To keep our feet on the ground after last year, Carlow did us a favour by beating Offaly. Laois will be strong in the McDonagh with the benefit of Division 1 hurling. 3 into 2 doesn't go. Laois, Offaly and Kerry will all be battling for the top 2. Kildare have had a good start to the league. Carlow if they find their McDonagh form and Down are no pushovers. It's a competitive level. Kerry kind of fell into the Joe McDonagh final last year rather than qualifying with conviction anyways lot of negativity about, lets be more positive including myself Jason Diggins and Brandon Barrett back on the panel is a boost

If Barry gets cut from Jack O Connors football panel, will he even go in with the Kerry hurlers? I am not so sure he will. As mentioned above Barry Dan, Donal Down and Barry Mahony could be the difference in winning Joe McDonagh. Even Jack Goulding playing for London is a loss and they should of worked something out with Darragh O Connell to give one big year to kerry hurlers even if he done one night with Cuala during the week to break up the commute. Barry Dan, Donal Down, Barry Mahony all won all ireland under 21 B medals in hurling with Kerry Barry Dan is scary good at hurling for a man that has only dabbled in it really Jack Goulding was a big loss to the hurlers as you say when he moved to London An issue is the reliance on scoring frees. I know even at the top level it's the case too. Kerry are missing fellas who'll score 2/3 points from play in most games on top of the frees. Goulding is just that sort of player.

Big game for Kerry on Saturday v Offaly in Fitzgerald stadium.
A win here would bring them ever closer to a place in the division 2 final.
It was an epic game last year v Offaly in the Joe McDonagh so they will be no pushover and probably slight favourites.
Other forwards will need to chip in with Podge Boyle if Kerry are to win.

Another sickening close loss to Offaly. Makes qualification for the League Final a bit more challenging. A sideline cut to win it with the last puck of the game for Offaly.

We did relegate Offaly to the Ring a few years back. They have a fierce determination to get one over on us. They are probably our current rivals, taking over from Carlow and Westmeath.

Can't afford anymore slip ups if we're to make thr find imo. Another one that got away however and we really do need a big result to push things on.

The tricky part is that whichever McDonagh Cup county wins the semi-final will be playing for 7 weekends in a row between league R4, R5, semi-final, final, McDonagh R1, R2 and R3.

Seeing as Barry O’Mahony saw little to no game time with the footballers and wasn’t in recent match day squads, would be be a starter if returned to the hurling squad?

Kildare won again today so pressure is on to get a result against them now.

Disappointing result against Kildare this afternoon. It's very had to know where Kerry are and are going in general.
By the sounds of it on the radio Kerry couldn't handle them in the first half. Carlow lost today so that will help but will have to get a result against Down.

Disappointing result. Kildare are on an upward trajectory. Concerning for Kerry. Kerry lost to Down and Westmeath in last year's league. Similar league form again this year.

Down drew with Derry. It means Kerry will finish 3rd. The match against Down next week is irrelevant. Kerry will be away to Offaly or Kildare the following week in the semi-final. Winning the semi-final is a poisoned chalice as the winner will have a final the week after, immediately before 3 rounds of McDonagh. Crazy scheduling.

Kildare hurling is very much on an upward trajectory alright Kerry appear to be a bit stagnant, kind of not able to push on to claim titles at their level Still, a victory over Down and it is all to play for

The so-called experts talk about Division 1 teams, especially Munster counties, peaking for the Munster round robin. The McDonagh round robin was ultra competitive last year. Down is a chance to build experience.

The only counties that had more registered youth teams than Kildare were Cork, Dublin, Tipperary, Galway, Waterford, Limerick, Kilkenny, and Wexford.

Kildare, in both codes, have long been underachieving. It's looking like hurling is where they're going to make an impact. In the 70s they came very close to making a breakthrough in hurling, the one Offaly would subsequently make a few years later. Kerry Minor and U20 teams moving into Leinster should help with it but there's a lot of ground to be made up as Kerry are falling behind the likes of Laois, Antrim etc

Dunloy, Loughgiel, Cushendall etc can mix it and beat some of the very best senior club teams in Ireland. Derry have Slaughtneil, Down have Portaferry, Carlow had Mount Leinster Rangers and Offaly had Birr and Kilcormac Kiloughey. Kerry does not have a big strong senior club/clubs able to take on the big senior clubs in Ireland. Kilmoyley done well but that was at intermediate level, which is a good step below senior club hurling. Big hurling areas in Antrim aswel, Kerry clubs are picking from from very small parishes in North Kerry. All these things go against you when you are trying to get out of the Joe McDonagh cup or even Division 2 for that Matter. Naas competed decently against Ballyhale this year and the Naas players took huge confidence from that and you see they are backboning the Kildare team that beat Kerry last weekend.

I've long said the issue with Kerry clubs is they're playing each other too often. It's the case with both North and South Kerry teams. I actually heard something recently thst in the 90s there was a league played during the summer involving Kerry, West Limerick and North Cork clubs. Seemed to go on for a few years. There was also the very brief West Munster League. Clubs in Carlow and Kildare have played in Kilkenny at underage and the benefits are there to be seen.

Offaly next in the semi final. Have come close to them the last few years but would be great ti get over the line against them.

Kerry did relegate Offaly a few years back. Offaly have that extra desire to get over the line. The losses to Offaly and Kildare suggest Kerry are not ready for Division 1 but it's consistent with Kerry's league form for the last few years when they have got to McDonagh finals. Looking ahead to the McDonagh, it is hard to gauge where Laois are. Antrim beat them by 2 goals. The Laois v Westmeath relegation final might give better insight. Division 1 hurling will be a big advantage.

are kildare promoted already or is it only one up, by winning the final? Only the 2A winner are promoted. I don't agree with it. Westmeath and Laois should be relegated after finishing bottom of their Division 1 groups. Kildare and Offaly should be straight into a 2A final and both should be promoted.
