Gaelic football is like Rugby union now in the sense that if you are a man down to a red card you virtually concede the game....as you wont get enough possession from kickouts as you will have to kick long with your own ...and the opposition will have an extra man for their own kickouts.
Kildare were 6 points ahead when they went down to 14 men. I am not too sure that Kerry would have won if the red card hadnt happened.
Kildare were the better team by some distance before the red card.

Kildare beat Mayo and Kerry and still don’t make a semi final !!!!!!!! And we can bunk we have it tough !!!:-) It’s and butts galore for the winter ! IF we made the semi we might have been skewered BUT Clifford might have scored 2-3? McManus and Comer are probably in FF line for All Stars. Has the young Fossa man a chance?

The 2 teams who remained true to their style of football and their respective systems came out of the group. EF blinked and changed course against Galway with obscure tactics and strategies and it resulted in an abject display which was ultimately their undoing. His tinkering against Monaghan proved that.
Would love to see Donie Buckley involved next year - has worked wonders with teams and players, as testimonied by players themselves.

We were average in the league and average to poor in the Super 8's. Discounting second half today. Keeper still a huge problem as are kickouts. Peter Crowley is not a full back - persist with Jason Foley. Centre back is a problem - need a player to hold the fort and shore it up. Porous in defence and lacking dogs with intensity (exhibit A - Monaghan). Midfield balance is wrong. Half fwd line needs a dog at 10 and 12 to complement a scoring 4.

Anyway. A dreary end to a dreary year. Only for a soft red card there we were at nothing.
The winter of our discontent is upon us once again. Six years in and no kick out strategy, no idea of our best team, style of play veering wildly from game to game. If we are going to keep going backwards we might as well have a change anyway.

Liam Kearns has served a long enough apprenticeship. He got a response from every team he managed. He deserves a shot at the Kerry job.

We dont do so well in years ending in 8. Pretty good in the 9s. Roll on 2019. Last 8 should be knockout. Round robin early on.

Up the Kingdom. We finished the match well even though we were only playing for pride as it turned out. So we have one of those unwanted firsts- the first team ever to leave the Championship after a win. Now that we know that Monaghan was the best team in the group our fate was entirely down to our performance against Galway. Imagine if we had played the same way against Galway in the second half as we did against Kildare ( or even Monaghan). We would now be on top of our group even points with Monaghan and ahead on points difference and facing Donegal/Tyrone next weekend.
Well done the players. We have great material to build on but we need a clear out at the top. Sorry Eamonn, you have been a great servant to the Kingdom but a change is overdue. For too long we have been doing the same thing in the expectation of different results and you know what that is the definition of.

Fitzmaurice stepped down this evening? Confirmed, told the media at press conference I think On Kerry GAA and RTE website Absolutely the right decision and like the gentleman he is he leaves without making a fuss. We thank him for the All Ireland and League both against the grain and being undefeated in Munster but a new hand on the tiller is needed now.

Fitzmaurice did what he could but at the same time with the players we've had over his tenure you'd expect us to be closer to Dublin than we have been. Possibly could have had maybe one more all-ireland aswell but it has to be recognised that a lot of seriously talented player called time on their careers while Fitz was in charge and the Kerry team depleted significantly. Liam Kearns has done an outstanding job and can't be faulted with Tipperary but in my opinion Peter Keane has to be favourite at this moment as his minors are unbeaten since he's taken over and he's going for 5 in a row (his 3rd) and also got a very average Legion team to a county final and replay in 2015.

Thank you Éamonn Fitzmaurice.
One All Ireland title, one NFL title, and 6 Munster titles on the trot is a nice haul. The time had come for the future sake of Kerry football and Éamonn has made the absolute right decision to step down.
Éamonn departing alone is not enough and I hope we now see complete regime change. Some of that management team have been inside the bubble for too long and lost touch with reality in some cases. Also ties with those of influence in the media from our noughties generation need to be cut with the sideline. The back scratching and politics stops now! The future health of the Kerry team is too important and a fresh perspective and voice with no previous baggage or attachments is needed. Liam Kearns with Donie Buckley involved or Peter Keane would be a most welcome change of direction. The continual transition excuse period must now finally end and it is time to get serious with the implementation of a settled goalkeeper, a kickout strategy, and an actual style of play.
PS: I could not let the evening go without a word for one of the mentally toughest players to ever represent the green and gold and an absolute warrior - Kieran Donaghy. Thank you STAR for all the fantastic memories.

Just in home after the game, disappointing but I never felt we were going to be done any favours by Galway. I stayed on the pitch afterwards and I was talking to one of the Kildare selectors and he was livid over the sending off. They had to concede the kick outs and thus the game. For long periods in the first half Kildare were streets ahead. It was similar to Clones in many ways. What is most disappointing about kerry, currently, is that something had to happen for them for Kerry to drive on and grab the game by the scruff of the neck. They don't make things happen for themselves out there. The Galway game was the killer, lost by reactive, conservative tactics and a focus on the opposition's strengths rather than our own.Monaghan deserve to be in a semi final on their performances in the super 8's, as do Galway. We don't, not good enough but the future looks very good. Eamon Fitz has stepped down, I have sympathy for him, he has given everything for the cause, people should remember that. Unfortunately, things didn't go right for him and he has paid the price. It was great to be there to watch David Clifford today, what a beautiful footballer. Looking forward to much more in years to come.
