When are Clare playing limerick 19th of May - Tipp v Waterford game on the other side is on the same day. Given the league positions of the four teams, it would be a fairly big shock if both Clare and Tipp don't progress.

Clare/Limerick up next weekend. Not sure where it's on but you'd have to fancy Clare in this one.

Clare/Limerick up next weekend. Not sure where it's on but you'd have to fancy Clare in this one. In the championship from 2010 to 2017 inclusive, Division 4 teams have only beaten Division 2 teams on 4 occasions. Division 4 teams played 160 games in that time period (not sure how many games were against Division 2 opposition). Carlow (in Division 4 this year) did beat Louth (Division 2 this year) but both will be in Division 3 next year as Carlow got promoted and Louth got relegated. When you look at their relative leagues results this year - Clare finishing 3rd in Division 2 and Limerick 6th in Division 4, it's very hard to see a shock here.

Killarney way too big for most games bar Munster final and maybe super 8 games? I prefer Tralee (better atmosphere with smaller crowd) but each to his own. I think Tralee needs to get more championship games going forward to justify it's renovation.

Comprehensive win for Clare this evening. Full-time Limerick 0-14 Clare 1-23 Two weeks to the start of our opening game in 2018 Championship. I’m sure there are strongly held opinions on what we can hope for and expect. Thoughts on the starting 15?

Think Clare will put it up to us but we should win with something to spare....looking like a Tipp Kerry final with the final set to be in Tipp as far as I know...

Clare are a well-drilled side that are improving incrementally every year. In spite of that, it would be a big upset if Kerry do not beat them in Killarney on the 3rd. I think that our supporters will want to see that some things have changed and issues have bedeviled our performances for years are being addressed. If that is visible then I would look forward to the championship with optimism.
Tipp must have a decent chance of turning over Cork in Thurles, especially with Kerrigan and Powter out through injury.

Reading various reports seemed like a decent enough performance from Clare against Limerick, apart from a patch around both sides of half-time. They had 13 different scorers notching 1-23, with 1-17 of it coming from play. However Limerick's defence in the league was not exactly impressive conceding a total of 11-71 in 6 league games (an average of 17 points a game) Limerick also conceded 2 goals in 5 out of the 6 league games they played, which against other Division 4 sides is not a good sign.
Clare's league results this year were as follows
Clare 1-12 Cavan 2-09 Meath 0-21 Clare 0-07 Clare 0-11 Tipperary 0-11 Down 1-10 Clare 1-12 Clare 2-12 Roscommon 2-19 Cork 0-12 Clare 0-14 Clare 3-12 Louth 1-11
Scored a total of 7-80 (101 total, 14.4 avg) , conceded a total of 6-93 (111 total 15.8)
3 wins against the 3 bottom teams (Louth, Down and Cork), 2 draws against the sides who finished 2nd (Cavan) and 4th (Tipperary) and 2 loses against 1st (Roscommon) and 5th (Meath)
Limerick seem to be in a bit of bother off-field, given their manager was considering forfeiting the match due to an administrative error by the county board with the team submitted to Croke Park and crossed wires leading to no grub after training for players during the week. Also they did score 0-14 which was their 2nd highest total of the year, which considering they were coming up against Division 4 sides, doesn't exactly paint the most impressive picture of the Clare defence. He also mentioned that 53 club players turned down approaches to play with the county team this year, including 18 who played last year.

Clare will fancy their chances of causing an upset against a somewhat inexperienced Kerry side who might not have their eye on the ball.

Clare are a decent side these days and will have to be taken seriously. Anyone who was in Ennis last year won't need reminding. It seems like forever since Kerry last played.

If we have learned anything from last year and the league just gone, Shane Enright and Brian Kelly can not be given jerseys this year, I've nothing against the guys personally but they're out of their depth at intercounty.

Only a few weeks out from this match. To be honest I am struggling to raise any sort of enthusiasm for the championship both hurling and football so far this year. I don't know if its the introduction of the round robin in the hurling and the super 8's in the football but or not. Maybe a big match in round 1 of the qualifiers between Tyrone and Mayo might shake it into life.
I'll be honest. I haven't a clue what team we will put out or what style we will play. People will peddle the old nonsense that Eamonn is keeping his powder dry in Munster and won't want to show his hand to the dubs etc. Like we will magically unveil some tactical master class when needed. We have never really unveiled anything in the all Ireland series that we haven't already seen in Munster. Clare ran through us last year as well. Ditto Cork and Galway not to mention Mayo on both days.
I have no idea who our goalkeeper will be.
If we are going to play all the young / inexperienced lads in the backs I hope we have some sort of system in place where they won't be hung out to dry against stronger more seasoned opponents in 1 v 1's.
Below is the team I would like to see. Some of the calls are debatable but, I would like to see us try new things / players as going back to the same old players when they haven't been good enough in the last few years is ludicrous.
1. Murphy
2 Shannahan 3 Morley 4 Foley
5 Murphy 6 Gavin Crowley 7 B O Beaglaoich
8 Moran 9 Barry
10 Burns 11 O'Shea (Jack Savage If playing U20) 12 O'Brien
13 Clifford ( Dathi Casey if playing U20) 14 Geaney 15 O'Donoghue
16 B Kelly 17 Maher (Midfield Cover) 18 Donaghy (If change of style needed) 19 Buckley (Midfield / half forward ) 20 Darran (Injection of pace) 21 BJK (Scoring forward / pace) 22 P Crowley (Half backline cover) 23 D Walsh (Half forward line cover) 24 F Fitz (Half back / full back line cover)
The bench is hard to pick as due to the demands of the modern game and the six subs / black card nearly everyone one there has to be somewhat flexible. Ideally you want at least 2 options for every line for every line of the field. You could easily mess around with it as you can adjust the on field players as well.
I would start Foley and Shanahan as two man markers in the full back line with Morely minding the house as the clare corner forward drifts out. He as played full back underage and for templenoe. Let foley find his feet at this lever before moving him in to full back.
Gavin Crowley is a big man who can man the center. Not only that he can cause problems going forward. Let him give it his all before being replaced.
Midfield picks itself. I'm not convinced about Moran but, as in I think he has been poor since 14 but, he is prob our next most mobile player. Ideally I would have him at centre forward with O'Shea coming out from full forward to give the sweepers something to do.
I have probably made some glaring omissions.
