Paudie and David Clifford are both suspended for the first game of this year's competition, having been sent off in their last game in last year's championship (East Kerry's defeat to Dingle).

David Shaw and Tony Brosnan gave an exhibition. Both two footed. Tony kicked 1-11. Top scorer in Championship last year and year before. Peter Keane tells him go off to America for the summer not part of his plans.

Great contest in ASP between KOR & Kenmare - Kenmare led at the break 1-10 to 1-08 having played with the breeze; on the restart Cormac Coffey raced through the Kenmare defence to rocket the ball into the net - KOR pushed on & lead by 3 points with 10 mins left - Kenmare continued to press & with Seán O’Shea unerring from frees reduced the lead & were then awarded a penalty - Gary Kissane saved a goal bound shot but was penalized by the ref but Gary saved well from Paul O’Connors shot - Kenmare rallied and lead by 2 going into the final minutes but two points from frees by Jack Savage leveled matters& his brother Gearóid had the final say at the death.
Seán O’Shea was excellent, Stephen O’Brien well marshalled by Cormac Coffey ( my man of the match) & Paul O’Connor was a real handful.
Jack Savage played well for Strand Rd, Tommy Walsh won everything that came his way with David Moran having a quiet outing.

Keane's closed panel approach this year was a bit of a hindrance in the end as we really needed another scoring forward like a BJK or even Brosnan to come in once it was clear that JOD was carrying injuries

I don’t see how it made a difference. Killian Spillane was that guy this year.

I don’t see how it made a difference. Killian Spillane was that guy this year. I've said previously, in my opinion obviously, that we needed something else coming off the bench. I thought the first day out that we could have done with more of a scoring threat coming on than Lyne or Moynihan but this isnt the thread for that debate.

Would imagine both Shaw and Brosnan will be in the kerry panel next year and will see league action!. Barring crokes don’t end up in the club final like last year

Isn’t the all Ireland club on in January this year or did I just make that up in my head?

Seriously impressive again from Crokes. It feels like they are the team to beat and it will require something unusual to do so.

In 2020, the All-Ireland senior club hurling and football semi-finals will take place on the weekend of January 4/5, with the final coming two weeks later on Sunday January 19.
Munster senior club football final set for Dec 1, with Kerry's representative getting a bye to the semi-final on November 17 against the winner of Cork/Limerick in Cork or Limerick.

Charged a respectable €8 to see Stacks play Dingle last night but it cost €13 to get into ASP today - double header was the reason I was informed when I asked. So not only did 4 clubs lose home advantage to play double headers but the County board felt justified in picking the fans pockets whether they wanted to watch two games or not. No wonder the attendance was so low in Tralee.

Kerins O'Rahillys 2-15 1-7 HT 1-8 1-10
This was a hugely exiting game and the result was uncertain right up to the last ditch Strand Road winning point. I went to this match expecting a fairly handy Strand Road win but it was obvious from early on that Kenmare didn't make the long journey to do some local shopping. They played cleverly and expansively from the word go and at stages looked to me as the more likely to prevail as the game advanced . Indeed, they appeared to have the more dangerous offensive system and when they broke away they did with speed and purpose.
There were times when it looked as if they were going to be too slick and pacy for their opponents but in fairness to O'Rahillys they refused to wilt and just about deserved their victory which they achieved with their midfielders always played second violin to Kevin O'Sullivan and David Hallissey. Kevin O'Sullivan was probably the most consistent midfielder on view in an area where Davin Moran was largely anonymous. Significantly , David Hallissey got 1-1 for Kenmare.
In the first half Stephen O'Brien looked very dangerous , scoring 0-3 but eventually was overpowered by Cormac Coffey who has unbelievable speed. Sean O'Shea seemed to have no fixed position, at times quiet but more often displaying that undeniable class which saw him reap six from frees and two from play. Tommy Walsh won every ball that went his way in that half, indeed it was no different in the second half. Kenmare's defence could never cope with him, also wandering out with a lot of success. Overall, he was probably the most influential player on the field. He scored two from play and indeed one felt Strand Road could have got more out of him if the they placed some acolyte in his vicinity to gobble up his crumbs. Jack Savage played some neat football, getting five or six from frees and one from play. It was he who also set woo up John Ferguson for a goal in that opening half, a man who was surprisingly replaced in the second half.
After trailing by two at the break, Strand Road quickly reversed that deficit courtesy of a wonderful goal from the flying Cormac Coffey. The game really took off then with some fine football from both sides intermingled with some feisty exchanges. It looked maybe that Kerins O'Rahillys were beginning to get the upper hand but the awarding of a Kenmare penalty appeared as if it might unhinge Strand Road, such was the swaying fortunes of the game. The penalty resulted from a save by Garry Kissane who was then penalised , presumably for over holding. There was a certain degree of justice in the save he then made from Paul O'Connor because I felt there was a pick up in the build up to the penalty.
BJK came on a t half time and was his usual busy self. He kicked over a couple but also had a few careless wides. At the other end Paul O'Connor, in spite of the penalty miss, was a forever threat and kicked two from play. As the play swung from end to end as the clock wound down most people were resigned to extra time but Gearoid Savage, appropriately set up by Tommy Walsh, flashed over the winner. One felt sorry for gallant Kenmare but if somebody had done the same at the other end one would have felt sorry for Kerins O'Rahillys. It was that close.
Gavin O'Brien flitted into the game only in spasms. I, and I am sure Strand Road, were expecting more from him.

Glad to see that Shaw played well. He will get a lot of game time next year. I thought in the replay that some Kerry forwards seemed to be hesitant to shoot if they were not near the D. There were points there for the taking. David has no hesitation and is almost always accurate shooting from 40 to 50 metres. That would give us 5 scoring forwards.

I spent my day at Fitzgerald Stadium. Two enjoyable games to be fair. However, I came away asking myself does anyone know how to defend anymore around these parts? The second game had a total of 5 goals and 38 points. This is enjoyable to the spectator but there wasn’t one decent defender on view – not one. I can’t understand what’s going on with these high profile coaches. I’m off to the pub now, sure to get it all sorted there.

Will defo be pushing the county panel in the next 18 months

Tony Brosnan gave an exhibition in point scoring today - both legs unerring. Could not believe Rathmore played such an open game with Crokes - almost thought they would outscore Crokes. Crokes still in rude health wohld take brave man to bet against them

I think Cormac is worth a try - searing pace, decision making not always the best but his drive & determination could be an asset; BJ only played second half, not fully fit, kicked a couple of points, rushed some other shots; Jack played well but probably lacks that yard of pace required for inter county, Mush made a few good runs, was fouled a lot, looked a bit short of match practice.
