Mercy Mounthawk had a 3-10 to 3-7 win over Tralee CBS on Friday in the first round of the O'Sullivan Cup. The Green looked the better side for three quarters of the game, but Mounthawk were superb in the last quarter. Both sides played very good football.

Holy Jaysus. Are Flannans that good or are Criost Rí brutal. You would have to feel sorry for any lads on the receiving end of that scoreline

I spoke to St. Flannans before the Sem game. They told me that Criost Ri arrived late for the game with an incredibly young team - Flannans ran their bench early on and wanted to play just 15 minutes of the second half, but that Criost Ri wanted to play the full hour and give all their players a run. Maybe looking to the future but certainly should not have been playing in the grade this year. Flannans were a good side - very good midfield and centre forward and sharp corner forwards. A strong and swirling wind in the second half meant that they scored no point in the second half, but they got in for four goals - that's with the excellent Sem keeper making some great saves along the way. The Sem will not be happy with their defending. Entertaining and very sporting game - Flannans ability to get in for goals always kept the game alive.

They have a lot of very good players like Killian Falvey, Dylan Geaney, Cathal O'Beaglaoich, Conor Flannery and I think Colm Moriarty is still there as well.

The u15 schools Munster final was the curtain raiser to the county final and was a very entertaining game. The Green deservedly won on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-8 although the Sem did have 2 penalties saved. Best for the Green in my opinion were no.6 Colm Browne, no.8 Togor Silong, no.11 Jeremiah Brosnan, no.1 Sean Collins, no.3 Jake Foley and no.15 Darragh Cunnane. I thought the outstanding players for the Sem were no.6 Jack Fogarty, no.1 Shay O'Meara, no.12 Darragh O'Connell and no.13 Alex Hennigan.

Draw for the quarter-finals St. Brendans Killarney V St. Flannans Ennis Bandon v The Green Tralee Rathmore v Ballincollig Rochestown v Clonakilty Games provisionally fixed for 15th January Expect the Sem to get through Flannans as despite winning the Frewen Cup 2 years ago, Flannans don't enforce TY so have lost a lot of these players. Bandon-The Green is tie of the round for me. Bandon have been very impressive and are out of the hurling so are all out for the football. A 50-50 tie. Rathmore cruised through their group but it was one of the weaker groups. Ballincollig are not to underestimated and have a few minor All-Ireland winners from this year. I remember a few years ago when Rathmore cruised through their group with 3 wins and were caught at the 1/4 final stage. I don't think it will happen again, Rathmore to win in a tight battle. Rochestown are the biggest danger to the Kerry schools for me. I fancy them to get past Clonakilty comfortably.

I fancy them to get past Clonakilty comfortably. The one big cloud hanging over Rochestown's success will be the situation with Douglas Minors and the proposed 12 week ban. "The 17 Douglas minor footballers, five team mentors, two underage club officials, and the aforementioned senior section chairman and secretary, who have all been hit with varying suspensions, will go before the Cork GAA hearings committee on Thursday. If the hearings committee upholds the proposed sanctions, which includes each of the 17 players being suspended from all GAA activity for a period of 12 weeks, Douglas will then bring their case before the appeals committee." www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/sport/gaa/douglas-chair-and-secretary-to-contest-bans-967980.html
