Cork footballers caught training in Youghal beach. Ronan McCarthy said it was ‘team building’. Would make a bit of a farce of these rules against training til February if nothing happens. Apparently guards landing in at Down training during the week too

The three most recent retirees from the senior panel left with 1 All Ireland medal each, a somewhat unusual tally for a Kerry footballer. Niall Flynn's excellent 2009 book, 36 and Counting, does not list the individual medal totals, maybe Terrace Talk website does. It would be interesting to see that.
Some of the 2014 panel are still playing so may (hopefully) win another medal. David Moran and Tommy W have medals from 2009.
Many of 2014 panel (A O'M, Declan, Kieran Donaghy, Killian Young, Marc O'Se, Bryan Sheehan etc) also had medals from earlier years so that wouldn't have been their sole success.

The IC retirement of Keith Higgins can't go unmentioned here. What a servant to Mayo and to football! His duel with JOD in 2014 will live long in the memory.
Must be gut-wrenching to have appeared in seven AI finals without a win. Four All-Stars may be of some consolation though.
Magnificent player, best of luck to him.

It might be churlish to point this out but in his signature performance his marker scored 2-6 (JOD was on fire of course in 2014).
Assuming he marked Gooch from 2005, he seems to have done quite well on him going by the raw tallies on Terrace Talk.

I agree with your assessment of Keith . Smashing player. Attained his status on the strength of his skill and not skullduggery. Am I correct in saying that JO’D’s two goals in 2014 were from penalties? By all accounts he was an accomplished hurler as well. When players like him and Andy Moran retire without a medal I feel the accumulation of pockets of medals by other players becomes meaningless. Of course that is the nature of team sports.

Of course that is the nature of team sports. They were, although he did win both of them himself. Normally when a forward puts up that sort of a tally, you'd say his man was roasted; not on this occasion however. Higgins had a superb game, making numerous dispossessions and blockdowns. You felt another defender could have given up 3-12 that night - JOD was on fire, as he had been all year.

Whither the provincial medal, league medal, All-Star award and POTY? No big one but these Mayo players have accolades.

Higgins the best and most consistent player for Mayo in the last 15 years, 4 all stars says it all He often made time to play hurling for Mayo too as you say , just how he squared that one off with the football manager I am not so sure how he managed that! Maybe a sign of the man, he was just his own man and if he wanted to play the odd game of hurling, he was going doing it, who should stop him in what are amateur games I expect he may be seen in the Mayo colours again , hurling though

When I suggested that JO’D’s two goals were from penalties it certainly wasn’t to downplay his marvelous contribution that day/year but rather to point out that Keith wasn’t directly responsible for both penalties, perhaps one? Can’t remember clearly. In any case , as Southward said, we witnessed two masters at work that day. James’s tally does not tell the full story. Even contest I felt.
Congratulations to Captain Paul. We can be guaranteed one hundred percent effort from that man, captaincy or no captaincy.
If he remains healthy long enough, it would be no surprise to see David’s turn come around again.

Just asking a general view here, but with the Intermediate and premier junior championships failing to be completed last season as a result of covid and the return of inter-county football. Do you think these championships will be completed prior to this seasons championship or will the fixtures go incomplete and just start with a fresh championship? ( The Premier Junior has the final to play and the Intermediate is at the semi-final stages i believe)

This article below gives some idea of what actually goes on behind those closed doors an I wonder how we compare here? Though late to the table with our Centre of Excellence I think we got there slightly ahead of Donegal but are we now kicking on with the soft-infrastructure of the pipeline? Maybe we need a management academy at ITT/MTU or maybe due to scale would this be a national shared resource? My Donegal pals are linking up globally big time as they tell us. Donegal appoint former Footballer of the Year Karl Lacey as Head of Academy Development

Closed door policy now with the Forum? What's going down in the county?
Anyone understand the proposed championship restructuring?

Garry Brennan has retired . One of the best of his era. Starred year after year with little tangible reward . Obviously persevered because he loved his hobby. In an age when some players constantly moan about the sacrifices they make it is refreshing to observe Garry who clearly never forgot why he started to play football.
If sacrifices are too great, set your goals at a more modest level or choose another pastime.
Enjoy retirement Garry

I see Limerick hurlers got team of the year. Dubs will be going mental. Beaten by the ladies hockey team and the Showjumpers in previous years. Classic.

Part of me thinks we should engage a bit more here, if only for the sake of keeping the spirits up.
We are all saddened by the state of our community and while not meaning to trivialise it, I am beginning to appreciate what previous generations did for us a bit more for the legacy they bestowed upon us. The facilities and luxuries we have are a far cry even from what was about in the last century.
MOM put in well when he spoke of people who emigrated knowing they would never return, may weren't even sure they would make it across. Far from a killjoy am I and anyone who knows me will confirm, but we have so much to be grateful for. And hey, we will get back to normality and we will argue on here again - meanwhile keep the spirits up, come on Mandad and Vet, 'give us a bit of yer crack' as they'd say up here in the Highlands on Donegal.
To get a bit of scandal going I heard this tale lately, and no, I didn't make it up - you couldn't make it up.
There was this bank manager who Listowel people used to say would only offer to buy you a drink when your glass was full - I think it was Billy The Kid I head at it and while the same fella might have his human frailties he does deserve credit for always having something to say anyway.
So as things go in NK didn't a loosened tongue take issue with the banker of a night down in The Arms Hotel only for the cheeky scut' to reply that he developed this skill from his day job of only giving money to people who already had it, i.e. banks don't like giving money top people who need it. And well he was right about lending the drink too, because he'd always catch you back! As John B used to 'wan drink borrows another' though that's when the company is good.
And so true was the story that the Irish pound was called punt because it rhymed with bank manager.
HEY, LET'S HAVE A JOKE COMPETITION, A NEW CETEGORY FOR OUR ANNUAL FORUM AWARDS, ANYTHING TO LIFT THE SPIRIT, OVER TO YOU ALL. I'LL STAND THE BEST JOKER A PINT IN BARRY'S HOTEL THE NEXT TIME I AM UP, YE WON'T GET A BETTER OFFER THAN THAT AND HOPEFULLY WE WON'T HAVE TO WAIT TOO LONG!
Take care a chairde and let's stick together for now, I'm not a holy one but I have an odd word with the Boyeen above these days, asking him to go aisy on us.
