Was BJK not allowed back on for extra time? I thought red cards were reset for extra time? who else played well? Sounds like yet another case of an instigator not being punished He had his arm in a sling in the dugout at that stage. Narries had 15 for ET alright. Yer man deserved the box, not a nice thing to try on, but BJ is evperienced enough to know better. He was having a good game too. KOR a point ahead with normal plus injury time almost up but gave away the ball carelessly to set up the equaliser when all they had to do was hold and kill it. In truth, they just didn't score enough after the early blitz (3-1 after 12 mins) and EK just about deserved it. Cracking evening's entertainment. What did the EK guy do to BJK? Like in fairness you can see where I am coming from that if he put his arm in a sling then it shows that the instigator is not being punished. The county as a whole would be up in arms if someone from KOR had done the above to David Clifford. Was there any sanction for said EK scumbag?

No. Not allowed back on. He was in a sling anyway. It was a dirty act by the East Kerry fella. BJK had just been strapped up and when he came on yer man came straight up and hit him a belt into the same shoulder/arm. He got away without a card and stayed on the ground for about a minute.
Sherwood was on a bit of ball driving forward. Paudie Clifford is a bit of a loose cannon. I think it was Liam Kearney was good in the middle for EK.
I dont get to see many club games so I dont know too many of the non county players. I dont recall Gavin O Brien standing out. Cormac Coffey looked lively enough.
EK keeper made some saves.
In the first game the Brendan's keeper kicked 3 long range frees and 45s. He is a sweet striker of a dead ball. Kicked one over from nearly 50 meters. David O Callaghan is still going strong. Shannon Rangers were particularly poor. Jason Foley went off at half time. He was injured in first half executing a brilliant block. Andrew Barry did well. Diarmaid O Connor kicked some nice scores Jack Barry stroked a ball into the bottom corner of the net from about 13 metres out.

I presume with a straight red he couldn't come back on anyway. Presume he will still get a ban for that card.

I just don’t understand how you could have seen that and none of the umpires/linesmen could have seen it. As I said if the same had happened to Clifford then the county would be up in arms- same old sh*t where some no mark goon is sent on to take out a far superior player and the officials aren’t up to the job of defending players. The thing to always bear in mind is that the only reason we have officials is to defend players

I thought BJ was being fouled a lot by his opponent - BJ shipped a very heavy challenge which saw him leave the pitch for treatment - on his return he was involved with his marker and got a straight red - KOR hung in there with great defending from Ryan Carroll, Karl Mullins & Ross O’Callaghan - Ross did better than most guys who will mark David Clifford & were still a point to the good into injury time - however they lost the ball leading to the equalizer. The first period of extra time saw KOR denied twice by the EK keeper when he saved well from Conor Hayes & Tommy Walsh; level again at the break, KOR took the game to EK but despite monopolizing possession they failed to score , kicking two wides. East Kerry countered & David Clifford pointed from s free to edge East ahead and they found the insurance point shortly after. KOR will rue the sending off & the misses in extra time.

Seanie McMahon of Clare broke his collerbone during the 90s. A big game was coming up and McMahon wasnt fully recovered from injury. Loughnane announced that he would play even though the collerbone wasnt right. They strapped his good shoulder in full view of the opposition during the warm up. The shoulder with the strapping was well tested when the game started.

I was looking straight at BJK when he ran back on. I dont know how the red card was actually given because the ref was miles away keeping up with play as was the linesman. They were not looking at the incident.
The KOR no 3 had a hold of Clifford's arm for most of the game. Johnny Cooper would go mental if he was watching it.
I thought EK were the better team when in possession. Did very well to come back from conceding so many goals in first half.
KOR supporters weren't too happy with ref especially in first half.

Thought con Barrett was absolutely outstanding for strand road not the most attractive footballer but his graft and endeavor was incredible tonight and he was every where, bjk was playing very well u til his stupid red card, mush was brilliant in extra time but quiet otherwise, Moran and walsh had their moments. Ek were far more clinical and for that just deserved the win, Clifford, Liam Kearney and mike foley were very good but they have a few lads who could potentially let their side down in future with the way they conduct themselves on the pitch

You seem to be the only person on here who thinks rahillys got everything and everyone is commenting that BJK was being black guarded by some classless goon. Be fun to see your comments when/if EK play crokes and crokes do their rotational yellow cards trick on David or paudie Clifford Also: dont be coming on the forum? You have 2 posts, an inability to punctuate and an idiotically biased opinion that seems contrary to all others who attended the game - good luck

I agree with pintpleasejohn, I thought Con Barrett was absolutely superb from start to finish, my man of the match. That was the best game I have seen all year. In fact, that was up there with the best games I have ever seen in my life. I thought the referee and his officials handled a roller-coaster game superbly.
If a player is red-carded in normal time, his team can start extra-time with fifteen men (as technically it is a new game) but that player cannot come back on (again, technically he is suspended). Barry John could be replaced, but not restored. It's a rule I have never agreed with; I believe that extra-time is simply a continuation of the same game. Weirdly, yellow cards do carry over. I can't recall the game but I do remember a Kerry club game where a team who had a red carded player were restored to fifteen for extra-time, while the other team had a player receive a second yellow card and be dismissed straight after throw-in in extra-time. A complete reversal. Rathmore were the team hard done by and brought a motion to the following convention to change the rule; I think it couldn't be heard because it is a national rule.

The yellow card anomaly was amended in 2014 to address that issue - yellow cards issued in normal time DO NOT now carry over to extra time.

BJK did two stupid things. One was coming back on when he was clearly injured. The 2nd was punching the back after he got a shoulder.
What he should have done was caught the back by the collar of the jersey and ripped the jersey down the middle like had been done to both corner backs in the first half.
Kerins O Rahillys only scored 5 points from the 11th minute to the end of normal time and that's essentially why they lost. Having said that, the bit of inexperience giving the ball away cheaply in injury time of normal time was why East Kerry equalised.
The ref set the tone early on by adjudging anytime there was a bit of contact he would either give a free or put his hand up to signal advantage. I'm sure if he looked at the video of the game he would ref it differently next time.

East Kerry 0-20 Kerins O'Rahillys 3-9 AET 0-15 3-6 FT
This was a humdinger. As an OAP, I invested E8 and my outlay was returned with compound interest. It did not look as if matters would transpire in this manner after about the first ten minutes when it seemed that it was raining Strand Road goals as they played into the Mithchell's end. Tommy Walsh, who was winning everything against Jack Sherwood at that stage, set up BJK for one , Jack Savage stroked in another and Karl Mullins, who had a fine game before being cramped off, motored up from CHB to crack home a third. No way back surely for East Kerry. There was and remarkably that happened without them scoring a goal.
A goal or two nearly did come for them in that opening half. Young David scored one but was whistled back without any protest and he later cut menacingly in acutely from the left but had his shot smothered by Gary Kissane. One worried for them after that but they kept plugging away and had the deficit reduced to two points by half time. Paudie Clifford was a huge threat in that half , constantly and tirelessly powering through even though his efforts did not always get the rewards they deserved.
Early in the second half an incident took place which in my view had a crucial impact on the game. BJK went off with what looked like a serious shoulder injury. He was patched up and resumed play at about the same time as a penalty was awarded to East Kerry at the Mitchell's end which meant the referee was up in that area. Now, I did not see what happened as BJK came back on with my gaze fixed on the penalty incident. A man next to me, a neutral, proclaimed that he saw the incident- as BJK came back on an East Kerry player lunged at his injured shoulder and BJK struck out resulting in the East Kerry man going down prostrate where he lay until BJK got his red and then naturally enough a miraculous recovery was enacted. If this version is true then the East Kerry man's actions were despicable but I suppose more common than we like to believe. Either way BJK was a huge loss. Up to that he was very lively as he usually is and would surely have returned a couple of points as he usually does. Fate did go the way of Strand Road after that incident because Paudie Clifford had his penalty saved by Gary Kissane.
Down to fourteen men , one expected the wheel of fortune to swing away from Strand Road but heroic displays from some of their players ensured that this contest was going to be fierce to the end and indeed even with that numerical disadvantage it appeared that they would still stagger through. Not least of those heroic figures was the mighty David Moran. He was the dominant midfielder , the dominant player overall, and for a man of his size he defied the laws of physics with the number of breaks he collected and his equalising point at the end of the first part of extra time when he thundered through and bisected the uprights was possibly the most memorable score of the match, and there were many. He was well supported by the likes of Ryan Carroll, Karl Mullins, John Ferguson, a smart CHF, Con Barrett, Jack Savage, Tommy Walsh and Gavin O'Brien who looked hugely impressive at times.
Unfortunately for Strand Road , apart from the discrepancy in playing numbers , they were opposed by a team who also contained top of the range , defiant men of war. Jack Sherwood, after a shaky start against Tommy Walsh, came more and more into the game and repeatedly drove forward penetratively , as is his wont. Those two boys had a fine duel. Dan O'Donoghue was a very capable wing back and at midfield, Liam Kearney, in spite of the exploits of David Moran , was a solid figure. I like the cut of that fellow. His partner , Shane Cronin, was no slouch either. Up front impressive players were Ronan Buckley , Paudie Clifford, started off well, faded for a while but finished very strongly, Dara Roche , at times , sub Mike Foley came on and scored three or four points. Then of course there was wonder boy. He kicked four from frees and four from play. A couple of those from play were from another world. Crucially he got the last two scores of this epic. One from a free to give his team the lead and then the clincher shortly afterwards from play which was kicked from outer space. I felt the referee could have been a little more generous to him in that there were a couple of occasions when clear fouls were ignored.
When they wake up this morning , Kerins O'Rahillys will be wondering how they left this one after them after such a blistering opening. Indeed , any fair minded neutral would have to feel a tinge of sympathy for them but there is one cold , harsh statistic which might explain their loss. East Kerry got twenty scores while Strand Road managed just twelve. Perhaps that is the clue.
P.S. Whoever designed the colour scheme for the St. Brendan's jeerseys should be brought up before a commission for crimes against humanity. Those jerseys are an assault on the eyes and of course, needless to say, the numbers are totally illegible.

It's funny, there is a general consensus out there that Kerry need to unearth a few more backs who will do like their Dublin and Mayo counterparts and engage in some dark arts and live as close to the edge as possible.
Barry John got a shoulder last night in what would only be described as a 'test it out' moment like Mickmack described with Seanie McMahon. David Clifford and James O Donoghue have received the same from opponents in Kerry and beyond given their injury history.
There is only one man to blame for Barry John getting sent off last night and it's not the East Kerry back. Also some of the language used to describe the lad on this forum is not on and not becoming of this forum.

Scummy behaviour should always be called out as such. A few years ago one of the McGees from Donegal tried to break Alan Fitzgerald’s finger in a league game and he got a red card- I presume you thought that was fine too and that any criticism McGee got on here was not becoming of the forum?

You didn’t see the bjk incident though so how can you compare it to another one I've had enough eye witness accounts to go on and the principle is the same as the above example - the inability to protect the most talented forwards in the game is the biggest onfield issue in the GAA. I've consistently argued this, even defending Connolly for the disgraceful treatment that he used to get from the Mayo backs. If you want forwards to be fair game for off the ball crap from defenders then fine but I dont and people cant be selective about this. If you see no issue with what happened to BJK then you should see no isse with the Alan Fitzgerald issue or Cooper hanging out of Clifford or Philly gouging Donaghy.

Before judging anything I would like to see the incident rather than relying on others.
If it is similar to the McGee one, I would happily condemn it

I can happily live without knowing what happened and therefore not having a strong view

That's not acceptable in sport or any other walk of life no matter how often it might happen or to whom. You can't say BJK is solely to blame here and no-one else. Foolish to react in plain sight alright. And before anyone asks, I was there, as a complete neutral, and I saw the whole incident.

What is the penalty for shouldering someone off the ball. It certainly isn't the same penalty as for punching someone in the guts. Proving intent is a different matter altogether.
It's very unsporting, like when Denis Badtick tried to stamp on Donaghys foot when he was just back after he broke it up in Longford in the qualifiers.
On another note, there were quite a few very high, dangerous tackles around the neck. Yellows only. Was there not a rule about head high tackles brought in.
I am told that the match is on Twitter by some fella called Buffy Egan but the red card isn't featured.

Refs seem to interpret shouldering off the ball differently - Seamus O’Shea was black carded a few years ago in an All Ireland semi final for this offense yet some refs will issue a yellow deeming it to be rough play - think a yellow covers it. The head high tackle is another matter & again refs have different takes on it - from the stand side last night, I thought Conor Hayes was tackled head high with ref issuing a yellow - I was not close enough to get a good view so again maybe a yellow. Buff has a few snippets on Twitter, scores mainly.

There must have been no hurling match on anywhere if buff went to watch football.
