About 5 years ago i was chatting to a young lad of about 16 who was working behind the bar of the beach bar in Inishbofin. He was telling of his hopes of playing minor for Galway. The fact that the island ( a stunning spot by the way) is an hour by boat to Cleggan didnt faze him. A lovely young lad, i followed his progress to goalie for the Galway senior team with interest and i wish him well for sunday.

He's a very good goalie, I was behind his goal for the first half of the Kerry Galway league match in Tralee. He pulled out two fine saves, one of the shots in particular was a bullet, he had a fine game overall and got my attention also. Kerry would want to be picking away at points the next day cause you won't get many goals off him.

Very poor interest in this game if there's been one post here in 23 hours. Where has everyone gone? Same team I presume with maybe Ronan coming back for beagloigh or McCarthy for burns I doubt Ronan will come back for Beaglaioch as he did very well against Cork. But I expect McCharthy to come in for Burns. I would be very surprised if McCarthy started. Kerry need something off the bench and Burns is one of those players you either start or don’t bring on at all. McCarthy has that real edge too and is just unlucky he’s competing to get into that full forward line

I would have no issue seeing Burns come off the bench personally.

I think Kerry will win this by 5 or 6y points. I have not been overly impressed with Galway in the championship and I think Croke Park will suit our new found pace and young lads. I'd start the same 15 as the Munster Final, Burns had one off day which is allowed. Really looking forward to this one.

Complete change of half forward type from even the last 2 years with Buckley/Murphy/Walsh/MGeaney

If everything goes well and according to plan, Kerry will reach the Semi finals, to be played on the weekend of the 11th/12th August. This will see Kerry (along with the other 3 semi finalists) playing 5 games in 4 weeks. I wouldn't be as concerned about who the starting 15 are in any one game, one third of these will be replaced during the games anyway. This is a big slog coming and it's really important that after 4 weeks that (1) injuries are at a minimum, (2) you don't end up with a few guys overplayed and exhausted come semi final time. The next few weeks need to be managed carefully. Kerry, I believe are in a healthier position than most of the other teams in terms of the large number of players we have that are capable of playing at this level. With the proper use of all these players we could have a much fresher team at the business end.

I wonder what our kick out strategy will be. A lot could depend on it. I think Kieran Donaghy is needed in around the square. Will our defense hold up? A lot of punched/palmed goals leaked lately. This is worrying

Kevin Mc is probably there as he is better defensively than Burns?
Match ups will be very interesting. Jason Foley picked up Comer in the league but I doubt he will on Sunday. Would he be better suited on Walsh even though Walsh will take him far out the field? I’d have Crowley on Comer. Begley on Burke (wasn’t it him who caused Fionn all sorts of trouble in the quarter final last year?). Morley to mind the full back line and the two other lads to give Galway something to worry about going the other way.
Big occasion for Clifford, I reckon he’ll end his goal “drought” on Sunday.
I feel that we will be on here Monday satisfied with a win but worried after the concession of a couple of goals.

Glad to see what looks like a settled team. At the very least we will find out how good we are and we have decent options on the bench to call on. Now the real work begins but I think we are up to it.

Our defensive strategy involves scoring as close to, or more than around 30 points and trying to keep the opposition to under 25. 25 is an important number because we'll probably conseed 2 goals as well! We don't have a defensive strategy, it seems to be all out attack. It's man on man at the back, they've tried a sweeper in the past but it just doesn't seem to be the Kerry way,

The weather forecast suggests that there could be rain/drizzle/showers on Sunday. That is a shame .Hope it holds off until evening time.
Michael Burns has done well in his first season but I am not surprised to see Kevin starting. I was surprised he did not start the last day. There is something admirable about this man's earnestness.
Paul Murphy may pick up Shane Walsh . He got the better of him last year. I will be amazed if Peter is not detailed for Damian Comer. He is our only defender that could match him physically. Ian Burke is another dangerous merchant . I presume it will be Jason or young Briain for him. I am not sure if Sean Armstrong will start . He is a fine footballer. All in all they have plenty of very good forwards.
On the other hand of course we have plenty fine forwards as well! I suspect they are going to crowd their back line as they did in Tralee. It will take all our guile and skill to blow that house down.
After the Tralee match I commented here that I had rarely seen so much holding off the ball as I witnessed that.day. The referee mostly ignored it. I cannot remember who he was. I hope that is not allowed to happen the next day. Both teams are loaded with terrific players. Let them display those skills the next day rather than resorting to dreary, negative tactics. If that materialises I expect a win. A dog fight never suits us.

Any word on the Templenoe Gavin? He looked a fantastic prospect in the first 2 league matches until he broke his wrist. Not in the subs for Sunday.

Crowly is the only player with the physical requirements to compete with Comer but I don’t think he has the defensive instincts to keep him quiet on Sunday. Hard to know what attitude Galway will bring to the table for the for the opening twenty minutes of this game having witnessed the Blitzkrieg visited on Cork in theMunster final. I think Walsh will be very cautious for a good portion if not all of the opening half. Both teams have greatly improved since our last meeting in Tralee and I can only hope that we have a better strategy for the blanket than we showed that night.
It will be very interesting to see the inside six against a defensive set up as they will be tested in every possible way but we have some excellent options off the bench to change the attack options which may we’ll be needed on Sunday if they go total Jimmy in their setup. I feel we should get out on the right side of this one but it is a game that could go right down to the wire as the Galway forwards will hurt us I’d they get good ball so our objective should be a continued the hard press to cut out quality ball into the likes of Walsh and comer and create as much havoc in their side of the field to lessen their enthusiasm to commit to total attack.

Donncha on the bench also Slightly surprised at that. I had kind of figured that he wasn't coming back at this stage. No place for Fionn in the 26 again. To be honest, the captaincy situation is becoming a bit farcical.

I totally agree with you and are very disappointed with his omission. Another man who looked very good in the league and now is not even on the match day panel is Daithi Casey. Everyone on here thinks our bench is strong but I just don't see it. Looking at it we only have Burns and Barry John Keane (who blows very hot and cold) as a players who can make in impact. Darran O'Sullivan and Kieran Donaghy are past it. We also don't have any midfield cover. In my opinion our 3rd and 4th best subs aren't on the match day panel!

Tadhg Morley could well be picking up Comer. He's just as powerful these days as Comer and has plenty pace. As for the rest who knows but in the past 10/15 years we've marked specific players not positions.
Fellas here grumbling about this player or that player or his brother or his mother not being on the bench.
None of us know what's happening in training or who is doing what. So let the management pick the squad on what they see. Well probably need every single player in the top 30 or more by the end of this season given the nature of the competition. Time will tell.
Kerry fans are a pain. We're never bloody happy it seems. Hammer the Langers and it's doom. Blood a ton of new players and it's doom. Go defensive and it's doom, go attacking and it's bloody doom. Are lads ever happy I wonder. Only for an amazing Dublin team we'd have another 3/4 in the bag by now.
If we're good enough well win and if we're not we won't. How about that.
Up The Kingdom.

Im a bit mystified about Gavin Crowley myself but when you think of 3 games in 3 weeks potentially 4 with an semi final on Aug 11/12 then I'd imagine all those lads will feature at some point.

Galway forwards, Comer, Walsh and Burke are good when they get quality ball. Therefore it is up to the Kerry half forwards and midfielders to ensure that no quality ball goes into the Galway forwards. That is what Dublin does so well. You then do not have to worry about the mark-ups. If there is quality ball going into the Galway forwards, just check the source. That is where the changes have to be made. Don’t be forever blaming the man-marker e.g. Crokes V Nemo and Kerry V Cork.
