Clarke was taken off due to injury and Hennelly came on against Monaghan. Clarke is the better keeper by a country mile. Apparently if the match is level after extra time we go to penalties! What do the purists make of that?! If we went to penalties and Clarke was in goals I would not fancy our chances. Penalties have replaced the free kick contest in deciding games. I think there were a couple of games in the FBD league decided on penalties. Unlikely to come to it but it would be quite the novelty. I don't agree with the penalty shootout in football. The rule last year was for a free kick shootout from the top of the D(33m). I don't think it was used in any match. The rule for hurling was a 65m shootout. This was used in the Limerick Clare hurling league quarterfinal last year. This shootout was quite boring for spectators and hence the reason for changing to penalties. But why change the football rule when the freekick shootout was never used? I would prefer to test the Gaelic skills of the players rather than testing their soccer skills. TBH I'm not too bothered either way. One advantage with penalties is that there is practically no doubt about it being a score or not. I can imagine with a points contest (without Hawkeye) there being a lot of contested points / wides. And we all know what the standard of umpiring is like!! To bring it back to the game on Sunday.... Cillian O'Connor is still out for Mayo. That deprives them of their top free taker. Sean O'Shea could be the difference in a tight game. Kerry are due a good performance in Croke Park. Our last three visits have been nothing short of disastrous i.e. Galway in Super 8s, Dublin in 2018 League and Mayo in 2017 semi replay. Three games we would all like to forget.

We’ve no doubt about the football ability of David Clifford and Sean O’Shea but Mayo will seek to get under their skin mentally. Both players showed signs of reaction against Roscommon when provoked – Mayo are sharp and will pick up on any naivety to the more cynical nature of the game at this level. Important these players stay cool, we need them on field, not getting cards or involved in off the ball shenanigans. Stay cool lads and let your football do the talking will surely be Peter’s message. On the other hand, Jack Barry is a fine footballer but he looks almost apologetic at times, he needs to find a bit of badness and madness and bring a bit more aggression to his game. We get any bit of parity at midfield and we can win this game. Come on the Kingdom!!

Same team as last week.
Could be a dummy team.

Predictable enough team...rewards the wins so far rather than anticipating a summer team.
Hopefully they will be focused and ready for a battle, which could turn out to be a very good game.

GARDAI have warned motorists to expect delays this weekend on the M7 at Naas as workers demolish a bridge in the area.
Gardai have warned commuters to expect delays
Traffic in both directions will be diverted to newly constructed slip roads where a 25kmh speed limit will be put in place.
Work will begin on the demolition over the weekend on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31, 2019 - but traffic diversions will begin from 9 pm on Friday, March 29.

That Clifford didn't kill some bucko in Clones last Summer I'll never know - repeatedly head butted - they do it with back to a distant ref so even if he gets a glimpse he can't pick up on it. I'd like to know what David puts in his cornflakes, maybe they need to go shopping together.

Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan and Donal Vaughan are picked for sunday. Hennelly is in goals.
James Carr makes his debut at corner forward. He is 22. Dont know anything else about him.

Good enough road from Portlaoise to Kilbeggan and you dont have to go through Tullamore. I would recommend this plan. You also hsve the option then of leaving the car in Maynooth station and getting the train to Drumcondra.

If you're working off google maps and did the check late last night then it wont take into account the traffic as their journey updates are in real time. I think if you add a good chunk of matchday traffic to that road at 25km then the added journey time will exceed 30 mins

Treat the delays on M7 as extreme.

I'd be inclined to go through Newbridge & Naas, coming out at the big ball, or divert across country from Newbridge via Carragh to Maynooth rather than going to Killbeggan from Portlaoise. The game is late so there should be a good spread of trafffic, more so if leaving early from Kerry in the morning. Avoid hitting the roadworks 2-3 hours out from the game.

Same team as last week. Could be a dummy team. Paul Geaney and Adrian Spillane added to subs, nobody came out from last week's subs. So likely the print deadline for the match program came before the team was picked. Doesn't have to mean it won't still be the team though. Will 2 names have to be cut from the match panel on Sunday I wonder.

My point really was only worth considering if you thought the roadworks would cause a delay of over 30 mins.

From An Garda Síochána Twitter account:
"GOOD NEWS - The demolition at J9 Oberstown on the M7 has been completed ahead of schedule. The M7 will now re-open to traffic from 6am on Sunday morn. Note - A speed limit of 60km/h on the works route is still in place & motorists should factor this into journey times."

Mayo (NFL Division One Final v Kerry, 31/3/2019):
Robbie Hennelly (Breaffy);
Chris Barrett (Belmullet), Brendan Harrison (Aghamore), Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis);
Paddy Durcan (Castlebar Mitchels), Lee Keegan (Westport), Donal Vaughan (Castlebar Mitchels);
Matthew Ruane (Breaffy), Aidan O’Shea (Breaffy);
Fergal Boland (Aghamore), Jason Doherty (Burrishoole), Diarmuid O’Connor (Ballintubber); Kevin McLoughlin (Knockmore), Darren Coen (Hollymount/Carramore), James Carr (Ardagh).
From MAYO GAA
So, League decider or no League decider, the switching and shifting continues and as a result the team picked for Sunday contains five changes from the one that started the last day against Monaghan. Into the team come goalkeeper Robbie Hennelly, as well as Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan, Donal Vaughan and debutant James Carr. Out from the last day go the injured David Clarke, as well as Stephen Coen, Eoin O’Donoghue, James McCormack and Conor Diskin.
Sunday’s team contains nine survivors from the side that lined out against Kerry in Tralee two weekends back. Chris Barrett, Brendan Harrison, Keith Higgins, Donal Vaughan, Matthew Ruane, Aidan O’Shea, Diarmuid O’Connor, Jason Doherty and Kevin McLoughlin all started for us in Tralee, while Robbie Hennelly, Lee Keegan and Fergal Boland all saw action off the bench that night.

From MAYO GAA Strong middle 8, but I think O'Shea will go back again on Walsh with Higgins moved out to half back and probably Vaughan out to midfield.. at times.. but Keane will be content with this as it'll reduce O'Shea's effect around the middle and driving forward. In saying that, Mayo have Clifford to worry about this time round as well with Geaney and O' Donoghue ready to be called also. My big concern for us is that Mayo's half forward line will be given too much room especially with McLoughlin coming out from his corner forward position also.

The clash of Kerry half forward line and Mayos half back line will be intriguing and probably decisive. Hennelly in goal weakens Mayo in my view.

No mention of Mayo subs. They out subbed us in Tralee. Our starting fifteen superior. Midfield a worry. Cannot see either of us troubling Dubs. Kerry to win by 7.
