Jack Barry and Barry O'Sullivan playing midfield together for UCD today. Can only bode well for the future having them play together at college level

Having all these lads playing Sigerson is great. I will always remember Paul Geaneys leadership for ucc in the final of 2014. Their opponents got a run on them towards the end and UCC couldnt break it. Geaney goes to midfield and signals to Bryan Kelly that the next kickout is to go in his direction. The leap and the fetch by Paul swung the momentum back and UCC went on to win it. That was against Jordanstown up in their home patch of I remember correctly- he put on a masterclass that day in composure

Sean O'Shea and David Clifford both missing important Sigerson games this week which suggests that they will be given a rest for the Monaghan game. Would like to see Adrian Spillane in as he started for UCC, maybe give Daithi Casey a run from the start as well as Killian Spillane.
Midfield should see some rotation as Jack Barry and Barry O'Sullivan will be out again next week in Sigerson. Brendan O'Sullivan to get another chance although his ball winning has been less than impressive around midfield. Seems more suited to half forward line. Other position will depend on fitness updates etc.
Hopefully Gavin White returns this week or the next. Think that he adds serious gas and attacking threat to the half back line as well as being reliable defensively. I'm still not convinced by Matthew Flaherty defensively as he seems to get easily turned and pushed past. Lovely player on the ball though so might grow into that.
1. Shane Murphy 2. Shane Enright 3. Jason Foley (depending on rest/availability of others) 4. Brian O'Beaglaoich (depending on rest/availability of others) 5. Paul Murphy 6. Gavin Crowley (carrying hand injury) 7. Ronan Shanahan (unless Sigerson takes precedent) 8. Brendan O'Sullivan 9. An other 10. Michael Burns 11. Daithi Casey 12. Adrian Spillane/Stephen O'Brien 13. Barry John Keane 14. Paul Geaney 15. Killian Spillane
Looks light enough panel wise but this bodes well for panel depth come championship.

The following are all the Kerry lads in the senior panel who were potentially involved in Sigerson games this week and how many minutes each of them played. The only one who was travelling a longer than normal distance due to Sigerson games was Ronan Shanahan.
1 Gavin Crowley 30 ITT 2 Ronan Shanahan 60 DIT 3 Eanna O'Conchuir 60 DCU 4 Barry O’Sullivan 60 UCD 5 Jack Barry 60 UCD 6 Brian O Seanachain 5 UCD 7 Jason Foley 60 UCC 8 Brian Ó Beaglaioch 60 UCC 9 Andrew Barry 60 UCC 10 Adrian Spillane 60 UCC 11 Killian Spillane 60 UCC 12 Sean O'Shea 0 UCC 13 David Clifford 0 ITT 14 Tom Leo O'Sullivan 0 UCD
According to reports Sean O'Se, David Clifford and Gavin Crowley are all carrying knocks. I'm sure some of the other lads as well. The management team will be talking to them all and monitoring them closely and I'd imagine that will be a key consideration in terms of the team selected from the Monaghan game.
This was the list of absentees posted on the 16th of January.
Short term (2-3 weeks) Tadhg Morley, Fionn, Tom O'Sullivan, Mark Griffin, Adrian Spillane, Kevin McCarthy, Darran, Mikey Geaney, Eanna O'Conchuir & Brian O' Beaglaoich
Medium Term (4-6 weeks) Killian, Crowley, Gavin White, Maher, David Moran, Buckley, Donnchadh Walsh, Conor Geaney & Donaghy.
Some of the short-term lads are already back - the Ghaeltacht 2 and Adrian Spillane who lined out with UCC. Might well see some of the other "short-termers" come into the reckoning. JamesO has joined the injured list and I would be very surprised if he is involved against Monaghan.
Of the 4 teams left in the semi-finals, only UCD have any Kerry senior lads involved. Their semi is in Ulster next Tuesday.

By my count Monaghan had 5 lads who played Sigerson this week. All 5 of these have appeared for Monaghan this year.
Ryan McAnespie UUJ 60 Conor McCarthy UCD 60 Fintan Kelly DCU 60 Dessie Ward DCU 60 Micheal Bannigan DCU 29
Conor McCarthy ended up with 5 points, 4 from frees and Ryan McAnespie bagged a goal. I'm imagine that Bannigan might still be injured/carrying a knock as he was subbed off in the 29th minute.

He played well both years I suppose.

Surely David Clifford & Sean O'Shea wont travel this weekend. Midfield concern for the selectors with Barry & O'Sullivan still going strong with UCD and the established midfielders unavailable.

I think we are really regretting no longer having Tommy Walsh on he panel. Will we see Jack and Andrew Barry in the middle on Sunday?

Surely not. Wouldn't add up to be fit for a league game just 3/4 days after not been deemed fit for a championship game.

Great to see Casey get a run out. With players coming back, he probably needs to make an impression soon. No change at midfield. I am not sure Brendan o Sullivan is seen as a contender here.

Good luck to the lads on Sunday. Fantastic to see Andrew Barry being blooded. What a positive league it's been so far in that regard. Delighted too that Daithi Casey is getting a run from the start. My suspicion though is that deep down the management don't see him as anything more than a panel player. I might be wrong here. Let's hope for another morale boosting win on the road. Glad to see Ronan in the fullback line. He needs to rebound from the sending off last week. 5 Tralee men im the team

I am sure there are others. I hope he does make the panel.

Always a tinge of excitement when this new team has been named over the past few week. Looking forward to seeing Andrew Barry at 6. Good to see Casey & Savage in. I flagged this double change last week before the Mayo game for O'Shea & Clifford, we'll say no more........................
Probably a stronger bench than last week. Another win on the road would be great. Monaghan will be more defensive than Mayo and probably more physical also.
16. Brian Kelly Killarney Legion 17. Brendan O’Sullivan Valentia 18. Matthew Flaherty Dingle 19. Éanna Ó Conchúir An Ghaeltacht 20. Cormac Coffey Kerins O’Rahillys 21. Killian Spillane Templenoe 22. Remember that management have the best part of 50 competing for a place in the championship panel (probably mid 30's) not to mention a match day 26. An awful lot at stake for any new/fringe player who gets a run in the league. A lot of these lads will be disappointed come Championship. They need to grasp their chance when it comes round.

Is that right about Iniskeen only having a 3,500 capacity? After 10,000 in Killarney and 11,000 in Castlebar it could be interesting Sunday.

Given the attendances so far this year, it seems ridiculous having it in a ground with that sort of capacity. Is a tight pitch the overriding consideration here, or is Monaghan's support that small?

I hope Monaghan are up for this and we get a keen contest as we need to see these Kerry players challenged.
Donegal gave a fine account of themselves and were unlucky to leave Tralee with nothing.
Mayo were so out of the zone v Kerry it was a joke. All those scores from turnovers do not happen against a clued in Mayo. The Regan incident made Mayo cross and they came into it more after that. I have never seen Aiden OShea so off the pace.
Mayo beat Monaghan the previous week so what that says about Monaghan is anyone's guess.

All four Kerry and Monaghan games so far this year have been close affairs - a single point separating the teams in three of them. We were incredibly flat in the corresponding match last year but I feel it will not be more of the same this time. Both teams won their last two away games against each other so we are due another one and we won comfortably enough the last time we played in Inniskeen. Despite the two wins so far there will be pressure to perform for a Championship place so complacency is not an option.
Also interesting to see two Na Gaeil players start. As Jack Barry was the first from that club to play for the Kerry seniors this must be the first time they have two on the starting team.

Health and safety concerns limit attendance at 3750. There was plenty of room the last time but it was later in the season when we were safe and they were heading for the drop. I think there will be much more interest this time so early arrival is advisable.
