Castlegregory had their promotion hopes ended in dramatic fashion against Waterville down in Cahersiveen today.
Castle up 2 points deep in injury time when Waterville scored a last kick of the game penalty by Barry O'Dwyer, a defeat which leaves them 2 points behind 3rd place Laune Rangers with a game to go, and Rangers guaranteed the points in the last round as they were due play the now withdrawn Valentia team.

Assuming Valentia have indeed withdrawn, it's promotion for Duagh, Churchill and Laune Rangers.
Valentia relegated, to be joined by two of the three - Cordal, Tarbert, or St. Michael's-Foilmore.
St. Michael's-Foilmore can send the other two down by getting at least a point against Churchill.
Tarbert play Cordal and the loser goes down, if it's a draw both go down. The winner will most likely be level with St. Michael's-Foilmore and a playoff will be needed, with the loser going down.
Cordal's back game versus Finuge could be huge...if it's ever played.

That back game means Finuge could still catch the 3 teams at the top, nobody promoted yet as far as I can see. Could be any 3 of those 4. Cordal game with Finuge could decide a lot at both ends of table.

I incorrectly assumed that Finuge conceded the points to Cordal - this game needs to be refixed before the last round, or will the last round be postponed entirely?
Finuge can get to 17 points max with wins over Cordal in Cordal and Waterville at home.
Duagh on 17 already, so a point in their last game in Castlegregory gets them promoted. Churchill on 16 points need to beat St. Michael's-Foilmore at home to guarantee promotion. Laune Rangers will be on 17 if they get the points from Valentia and will be in a playoff with Finuge.

One other point on the relegation issue.
It was mentioned in the Division 2 thread that if teams are level, then it's decided by which team has fulfilled most of their fixtures.
Which brings up the unfortunate circumstances of Cordal giving the points to Castlegregory on the weekend of the Kerry Junior team's win.
That walkover could mean that even if Cordal won their last 2 games, Bally/Foilmore might just need to field a team against Churchill to avoid relegation.
Bit of an irony that it was one of Philip O'Connor's county teammates Barry Dwyer who finished off Castlegregory's chances.
So Tarbert would appear to be the only danger now to Bally/Foilmore's survival hopes.

Bit of karma in that for Castle considering they pulled a sly one on Cordal by not agreeing to rearrange the game when they knew Cordal would be down the Kerry junior captain and several others.

They should have agreed to rearrange the game

That’s unfair on Castle. They could very well have had players missing on the Friday night. They were under no obligation to change the fixture if it didn’t suit them. It was the County Boards fault and no one else’s.

It was the County Boards fault and no one else’s. Could have played on a diff weekend County board can’t change the fixture once the fixture has been made- as per their own rules. Fixture can only be changed by the 2 clubs reaching an agreement

Duagh will go up as champions - playing Castle last game and Castle have nothing to play for Churchill will join them Laune Rangers and Finuge to playoff for the 3rd place which will not be on for quite a while with the hurling etc (Finuge have to play their 2 back games and win them of course)
Valentia, Cordal and Tarbert to go down to division 5 - Valentia most likely won't have a team next year so probably means one less team in div 5

Result from tonight: Cordal 2-14 Finuge 2-15.
Cordal are relegated. Finuge still alive in the promotion race, as they are now level on 15 points with Laune Rangers.

Duagh 6-11 to Castlegregory's 1-8 tells its own story.
Waterville could not field a team against Finuge, so the North Kerry men get the points.
Duagh are Champions on 19 points, with Laune Rangers on 17...both have finished their respective campaigns, and are promoted.
Churchill and Finuge are level on 16 points, but Churchill have one game left (Finuge are done for the year).
At the foot of the table, Valentia and Cordal are relegated. The other relegation spot is between Tarbert (5 points) and St. Michael's-Foilmore (7 points).
The last pair of games left sees Churchill hosting St. Michael's-Foilmore and Tarbert hosting Cordal.
Churchill need a point to guarantee promotion and St. Michael's-Foilmore need a point to guarantee safety.
Tarbert must win and St. Michael's-Foilmore must lose for a relegation play-off between those two.

Providing Churchill win their last game, Rangers and Finuge will playoff to see who goes up

Laune Rangers were 6 out of 6 earlier in the year - some fall away since - seem to be conceding too much at the back - i guess themselves and finuge in play off which could be a cracker if remaining results go as expected - well done to Duagh great achievement for rural club

Last pair of games set for 17 November...Churchill host St. Michael's-Foilmore while Tarbert entertain Cordal.
Churchill must get a draw at least to force a play-off between themselves, Finuge and Laune Rangers...while a win will gain Churchill promotion and leave the other two in a play-off for the final promotion spot. A Churchill loss will leave them in Div 4 for next year.
At the other end of the table, Tarbert must win and St. Michael's-Foilmore must lose to set up a relegation play-off between those two. Anything different sees Tarbert go down.

When are the playoffs likely to take place? Michaels/Foilmore have sk championship next weekend, not sure about Tarbert. Are Laune Rangers still in the mid Kerry championship? Well done to the 2 promoted, Duagh have struggled for the last 5 or 6 years so its good to see them making a return up the tables. Churchill always seem to be bouncing between 4 and 5, when were they last up in 3?
