Gearoid McInerney wont be at CHB in the extra time... massive chance for Clare now.

Replay is on the Sunday in Thurles. Croke park is unavailable as the Dubs are playing their home match of the super 8s there.

Why not play that in Hyde Park or Parnell Park. FFS Because the association has to pander to their cash cow- 2 home super 8s games and a home semi final & final. It's not the Dubs this time round. The U20'S All-Ireland Football final is on in Croke Park at the same time as the hurling replay. Still could've put it on the Bank Holiday Monday.

Makes a mockery yet again of the whole croke park is not Dublins home ground argument.
I believe this was Clare's first game in croke park since 2013, I am sure they would have loved another opportunity to play there.

Thurles holds what ...45000.
56000 at todays game.
Why not have a double header with u20 football and have a full house.
The dubs game is a dead rubber with no consequence. That could be played anywhere.... Limerick for example.

But shur it wouldn't be fair on Dublin if they didn't get their home game like everyone else the group. Shur wouldn't it distort the whole group.................!!!!!!!!

The hurling is something else. Only about 2% of football games reach the same level. Mainly Dublin v Mayo & Dublin v Kerry over the past 5-6 years.

Will Clare get a better chance?
David Burke, Gearoid McInerney and Joe Canning not on the pitch and Clare flash in a goal at the start of the second period of extra time.
Great character shown by Galway to fight with their fingernails and Daithi Burke shows real leadership to set up their final point that looked like the winner.
Lots of mistakes and misses but this says as much about the intensity of the exchanges as much as anything.
Shanaher will probably start the next day and this a huge plus for them to have him back after his cruciate injury.
I though the ref was hard enough on Clare today at times.
Games like today as as much about character and resilience as anything.
The last time Limerick played is a semifinal it was in a monsoon which KK won by a point.
Wouldn't a Limerick v Clare final be some spectacle!

Only 4 games were due for Croker in 2018. The Leinster final, the two semi finals and the final. Its not asking too much to play semi finals and the final in Croker to facilitate those wanting to see the game. Is there not some obligation to premium ticket holders to play semi finals in Croker. Whats on in Croker on the monday of the august weekend?

Nothing on in Croker on the Monday I believe, disappointing for the clare players in particular. Playing in Croke park is something they will not get to do many times in their careers.

I always suspected that Cork was a football county! Seriously, living close to the Kerry/Limerick border and having a lot of relatives in that county, Limerick has always been my hurling county. I am delighted for them. One has to feel sorry for Cork though but they seemed to run out of ideas and fit bodies in the latter stages.

These matches kind of defy analysis. Exactly. I don't think i will sleep at all tonight so wired am i after that. Todays game was far more cerebral with a lot of science and planned attacking ploys. There had been a Quaid in goals for Limerick for as long as i can remember and I thought the current keeper was Man of the match today. He ran the first half like a quarter back with his puckout. I suppose it came down to Limerick having better subs in the finish. I would love to know who Limericks fitness trainer is. They were still flying at the finish while Cork were gone. For 30e to stand on the terrace today i feel that i should have paid a bit more for that. If it went to a replay, it would have been on the August bank holiday Monday. Hopefully now they will play Clare v Galway on that day. There was over 71000 there today. People want to see and witness spectacles like todays.

Kerry v Mayo 2014 Limerick. Kerry v Cork 2015 Killarney. Kerry v Mayo 2017 Croke Park draw. Kerry v Monaghan 2018 Clones. Really good, high scoring football games in the championship that Kerry have been involved in off the top of my head over the past 5 seasons.

Hurling is amazing but a lot of people struggle to say that without having a pop at football.

Watching even the opening 20 minutes or so of yesterdays game is mesmerising. The skill and accuracy of the passes, some of them very long range, the ability of players from both sides to contest and control the ball in the air, the speed and movement. It was like they had rehearsed and choreographed every move in advance. I could not begin to understand the level of skill required to be able to do that. How many hours of practice does it take until you are able for that level?
Limerick's 1st strength was that they did not panic even when they fell behind towards the end of normal time. Shane Dowling was a crucial sub at that stage. In extra time they had the mental fortitude to go again and their bench was stronger than Cork's. Quaid's save was superlative. Well done to both teams and all the supporters who travelled.
I noted coach Joe O'Connor was in the team huddle for Limerick.

Roscommon and Armagh played a qualifier last month that was brilliant and it was a tantalising taste of the potential of football if played in the right spirit and approach.
Cork tried nothing mean spirited yesterday when 6 ahead and ten mins to go. The Cork hurlers always respect the game and i have always have great admiration for them.

I just heard that the GAA opted not to distribute tickets for the Galway and Clarereplay through the county boards, that all tickets are on sale online and in shops.
Seems like a crazy decision to me.

Limerick star Shane Dowling has opened up about how he's lost friends and relationships because of his dedication to hurling.
Dowling, who is preparing for Limerick's clash with Kilkenny on Sunday, says he reacts badly to losses, even going two days before being able to get out of bed after poor performances.
"Have I lost friends or have I lost relationships because of hurling? I have," said Dowling, who's part of Littlewoods Ireland's Style Of Play series with The Sports Chronicle.
"There's been some games down through the years where I haven't been able to get out of bed for two days.
"If I saw anyone else carry on like that I’d give them a slap and tell them not to be so stupid, but I just can’t switch that off.
"The way I act at times like that isn't right but it's just the way I am."
One setback which Dowling has had to come to terms with is being left out of Limerick teams.
While he came to admire former manager John Allen, he was devastated by Allen's decision to drop him in 2013.
"I took that very hard at the time.
"Growing up I was never a sub on any team I had ever played for so, at the time, John Allen was the demon, the big bad wolf.
"We played Tipperary in the first round in Munster. I wasn't in the starting 15 and I remember driving home and pulling in around the back of the petrol station near the ground and breaking down for over an hour in my car.
"I genuinely thought my inter-county career was over. I was devastated."
He recovered to play a memorable role off the bench in the 2013 Munster final but being benched is something he's had to deal with again this year, following on from Na Piarsaigh's run to the All-Ireland final.
With his father involved in the club since its foundation 50 years ago, the loss to Cuala in March hit him hard.
"I still can't really talk too much about losing this year's final to Cuala. That will sit with me forever.
"It was the saddest day of my sporting life. It hit me hard and still does. We could have - and should have - won the first day.
"It was sickening because the club means so much to me. It just killed me – that’s all I can say about it still."
A health scare where his mother was struck down by a freak bout of pancreatitis last year helps the Raheen-based pharmacy manager keep his sport in perspective.
"That scared me. I remember Dad ringing me in work. I got straight into the car and drove up.
"We didn’t know whether she was going to make it.
"I’ve a niece that’s two this year, very attached to her Nana. It hit me: what if she’s not going to be able to spend time with her grandchild?
"I'd just bought my first house. There was a chance Mam would never even see me in it.
"Thankfully she made a full recovery, but it was a tough week. I had a few sleepless nights travelling up and down the road.
"Right now, hurling defines me, but only when everything else is right. If you don’t have a good career, good friends and the support of your family, hurling is irrelevant: Happy player off the pitch, better player on the pitch."

If Quaid hadnt made that great save near the end of normal time to save Limerick , big questions would surely have been asked about why Shane Dowling was not introduced earlier.
He came on with 10 minutes to go and when they were 6 points down. With his first touch he landed a free from 75 yards. He then landed a point and was fouled twice for frees that brought points. He was hauled down for the penalty and he showed leadership after the game in post match interviews.
He missed a free for na Piarsaigh to put them 4 points up in injury time the first day v Cuala.
From the puckout Cuala equalised with the last act of the game.
Cuala won the replay.
This penalty should wipe that memory away

If the 50 most skillful hurlers were selected I doubt very much that Jonathan Glynn would be in it. Yet he is the main reason why Clare didn't beat Galway last Sunday. A complete wrecking ball who knows his limitations and looks to lay it off to more accurate colleagues. He was under nearly every puckout due to his height advantage made Sheana Morey. He has the competitive appetite of Donaghy. A savage competitor.

I was delighted for Limerick and if Galway don't pick up their level of performance in the final I think Limerick can just about do it. Both games incredible, I never expected Clare to stay in it, they looked a busted flush the last few years but here they are again, in with a shot of a final.
