It would be a totally different scenario in 2016 v Dublin and 2017 v Mayo if Kerry had got 50% of possession from all restarts. It didnt happen in those games so tracking back and being on the back foot was Kerrys lot. There is evidence that Kerry will be better in 2019 in this respect with fielding ability in a half forward of Gavin o Brien, SOS and Dara Moynihan allied to Moran, JB and possibly TW at midfield. I think the short kickout option will be better too than in 2016 and 2017 whichever of the Shanes is in goal. Kerry also pack more scoring power in this years half back line than in 2016 v Dublin for example with Tom Sullivan and Paul Murphy in particular complementing the forwards. So maybe our opponents will be the ones worrying about tracking back this year. Maybe the fundamental root cause of Kerrys woes since 2014 will finally be solved... "getting your hands on the football" from restarts to quote Eddie o Sullivan I havent referenced 2018. Better to wipe 2018 from the memory bank. We lost to Mayo in 2017. That was worse. The Galway game in 2018 never actually happened though.

Very quiet in here for a game.
I see that there's a lot of rain forecast for the south and all counties have been told to be prepared to play the games on Sunday or Monday if there are any postponements.

I guess there isnt that much at stake really unless we get a tanking hard to see us not qualifing and it would take a bit of a miracle for mayo to qaulify. I really hope the game isnt postponed and if it is it would have to be the sunday to accommodate the mayo fans. Be a pain as im heading into club finals sunday

Whether it’s this weekend or next year or two or three years down the line I think O Brien is a super prospect here at 8 or 9. Not a bad weekend to try it in a game where we can experiment probably dosent have the years of conditioning yet but surely he’d give us a good 35 minutes there .

People keep talking about GOB conditioning. He looks fairly athletic to me.

People keep talking about GOB conditioning. He looks fairly athletic to me. Gavin from dublin doesnt have much bulk either id be happy with o brien and and barry with o shea helping out. O shea is iron for such a young lad and barry is a good size. Is sherwood fit?

Kelly for Ryan will annoy a few Not me anyway. Ryan has made mistakes in the last 3 games. There has to be consequences for poor performance same as all other positions

As has punching balls that could have been caught cleanly. Work on a few items and he could be the long-term solution. Hopefully, he gets released to play all Rathmore club games in goal, while holding his county panel place and not training with the club...will be interesting to see where he lines out in the club championship in April.

There has to be consequences for poor performance same as all other positions I think Ryan may need another year to develop in the position myself. You could see the lack of experience in several games, also i think he needs to develop more range in his kickouts. Overall though i think he has the most potential of the three lads.

If Shane Murphy acquits himself well on St. Patrick’s day he is likely to regain the goal keeping position for 2019.

So we start with 6 half backs. Six games in and we still do not have a man marker. Can we really get away with this come championship time?

I expect Shane Murphy to start v the Rossies.
All 3 keepers will be in the frame for the league final then.

All about versatility at the moment think we match up ok for mayo here. Aos plays as a midfielder anyway so griffen/spillane will pick him up sullivan is a good wb well capable of marking there murphy will be the free man. I personally would like if foley was starting but i dont see them 2/3 times a week training so im going to put my faith in the man who does (and hasnt lost an ic game yet)

MAYO make the long trip south to face Kerry in Austin Stack Park, Tralee tomorrow night.
Two defeats in a row means Mayo need a win to stave off any relegation worries ahead of the final round of games next weekend. The team named shows three changes from the loss to Galway with Michael Plunkett, Conor Loftus & Kevin McLoughlin all coming into the team in place of Lee Keegan, Colm Boyle & Darren Coen. Saturday night will be a 50th senior appearance for Stephen Coen. The former Minor, U21 & Sigerson cup winning captain made his league debut against Kerry in February 2015.
1. David Clarke - Ballina Stephenites 2. Chris Barrett - Belmullet 3. Brendan Harrison - Aghamore 4. Keith Higgins - Ballyhaunis 5. Stephen Coen - Hollymount/Carramore 6. Michael Plunkett - Ballintubber 7. Donal Vaughan - Castlebar Mitchels 8. Matthew Ruane - Breaffy 9. Aidan O’Shea - Breaffy 10. Fionn McDonagh - Westport 11. Conor Loftus - Crossmolina Deel Rovers 12. Diarmuid O'Connor - Ballintubber(C) 13. Kevin McLoughlin - Knockmore 14. Jason Doherty - Burrishoole 15. James Durcan - Castlebar Mitchels

I for one am disappointed Shane Ryan is on the bench. Lads calling for him to be changed after only 5 games is a joke. He has to make mistakes to learn, Murphy got the same fickle criticism when we were leaking serious amount last year. I've nothing against Kelly but Shane deserves to be number 1 after 5 wins.

I think I'm correct in thinking that a matchday panel consists of a total of 26 players. I notice that we have named 27 on this occasion. I wonder why.

If I were to guess it is because someone on the bench is carrying an injury, and if not fit will be dropped off the panel tomorrow, if fit someone else will make way..

Folks does anyone know how well does the new sod in ASP deal with rain like we are experiencing today ?
Royalkerryfan, I don’t think giving other keepers a game between the sticks is a bad plan, you have to keep them both fresh and keen. To be fair Ryan has had three very similar “moments” that we were fortunate to walk away with a victory with, that won’t go unnoticed going forward but I still think he is a very good overall keeper.

The goalkeeping position is still a weakness. We have 3 keepers none of whom are top level yet. Ryan looks like a guy still learning the position at senior level. A spell in goals for the club wouldn't hurt.

Abysmal at the moment in North Kerry. Forecast to ease off later; if it doesn't, we'll need to bring the snorkles tonight.

Austin Stack Park has excellent drainage - no worries about the pitch. Rain easing off now in Tralee, due to cease in the afternoon with the odd shower but forecast is for a very cold evening.
