Maher has played a few club games already this season.
That report makes it sound like he is out injured.
If its a case that the management have decided that Maher and Donnchadh aren't part of their plans then they should just come out and say it.

Whatever about forwards, we're not exactly over-subscribed with top-drawer midfielders. It's hard to imagine that Maher in particular would be discarded if he was fit. Maybe he's just had enough of it? |

The concern is that there are now 3/4 standards of team with The Dubs ahead of us all, then you have say Mayo and Galway in Connaught, Tyrone, Donegal and Monaghan in Ulster, and is it ourselves alone in Munster? That's the bones of the Super 8s. Of the remainder I suppose you have the emerging ones like Roscommon, Tipp, Armaghm Down and what about the Rebels - then the re are teams that get no look in.
Setting out a team for the League is easier as you meet teams of a similar standard but the Championship presents varying standards, at the outset anyway. The only consolation is that every manager has to face the same challenge and sure they probably put out their best team and hope they come on a bit for each game.
Now I know this will upset some but the dominant factor is money and the better you are the more sponsorship you command and so the better the team gets while weaker ones fade away more. Ok there are exceptions but the GAA as an amateur organisation had largely failed to put a dent in this issue. I really feel for counties that have no real chance of Silver and the solution I suggest time and again is have say 4 groups of 8 teams in The Championship, with the 4th group consisting of those who got knocked out first in a given year. That is really 4 Super 8s if you like, and weaker teams would benefit as well as well as having a realistic chance of playing Croker each year against teams of the same standard.

Normally a game like this would be an opportunity to give a few young lads a run out. I don't this is required in this situation. More likely that a few more experienced heads might get a game e.g. Buckley and griffin and probably Kelly also.

As I said above, what Tyrone did to Mayo will now determine how we set out our stall and Tyrone will try to prove they can still topple us. They have some nice young players coming through although I'd fancy us to prevail if we go all out and the selection will be an interesting blend of youth and experience. |

I hope we still go with youth in the last round and the early stages of the championship. We can't rely on Moran, Maher, Donnchadh, Donaghy and so on all the time. We need to get youth into the team. We have won the last 4 minor championships, rule at schools level and in the junior championship. Surely we can build a team from that?
We should have started earlier with that, but surely we afford to try more things in the last round now.

I know that this seems a crazy thing to say but I think Kerry are in a better position that they were in 2017 even after winning the league.

What’s the story with Maurice Fitzgerald’s haven’t seen him with the team sconce the mayongame didn’t see him go up to the stand yesterday either it’s dissapointing killian Spillane isn’t getting more game time he’s surely better than Barry John I don’t no why management persist with him the communication between management and players is very poor as eamon tells hassett to go in to give instructions every 2 minuites that’s a poor sign of a tea. Heard Andrew Barry left the panel also how come Tim Murphy is always in fitzmaurices ear he has an ear piece in talking to lads in the stand should that not be selectors job like Padraig Corcoran or hassett

Maurice was up in the stand with Sheehy at the Galway game, was on crutches, so must have suffered an injury

Chief among those suggestions has been that Mark Griffin could do a job at center half back or maybe even midfield.
As the Tyrone game is a dead rubber – effectively nothing to lose, why not give Mark a shot at one of those positions? If it works, we’ll all be happy; if it doesn’t, we’ll all be wise!

He remains a good squad player until he stops scoring or somebidy else starts scoring more consistently. I wqould love to see some of the other names being floated suceed but some have not been convincing from the few opportunities they have had so far - good effort but the end product short of what it needs to be with some wild kicking and poor shot selection or lacking in tracking back.... |

Are Tyrone the French rugby of football this year? Started badly and then all of a sudden they seem to throw the shackles off and play lovely football and the next minute they go back to 15 men behind the ball.
You never know what Tyrone is going to show up.
In my opinion a team short of real marquee forwards or backs and it looks at times as if they have 2 midfielders, a goalkeeper and 12 scoring halfbacks.
Given the squad rotation by Harte this year, at times changing 12 players from game to game in the McKenna cup, it looks clear like they want to develop a team where the number on their backs is just a number and where every man that comes on does the same thing as the last guy in any position needed.
They slot in and out of positions constantly and are causing teams real headaches.
They have only beaten Kildare by a point, but against Donegal and Mayo they were imperious.
They succumbed to Dublin, Galway and Monaghan, just like us. re we at the same level as Tyrone?
I'm afraid that they are the team that can run at you all day and we ae the team that can't stop teams running at us.
I do hope we win, we don't need to win, but don't think we will

Predicting a battle royale in omagh on sunday perfect preperation for the champinship. Tyrone looked gpod against a terrible mayo. Be a good test be interesting to see what way we set up on tyrone. The way i see it if you limit there two big players donnelly and harte you are half way there. Crowley and murphy respectively are the men id use (especially if sos is missing)

It is a shame that Gavin Crowley has missed so many games
A lot of people are clamouring for Mark Griffin at CHB the next day which is fair enough. Howeve, like Brendan O'Sullivan I am not sure about Mark anymore.
I wonder why Riobaird O'Se has not got a run at midfield where we seem to be shorthamded , particulalrly with the doubt over Anthony Maher.
Adrian Spillane is another man I find hard to assess.

I don't think mark griffin is any type of long term solution at no 6. Centre back is as much about reading a game and getting yourself in the right position than simply looking to take a guys head off or hit him with a big shoulder.

Looking at what David Clifford did to Cian O'Suliivan in a short space of time before they moved Cooper to mark him. Won every ball that came in high & low and kicked two points from play. It would seem Cian O'Sullivan hasn't the pace to man mark but can read the game like a book sweeping in the pocket. Is there any player in Kerry that could read the game in a similar way to O'Sullivan from 6 or a little deeper? Griffins best position is potential at wing back. Probably worth a punt in Omagh.

Agree totally about Geaney and Clifford getting a rest. Leave Seanie Shea at home irrespective of how his injury is. Keep Murphy in goals. I'd like to see Jason Foley mark this Brennan fella. Tom Sullivan and Mathew Flaherty to get a good run in the backs too. Get 45 minutes into David Moran's legs. Ditto Mark Griffin. Have a look at Eanna O Connor to see how he handles what the Tyrone lads will do to him. Give Killian Spillane a run up front too. |

Given that it is over two months to the next Kerry game, I don't see any great need to rest fellas. I know there will be club fixtures the next few weeks.
We should treat this game seriously and pick the team accordingly. For the young guys, this is all part of the experience. I would like to see tom o Sullivan, griffin, Moran come in.
Steven o Brien also should play.

I was at 3 Dún na nGall games this season, including v Tyrone. Unless I am being unduly optimistic I stick my to my original gut feel of a blistering Ulster Final rematch, and the sun mightn't be the greatest source of heat!
Now back to us v Tír Eoghain - Donegal had 'em on the backfoot for the entire Q1, now I don't know if it was the Auld Chestnut that is M Murhy's (proper) position, and consequent if understandable impatience (he is bigger than me!!!) that had him come out looking for ball, and while in Q1 Tyrone couldn't score in the proverbial, but the game changed in or around 20 mins and the screw tightened until the clock danced at 70. Now remember that our minimum margin win v Dún na nGall could be reduced if Nathan Mullins' feet didn't try to defy gravity.
I sense a big big big game here, it will be the biggest game on League Sunday. Then again, who did I quote as saying, "to predict is hard but predicting the future is impossible". Bull* - Ballythefireside says "predicting is easy, getting it right isn't."
For those who forget to put back the big hand, the patch of Tír Eoghain that is Páirc Uí Éilí will be an interesting place to be at 4pm an Domhnaigh seo chugainn!
