It should be impossible to guess the team that Peter will pick – if it is possible to predict based on last year then it was a waste of time changing management.
Sunday’s game will not reveal much and will probably be an uninspiring affair. It will decide the destination of the points but that is all. We will learn very little about the team we will have come summer. Hopefully Kerry will have a few of new faces so we will get a cocktail of youth, hunger, inexperience and a lack of teamwork. I don’t think that not being in the McGrath Cup was a bad thing. Presumably players started training in early December with Donie starting on his plan for the season. There wouldn’t be much to be gained by interrupting that in January to travel to Waterford for a facile win in bad conditions.
Tyrone are a long way short of the standard normally associated with “All Ireland finalists”. They will almost certainly be defensive and are unlikely to put up a big score.
With Kerry having the more natural scoring players and everyone trying to impress as well as home advantage they should shade it by about 2 or 3 points.

Kerry eventually ran aground last summer and needed a change in direction. The "awful excited people" after the Mayo NFL last year was because of the energy the young players displayed. Come summer it was still these young players that were still playing with energy, spirit and adventure . I wouldn't be judging Kerry in 2019 at all on the good ship 2018 version. New voice, new players and all that now...........
Tyrone might get 12-14 points on Sunday, struggled to shake off Armagh last weekend so Sunday will be interesting. Looking forward to it with a renewed vigour.

Am i right in thinking that Paidi was the last Kerry manager to win a first league game of the season in Killarney?
Hopefully we will be talking about Ole Gunnar Keane on Sunday evening!

The training in Dec was mostly indoors with new S & C coach - Donie Buckley only returned last week from US so would not expect to see any appreciable change in our tackling/defensive set up for a while yet.

Ye might be in for a bit of a shock lads .. for once we have a big midfielder :-) lol ... Big TALL young lad Kennedy at MF which is most certainly a new experience for us .. just thought I'd let yez know as we dont want any heart attacks when ye see him..
No seriously, he's a big lad and hopefully will be a good one .. very good club footballer but he's still young so we'll see...
Also, Kyle Coney back int he squad so hopefully he can fulfill all that potential .. hes still young enough to do it..
and we have Canavans cub in the squad now too .. fantastic player but probably a bit young yet to be baptised in Killarney ..
Hope its a decent game .. wont get to it unfortunately.

I'd say Morley and Tom Sullivan will either start or move into the full back line. Geaney to drop out and leave room for the two boys inside. Will see how it goes!

Dont know what to make of the team to be honest. For all the talk about a brave new Dawn etc by my reckoning
Crowley Sherwood O Beaglaoich Murphy Tom O Sullivan Morley Jack Barry O Brien Lyne Seanie Shea Geaney Geaney JOD
Have all played chamapionsip and G Crowley has def played league. So is it just Shane ryan is totally new? A few new lads on the bench ok.
I presume the positions are interchangeable in defense? Hope Sherwood makes a fist of full back.
Peter Crowley is too loose and fouls too much for the corner. Paul Murphy would give more from the wing. Unless the plan is for Morley to sweep and Lyne to drop back and Mikey Geaney to play further out.
Despite the my reservations about the positions etc. Looking forward to the game and hope we play some heads up football. Think maybe we might be light on scores in the forwards. Lyne, and Mikey Geaney will prob have a defensive role. Stephen O Brien is a streaky forward in that he could kick 1-3 or nothing.
Hopefully we can make use of accurate footpassing for a few marks

Good idea not to select some of the younger players against Tyrone. There will be another day to do that. Looks like a few of the older stock are being given another chance to prove themselves.

With all the guesses and comments over the last few weeks we finally have a team. Thank You God 😁 And to be quite honest I was dreading this game with the bigger and more powerful team that Throne would field. Looking at the team named, my mood has lifted. Best of luck to PK and his team. Ciarrai Abu.

I presume David Clifford is injured. Or if the rumours I heard late last year are true? He is in recovery?

So the start of a new era, yet only one debutant in the line up. Everyone at this stage muct know what Mikey Geaney, James O Donoghue, Peter Crowley etc have to offer. Dont know why someone like Gavin O Brian or Thomas O Se weren't given a look at from the start

Mikey Geaney is not a free scoring forward but on his day he knows where the posts are. I think it's as experienced a team as PK could have picked at this time of year. Maybe try to get points earlier in the league and experiment later.
As with a lot of the league teams the bench is nearly more interesting. I stand open to correction but I think there are about 6 or 7 senior debutants togging out on Sunday.

I can’t help but feel anything other than underwhelmed by the starting 15, only one debutant. Are Lyne and Sherwood deserving of yet another chance? Seen both players multiple times at club league and championship level and I genuinely wouldn’t have picked either of them out as being inter-County standard!

You have to remember that there are heaps of players missing through Crokes, injury, Sigerson, etc. Might I suggest Sherwood hasn't had loads of chances.

I see your point, still though he would have been on the Kerry training panel from 2012 to the start of 2016, that is a lot of collective nights at training to raise your hand for selection, add into that the 15 or so league and championship appearances the 28 year old has made for Kerry. I can’t help but feel a younger player is more deserving of their first chance and that there are multiple better club players around the county that have never ever had a chance.
