Hard to tell from U20 v Limerick but he looked the part tonight, certainly. Fine strong lad who won his battle against another fine strong lad from Limerick. One particular moment from the first half stands out, where he cleanly won a high ball into the the penalty area against 3 Limerick men. Lovely striker of the football too. Sounds exciting, could be Kerry's answer for a big target man. Even though David Clifford is capable but never used as a full forward, which should be experimented in my opinion. I will be watch Donal's career for sure after a display like this. I wouldn't describe him as a big target man. His game is more about movement. Tonight maybe he was able to play more of a target man role as his man wasn't the biggest.

But he's strong and mobile with good hands and feet.

A talented forward with good movement and able to take his score is always welcome.

Donal O'Sullivan not a big target man style full forward. pace, skill his main attributes though not a lightweight physically He is a real exciting talent. A superb hurler too

Job done - Limerick were very poor and lacked any ambition to actually win the game. Mindset from the start was damage limitation. They defended with 12 isolating a two man full forward line and a man on the 40 to link play but never played like they meant it. Ran the ball out of defence and usually lost it at the Kerry 45. For their part Kerry showed too much respect and played ball over and back accross the Limerick 45, picking off occasional scores. When Kerry ran at Limerick with menace they seemed to have the beating of them but they seemed to prefer to retain possession and play it about. The Limerick goal is a concern - a long range free with the tall (at least taller than our FB) full forward getting a hand to it to send it tamely accross goal and into the net. Against a stiff breeze Kerry led 10 to 2 at half time. When the second half began it was Limerick that played the better and it was only the last 10 minutes or so that Kerry began to add points. I was expecting Kerry to put the game away in the third quarter with the aid of the breeze but this did not happen. A comfortable win but against better opposition Kerry will need to up their performance considerably.

Just being the devils advocate for a moment: I imagine that if you were to revert back a few pages to reports of games under Jack’s stewardship during the past number of years that you would read about many of the same tactics that were non-productive then. It’s an enduring pattern; good up to the 45-meter line and then we pass the ball incessantly and clueless. Our attacking ‘strategy’ quickly evaporate when under put stress.
Jack struggles to master all of the complexities of the modern game with all the different dynamics. My great fear is that a rich pool of exceptional under-age talent are frittered away before we see the light.

Definitely agree about Jack. I think they have a chance of winning it but definitely would need a big improvement.
Galway would be my favorites to win it.
I think like anything if you get 4 or 5 of that team coming through you would be doing well.
Theyre still very young so they have time on their side. Time will tell .

Problem is the final is on Thursday 18th. I assume both management teams would want more than 3 full days to prepare for the final. put it back 2 days to the saturday....no teams are in it yet. Cork seniors playing Super 8s 2 days later. Kerry seniors playing 3 days later.

After the 2017 game v Galway and the 2018 game v Kildare, i will be watching with some trepidation and with lowered expectations. Looking forward to watching Barry oMahony in particular as he seems to me to have huge potential.

Cork playing with far more urgency. There's no need for our lads to be chasing goals with 25 min. on the clock. Pick away points and no panic.

Kickout plan seems to be to aim for the wing forwards. Not working

Goals needed now
Shocking display. It shows again how good Clifford is.

This now should be the end of JoC’s involvement in Kerry teams beyond maybe u15 development squads.

Notwithstanding the monumental losses of Clifford and O'Connor (which was known a year out), this was a really dreadful display.

Agreed. Kerry had no entitlement to expect to win this but it should at least be competitive

Absolutely schooled. Depressing to watch.
These wonderful footballers who have proved it time and time again for the Minors, getting taught a lesson.

I said after the lost to Galway in 2017 that jacks time as manager is over at any level with Kerry. He is a Kerry legend and imo one of greatest Kerry football man around but I’m sorry it’s like a bad smell at this stage worse than wenger at Arsenal . Where was jack griffin crokes??
