looking back at the O Brien goal (ive watching it about 70 times at this stage ) as Sherwood is kicking the ball into Geaney, Stephan is inside the Kerry 65, having just won the ball on the 21. incredible goal.

I’d agree we didn’t get everything right Surely we should have brought our players into a huddle instead of lining out on the field and waiting for second half They huddle could fine tune tactics or do some warm up while waiting But please don’t race into the field many minutes before the opposition again

There is a running order for the day, it's not a random decision when you return to the pitch. Tyrone as usual pushed the boundaries and employed delaying tactics. Their entry on to the pitch at the start of the match was also delayed and they were all bunched together in the tunnel emerging en masse.

Didn't work out too well for them anyway! We blitzed them for next half an hour 1-10 to 0-4 if we had turned up for first half we would have won it easily enough.
We have given two decent 70 minute performances this year vs Donegal and mayo and yet are in the final. Pk hasn't made too many mistakes he has improved us everywhere really making b8g calls. Bringing in Ryan in goals, has improved the young fellas and older lads like enright,o brien, geaney and Lyne but his greatest move has been the rehabilitation of Walsh and especially sherwood. Sherwood has had huge Impacts off the bench vs Donegal and now Tyrone he was the difference Sunday I think he just provided that forward drive we badly needed pace power and no little skill he was my motm.

We were on the pitch at least a minute before the ref emerged from the Cusack Stand side. We should at least waited until he was out and this should have been relayed to the Kerry dressing room by somebody on the backroom team. A lesson to be learned IMO

A short few weeks ago we had Sherwood bashing, that was put to bed fairly fast. Now it’s Jack Barry’s turn. He was one of our best performers in the league final. We have a massive task ahead on Sept 1st, time to get behind all our players. It's not Jack Barry bashing - it's asking why should he start against Spillane. Its clear that noone is basing it on recent form so what is it? By stating that Barry, who hasnt played recently, should start ahead of Spillane - is this not an implied bashing of Spillane. Go write a like seeking, no analysis post about that

If we were focussed and had said what we needed to say to each other then I see no problem getting out there - dont complicate it with mind games. different if it was lashing rain. I think the evidence is the team were ready to go.
Tyrone were afraid to play football at the end of the first half, playing the ball around waiting for half time and then they tried playing mind games by delaying coming on the field for the second hald. Just showed they were not tuned in to the game itself.

the way they made the sub with Foley pretending not to realise he was going off was smart. What are you getting at with that one? Can't figure it out

the way they made the sub with Foley pretending not to realise he was going off was smart. What are you getting at with that one? Can't figure it out Tommy replaced Jason Foley. Corner forward for corner back essentially. It meant a big re-jig with Begley going centre back on ?, Crowley switching onto Donnelly and Morley switching on McShane. To make sure this was done as seamlessly as possible, instead of sprinting straight for the sideline, Jason Foley stayed on his man at the back until all the positional changes were made. The game couldnt re-start until he left the field of play.

Of course it was planned...if a defender is being substituted he should not leave his man until the new man assigned to mark him is right there beside him, especially if the sub coming on is not a direct replacement, as we saw on Sunday.
These are the small things that are being taken care of properly. Imagine the uproar here if Tommy goes in corner forward and Jason just trundles off wondering who is picking up McShane. Quick ball into the unmarked McShane, goal for Tyrone, and the outcome very much in doubt.
Players must use the head at all times, even if being taken off. Glad to see Jason got good instruction (which might have been years ago) on how to behave in these situations.
I think the phrase we might be looking for is "playing and performing with intelligence".

Making the same argument then Jameso should start the next day To say Spillane has done well based on his last two performances is stretching it. If Spillane starts it is due to Barry’s lack of game time this summer.

Unfortunately, most coaches are now instructing players on the ‘hand off’ technique. The two handed push to the chest is a variation of the same tactic that referees are not blowing for. Dublin players have another very simple and effective ‘3rd man crossing’ type of obstruction that prevents an opponent from making a tackle on the hand passed ball receiver. Referees do not seem to be picking up on it as a foul but it buys the ball receiver that bit of time and space before an effective challenge can be made. Either we get wise to it or we will be subjected to it too. Its not always easy to spot but it's hugely effective.
At this stage - James is on track to be ready for the final. That could change, unfortunately. Gavin Crowley used this one to good effect in the first half v Mayo. When SOB backpedalled to claim a Mayo kickout on the terrace side, Crowley stood between him and his challenger, only for a second but enough for O'Brien to get away and set up a score.

Making the same argument then Jameso should start the next day To say Spillane has done well based on his last two performances is stretching it. If Spillane starts it is due to Barry’s lack of game time this summer. Great debate going on here about two midfielders neither one up to par at this level being totally frank . That’s based on all know form this year . That two man debate becomes a moot point when we have a third man , Jack Sherwood who has produced more good ball and more ball that led to scores in two games that the combined efforts of the above mentioned two all year long . No disrespect to either Barry or Spillane I think they can both contribute in some defensive role either early or late take your pick. But if you want Go ahead good ball into the forwards you have to go with Sherwood who has been misplaced as a defender in the past . He seems to understand where to be and where the ball needs to go he ll move it forward rather than lateral if at all possible and yes most important he will now draw and occupy a defender creating even more space up front why ? Because he is an attacking threat He can create a score or score himself neither of the other two have given us anything really going forward and it has hurt us . Adrian May have let the game pass him by a bit in last two games but he s a workhorse and he seems to give it everything Jack Barry has been given so much time but has underperformed totally if he was injured that one thing but then why was he playing . He seems to have the ability but is not imposing himself on the game like he’ should be . If you don’t like any of those three midfield choices how about TOS He can negate Fintan ( except will need help on Dublin kick outs) and he can carry and deliver good ball to our forwards .

Tom O’Sullivan presumably. I don’t know on what basis we’d put him midfield he has never played there afaik and it would leave a gaping hole at the back where he is a huge player for us now. Sherwood has been immense in recent substitute appearances in fairness. He certainly wouldn’t be a bad shout for the final. Starting a game is a different story though. Peter Keane and his selectors will have had a good look at him by now and if he is not starting there is a reason I can assure you

Not much more to be said on this really is there

Personally I'd leave Sherwood to come on in the second half. We'll need impact subs and he's certainly been one in the last few games. Not much of a difference between Barry and Spillane IMO.

Tom o Sullivan would be a big loss to the defense for sure if moved on to Fintan there’s a price to pay for everything he’s a lot smaller and lighter than Peter Harte also and didn’t do too bad on him. Tom is a class player and has the X factor you could play him absolutely any where and Hed do well I d like to keep his attacking option and play like Paddy Durkan and that is to show all your defensive man marking skills but don’t take yourself out of the game in doing so . . Durkan scored three points while shutting out Mc Caffery Durkan should have scored 7 or 8 . Can you imagine James Horgan telling Durkan to mark your man but don’t ever get involved in any attack no matter what .! We all agree that you have to go at and attack Dublin to put them on the back foot and beat them if that’s the case you have to let Tom defend but attack when it’s on ,we need both sides of Toms Game imo Also I think the best time to score on Dublin is the first 20 min they seem to play conservative the first half and then cut loose Problem Mayo played conservative too in the first half and played without a full forward and no ball going in either Best time to beat them is early then try keep them under pressure while they try figure it out . Dublin seems to always give teams a way back but only if the opposition can take their chances Tyrone’s misses last year was costly Mayo last week had many chances but dropped short and kicked wise Kerry need to keep shooting at 80 % or higher then I think they will always have a chance .
