Kevin McLoughlin is one versatile footballer, from half back to now forward. Very influential, deceptively tricky in possession, great balance, and likes a goal. An eel. His influence needs dampening on Sunday

It will be interesting to see if we cope better with O’Shea and Ruane In midfield than we did last week. O’Shea seemed to have a good game again yesterday from the limited highlights shown last night. The wider spaces of Croke Park don’t suit him as much and we need to exploit his lack of pace the way Dublin have done. We also need to track the runs of Ruane better than we did in Tralee. If we manage both of those then we will be well on our way. I don’t see the team changing much from yesterday. Gavin O’Brien may come back in esp if Kevin McCarthy is injured. Morley and O’Beaglaoich could also be in contention in defense and Peter may look at Griffin again for physicality in midfield but he hasn’t been overly impressive to date. I would be very surprised if Mark Griffin starts. Aiden is played at the top of his game at the moment in stark contrast to this time last year. I would put Shane Enright on him and let them lock horns. That would suit Kerry.

I’d play the same team as for the Roscommon game. I’m not to interested in seeing how Enright goes on O’Shea, that may well happen later in the year. It’s better to see the younger lads battle it out for now. As PK say it’s just one more game

Re Mark Griffin, I wouldn’t touch him. I was very disappointed with his performance in Tralee. He looked static and not in the battle through the second half. I feel he is one player who has played himself out of contention,

Does anyone know if the tickets in supervalue are better than those on-line. They are poor on line. Stuck in the corners

The way to play him is the way Dublin have in big games, Take him all over the field and starve him of the ball.

Yes we need to outplay O Shea and out play Mayo Let’s not try to out muscle them that’s not what we’re about . Again we’re focusing too much on the opposition

Can’t believe ppl here are suggesting Enright to play midfield on O Shea. What a load of nonsense. A man who has never played championship anywhere other than corner back and we are now saying to put him midfield on the oppositions best player, sweet Jesus! If J Barry can handle Fenton surely he can out play O Shea, who is good on the ball but is as slow as a wet week. A bit of faith in Barry here by mgt who need to lay down the mantle to Barry to lord it here and let D O Connor have a go at Ruane who is as new to the scene as he is is. We are overrating these guys massively. Get the ball into Clifford early and he’ll beat them on his own.

To be honest I don't really think Aidan O'Shea is a player that will warrant special planning in August time. Plenty of other Mayo guys I'd be more focused on blotting out.

Part of the midfield problems that we had in Tralee was the kick out. Some of that was the fault of the keeper but a huge part was the lack of movement at the re-starts. Shane Ryan has a better spread of options in this respect and that in itself will improve the possession stakes.
Shane Enright at midfield makes no sense to me. In all my time watching him play at club and inter-county level, I can’t recall ever seeing him field a ball in the air in the ordinary understanding of that skill. In the absence of David Moran, I would stick with Barry and O’Connor.

Its clear from the Tralee game that AOS feels he can bully any Kerry player.
Someone needs to fight fire with fire and I would always turn to a NK man for that like Kerry did with Kennelly, Deenihan, Galvin, Liston, Breen... take your pick.
Anyway, i wont say anymore about it

Sunday is bonus territory for this years NFL Kerry team just striking out on the road. Happy enough to take what comes on Sunday. I wouldn't be getting too caught up in the term "bullying". Let them develop at their own pace. There will be plenty of rewards coming their way down the road later.

Fact Check. Kerry and Mayo have met twice before in a League final with Kerry winning on both occassions - 1970/71 & 1971/72. Kerry have 20 league titles with 6 losses in finals (Galway twice, Dublin twice, Cork & Derry). Last win 2017. Mayo have 11 league titles with 7 losses in finals (Kerry twice, Cork twice, Meath, Dublin & Donegal). Last win 2000/01. Kerry went 23 leagues (28 years, not played every year) without winning the league from 1931/2 to 1958/9. Since 2000 the eventual AI winners have played in the league final on 12 occasions, doing the double 9 times.

Fergal Kelly of Laogford has been nominated as the referee for Sunday’s final, does anyone know enough about him to suggest what way he likes to referee a game. Personally I can’t recall a game in which he was the whistle blower, regardless let’s hope it’s the football we’re talking about after he sounds his last whistle on Sunday evening and good luck to him.

The league is something worthwhile in itself to win we only enter 3 competions a year and one of them the munster has lost all meaning to me at any rate.
If we win sunday i will be a happy man and if we dont sure tis only the league😀

I think Darragh scored his one and only goal for Kerry against Mayo in a QF or SF in Croker.
Am i right in thinking that Kerry havent beaten Mayo in Croker since?
Anyone know in what year did the match, to which i refer, happen?

its not the dog in the fight...its the fight in the dog.... Ah that old chestnut again. Nothing against you mickmack but i can't stand that cliché. One hears the usual it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog cliché thrown out in the GAA when a side is up against it but no side has a guaranteed monopoly on heart or fight and when it's matched even then the law of the jungle applies. As for Sunday, both sides will be ravenous to win, both sides i imagine will match each other with equal fight and equal heart. However, Mayo are a more experienced squad, physically stronger and bigger at the moment but maybe the pendulum is swinging and Kerry might just have enough better footballers but has it swung enough for Sunday?

Mayo lost their best chance in 2016 For me a win for Kerry would be extremely beneficial to this group. Winning national competitions can only breed confidence and we can bank that for latter in the year. I see comments amounting to Dublin not caring to much about the league. I find this strange given their approach every year under Gavin was to win every competition from the O Byrne cup to the All Ireland. I actually think the chasing pack might be getting closer than people think. Winning on Sunday will give our young lads massive confidence to deal with bigger days to come as it did a young Dublin side a few years back.

Kerry have beaten Mayo twice since 2005 in Croker...the 2006 Final and the 2011 Semi-Final. Looks like you need a good reference book Mick...

For comparison purposes only:
Dublin played 7 league games in 2019.
Kerry in 1982, when chasing the 5 in a row, had 3 games in the autumn of 1981 (beating Dublin and Roscommon, losing to Mayo...all 3 away games). 1982 shows 4 regular league games (lost to Armagh in Killorglin, beat Offaly, Galway and Cork, with Galway the only away game).
Then the fun started...next game was a play-off loss to Cork in Killarney, followed by a preliminary quarter-final win over Clare in Ennis, a quarter-final win over Derry in Croke Park, a semi-final win over Armagh in Dublin, a drawn final with Cork in Killarney, and finally a replayed final win over Cork in Cork on 24 May 1982.
Total of 13 games. Too many? Better to have competitive games than challenges or in-house games?

I don’t know where this idea that Enright is the man for O’Shea has come from. Even if he could quieten O’Shea it would limit Kerry hugely around the middle. Enright will contribute absolutely nothing going the other way you would imagine and what would it say to the likes of Diarmuid O’Connor who did well last weekend to drop him for a veteran corner back who has no experience whatsoever of the position?
Stick with O’Connor and Barry for me with Sean O’Shea and Gavin O’Brien dropping in to help out at times. If it’s not good enough so be it. Kick outs will be crucial, we got murdered there the last time we faced them.
Well done to PK and his charges on getting this far btw. Win or lose it is a great feat with so many absentees and new faces throughout the competition. It is a pleasure to be heading up for this at the weekend I didn’t imagine we would see Croke Park until later in the year.
I’d give us every chance here and expect a much improved performance over the one two weeks prior.

With his performances to date would Diarmuid O Connor break into any of yere championship 15.. if so would you chance him in midfield and use the year as a learning curve for the young lad or wait another year or two. There is no doubt he still has a lot of developing to do mainly physically if he wants to play around the middle but there is nothing that will speed up his development more than game time. Then again it could also hinder his development if he struggles this year and his confidence takes a shot.
I am just interested in yere opinions on him and whether to wait for him to develop or start the development now. I know Moran and Barry are probably our pairing for the year but no harm in thinking outside the box
Didn’t Fenton go straight into the Dublin midfield? I’m not comparing him to Fenton this early and they look to be different players but it just shows that it can be done.

I think he should be left back with the U20’s unless he develops very quickly. Fenton was 22 I think when he broke in to the Dublin team so a couple of years older than Diarmuid, and was coming in to a dominant side full of veterans that helped facilitate his inclusion. It would be asking a lot for Diarmuid to be a starter in 2019, and it could do more harm than good in the long run..
