Sugrue (f) and Eoghan McCrohan they looked like mere consolations but the hosts were about to collapse in a dramatic fashion.
It was a busy day for Killian Young the Renard man scored a point to level matters at 0-4 each but picked up a Black Card in the second half
Four added minutes were announced and Renard had the momentum but a goal was still needed. Mark Sugure won his own free and tapped it over. He won the next ball too but this he stuck in the roof of the home sides net and Sean O’Connor landed a monster of a free as Renard drove on for a place in the semi final.
Scorers:
Renard: Mark Sugrue 1-7 (0-7f), Eoghan McCrohan 0-1, Killian Young 0-1, Kevin Curran 0-1, Sean O’Connor 0-1

You would think it's looking like another Mary's dromid final but both Valentia and renard seem to be confident that they can get a result. Sunday's a monsoon apparently, won't be easy for the players, would have made more sense to bring it forward to saturday but sure its hardly a surprise that they didn't

Of course with the forecast for Sunday the logical call would have been to play the games on the Saturday, but nothing it seems is done right by the powers that be. They will be looking for a st Stephen's day final again and hang the players

Semis cancelled today on account of the weather. If only there was some way that we could predict the weather and make changes accordingly... Sk board will get their christmas final now, bumper crowd and 2 fingers to the players

The dog in the street knew the forecast for the day was bad so why did the ccc not change the games to Saturday. Money comes before the players as always. Well done

Sunday the 29th for the final would be a fairer date for the players in the final.

The board and the ccc have been informed that Foilmore pitch will be unplayable for the semi final as scheduled therefore the fixtures will go ahead in Con Keating park as follows:
12 noon Piarsaigh na Dromoda v Renard
1.45pm St Mary’s v Valentia
Extra time in both games in the event of a draw

I would have thought the first game would be closer and should have 'star' billing.

I would have thought the first game would be closer and should have 'star' billing. Mary's game was due to be the curtain raiser on the original date last Sunday. South Kerry Board announced that Renard and Dromid have people involved in Scór next Sunday afternoon so the clubs requested the earlier throw in, while Valentia had a couple of lads flying in on morning of the game so they asked for later time.

St. Mary's 2-6 Valentia 1-8 in a surprisingly close game (ht 2-4 to 1-5).
Dromid Pearses beat Renard in the other semi-final on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-8 (ht 1-3 to 0-5).
Final set for Portmagee next Sunday 22 Dec at 2pm, St. Mary's v Dromid Pearses.

I see Paul O donoghue played for the marys today, He was also playing in australia a few weeks ago. Is that allowed? I didnt know you could play in 2 different countries like that. As regards the final, back to portmagee. No surprise really, They could hardly give the town home venue again. Sure where else could they play it???

Forgot to say, great performance by Valentia today, heart determination and pride against an all conquering Marys side. Could have easily taken the spoils but the experience won through. First game was tit for tat, Dromid made better use of the ball, especially in the second half. The older Farley lad went off injured through (torn hamstring) the second half and I think Dromids chances in the final went with him, cant see them stopping the 6 in a row really. The Marys have too many aces up their sleeve and always seem to peak on final day. They could afford to leave the likes of Aidan Walsh on the bench today, a guy that has played for Kerry and would walk onto any team in the county. Will be an interesting final nonetheless

Normally finals are played in a neutral venue are they not?? Waterville don't have a pitch, Valentia don't have the facilities to hold the crowd, filemore unplayable 2 weeks ago. Where would you play it?

Maybe a bit off point but TCB Chairman revealed at the AGM that they were going to look at why the standard in NK has apparently fallen. It is only browsing this thread that I learn that Waterville don't even have a pitch and while I do recall Pat Spillane's airing of clubs having to combine, us from NK always feel that SK has it all and which is probably because we think yew have more county players than us. We also have the idea that south of Tralee is all tourist country and which might not be entirely the case and I'd be personally aware of how hard SW was hit with emigration down the years.
I think the entire county should be looked at in any study and to get the full picture and better value for money spent on such a study, e.g. would West Kerry be similar to SK? Looking at Google maps there are lots on unfamiliar placenames in the middle of the Ring of Kerry and I don't suppose there would be much arable land? NK is about one sixth of the county by area I think and hurling would be the dominant game West of a line from Ballyduff to Finuge to Tralee. Nationally there is a strong correlation between good/arable land and where hurling in played and which has to do with history. If KIlgarvan the only hurling club south of Tralee?
Out of interest, how strong is soccer in places like Cahersiveen, Glenbeigh, Killorglin, Kenmare, Dingle, etc. What rugby clubs are there south of Tralee - Listowel is the only one in NK though funnily enough I never heard anyone say that it took from Gaelic.

St Mary's 1.6 Dromid 0.9
A titanic battle in no way helped by the soft conditions back in portmagee. Dromid playing with the aid of the wind started well and had a 5.0 lead after 15 or so minutes. Mary's gradually got back into the game and cut the deficit to 2 points at ht. An early goal for the marys put them ahead and they held a 2 point lead going into injury time. Dromid reduced the lead to 1 and with the last kick of the game, niall o shea had a free some 45 yards into a swirling wind, some cynical play by the Mary's resulted in the free being brought forward twice and niall tapped it over to draw it. There were some minor scuffles going off the pitch, nobody covered themselves in glory tbh but it was more handbags than anything else.
Brendan griffin reffed it as good as could be expected I guess, there was needle all over the pitch from start to finish and at a guess id say some 10 or 12 yellows were handed out. Some of the players can count themselves lucky to have stayed on, in particular Dennis daly who made about 7 or 8 fouls including 1 at the end that saw a dromid player leave with what looked like a broken nose. It was tough tight and tense, conditions made it near impossible for good football to be played. Replay is shoved away out to January sometime, the whole thing should be done and dusted ages ago and it doesn't reflect well on the sk board. Fair play to skellig rangers for having everything in order on the day.
On a sidenote, all the talk on the sideline was about Paul o donoghue, by all accounts he played championship football in Australia and even won player of the year for his club. Supposedly he wasn't to play yesterday as he is ineligible but nonetheless started on the 40 and had a fine game
