So the new season kicks off today against Clare. Not a while lot of new faces. Is Pa Kelly playing this year does anyone know? Once again no one from outside of Noth Kerry even given a look it. Hopefully things will go better this year as there will have been a full winter under the same management unlike the last few years

Very good interview with John Griffin www.irishexaminer.com/sport/g...ng-465419.htmlHighlights a lot of the issues with hurling in Kerry. As iv said before IMO the biggest issue is the lack of admission from clubs in both North and South Kerry. Many of the things he says would be true of some clubs around the county

While Cork were very poor it was still a great result. Only 2/3 years ago that sam Cork team would have beaten Kerry. Some great scoring, i would say about 1-15 from play?

Closer to a 3rd Cork XV than 2nd I reckon, but a real fillip all the same. Remember Kerry were short a few as well and a few good lads at that. The Joe McDonagh cup would be a great win for Kerry in its inaugural season. A far stronger competition than any previous Christy Ring competition. Hope the win last Sunday will give the efforts a real impetus

Bad result today. Just didn;t get going. Can't really afford to drop too many more points from the games that are left now

Very good & composed performance against Meath on Sunday. Good to see a decent crowd in for the hurling game. I was a bit disappointed with Meath. They had run Westmeath very close the previous week, but didn't seem up for the fight on Sunday. Maybe it was the very cold weather. Tough game coming - away to Westmeath. It would be great to win and get into the final.

CIT's Intermediate side won Intermediate Munster Colleges last night and go on to play DCU in the AIF.
They were captained from full back by the lone Kerryman on the panel: Billy Lyons from Causeway.

What happened in St.Brendans game last weekend Both St.Brendans and Kilmoyley refused to come out after half time. I think it was because it was such a dirty game that the referee failed in trying to control.

Not a good start at the weekend. Will have to pick up wins in most of the rest of the games. Laois losing does leave room but will be tough to finish in the top two nwp

Grewt win to get back on track at the weekend. Puts us right back in the mix of things again. I wasn't at the match as i was away and thought Twitter would be my best bet to keep up to date with it. It's quite a bad sign that i was being kept up to date by the Laois page and not the Kerry one, think it only had 3/4 tweets for the whole game. Also heard there was no more than 200 at the game

well a great win at the weekend to lift the mood and the spirits
next game is crucial to stay in the hunt for a final position, be a bit concerned about our panel strength of we ship a few injuries
plenty of young talent in the team - Shane Conway, Barry Mahoney, Jack Goulding but if one or two of the more experienced lads is out we are in bother
nevertheless there must be a spring in their step heading to the next game, hopefully better crowd to support them

Will need a win today to be in with any sort of chance of making the final. Strong team named so should be good enough to win. But would have said the same last year against Meath so can't be sure

Carlow rising continues with impressive McDonagh Cup victory Updated / Saturday, 2 Jun 2018 17:06 0
The Carlow rising continued in O’Moore Park as the county’s hurlers recorded an impressive and crucial 10-point win over Laois in the Joe McDonagh Cup.
The win puts Carlow within touching distance of a final appearance and ends Laois’s hopes in this year’s competition.
Inspired by brilliant forwards Chris Nolan and John Michael Nolan, Carlow defied their underdog status to claim a fully-deserved win.
The visitors got off to a dream start, with a goal from Edward Byrne after three minutes. With Chris Nolan, Denis Murphy (two frees) and John Michael Nolan adding points, they led 1-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.
A handful of Stephen Maher ‘65s got back in the mix and a penalty from Enda Rowland had them back within two by the 25-minute mark.
Carlow responded well to that Laois goal with Chris Nolan adding a couple of points, the pick of them a sideline cut. But Laois hit the last three points of the half to go in level at the break, 1-9 apiece.
That was as good as it got for Laois though. Carlow got the first three points of the second half and a Diarmuid Byrne goal midway through the half put them eight ahead and out of sight.
From there there was no doubting the result and although Ryan Mullaney got a late Laois goal, Carlow added on a string of points - with Paul Coady, the Nolans and Jack Kavanagh all to the fore.
Carlow now play Westmeath in their final group game where a win would guarantee a final place on June 30.
Scorers - Carlow: JM Nolan 0-6 (1 sc), D Murphy 0-5 (5f), C Nolan 0-5, E Byrne 1-2, P Coady 0-3, D Byrne 1-0, J Kavanagh 0-2, J Doyle 0-1, K McDonald 0-1 Laois: S Maher 0-8 (5f, 3 ‘65), R Mullaney 1-3E Rowland 1-0, W Dunphy, C Taylor, M Kavanagh and N Foyle 0-1 each
Carlow: B Tracey; A Corcoran, P Doyle, M Doyle; D Byrne, D English, R Kelly; J Murphy, K McDonald; JM Nolan, P Coady, E Byrne; J Doyle, D Murphy, C Nolan. Subs: R Smithers for D Murphy (53), S Murphy for Nolan (70)
Laois: E Rowland; J Phelan, L Bergin, C Stapleton; P Lawlor, M Whelan, R Mullaney; C Taylor, J Ryan; B Conroy, N Foyle, P Purcell; C Comerford, S Maher, W Dunphy. Sub: P McCane for Comerford (HT), C Dwyer for Taylor (53) , M Kavanagh for Foyle (64), J Kelly for Mullaney (70), A Corby for Purcell (70)

Either a Laois win or an Antrim win would have left the door open, but now the best we can expect is to join Carlow on 6 pts, but they beat us in the head-to-head. It would be nice to finish with a win next week in Antrim.

Kerry step on the gas to battle past 14-man Meath Updated / Saturday, 2 Jun 2018 17:21 0 Padraig Boyle helped Kerry to a hardfought win Padraig Boyle helped Kerry to a hardfought win
By Fergal Lynch
Kerry's third-quarter burst proved decisive as they secured their Joe McDonagh Cup status with a narrow victory over 14-man Meath in Pairc Tailteann.
Meath were reduced to 14 men in the 29th minute when Alan Douglas picked up a second yellow card, but they were very much in the game, leading 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time.
However after the resumption Kerry pulled away to put themselves in an unassailable position, 0-16 to 0-9 clear.
Meath did launch a late recovery to close the gap to 0-14 to 0-18, but were denied a goal when Jack Regan's close-range free was stopped on the line.
When Joey Keena closed the gap further Meath went close to salvaging a draw deep into injury-time, but Sean Geraghty's flicked effort cleared the crossbar as Kerry survived.
Both sides looked nervous in an error-strewn opening half and scores were difficult to come by with six of the first nine coming from placed balls.
It was Kerry who opened the scoring in the third minute with Shane Conway on target after James O'Connor was fouled, but a minute later Meath were level when Adam Gannon pointed and after Paddy Conneely was fouled he recovered sufficiently to give the hosts the lead for the first time from the resultant free.
A Conway '65' and a disputed point from Jack Goulding which the umpire didn't raise his flag for restored Kerry's lead, 0-3 to 0-2.
Conneely restored parity before Douglas picked up his first yellow card for a high tackle on Mikey Boyle in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Martin Stackpoole converted the free from his own 65-metre line to level it up for the fourth time and that trend continued with Conneely (free) and Bryan Murphy, from inside his own 45-metre line, trading scores.
A massive score from Conneely was followed by an equally impressive sccore from Keith Keoghan as Meath opened up a two-point lead, 0-7 to 0-5, for the first time, but then Douglas saw red when he picked up a second yellow after a high shoulder challenge on John Buckley to leave Meath down to 14 men after just 28 minutes.
The Meath response to that setback was to pull three points clear with James Kelly lofting over, but Kerry pulled one back before the break through Brendan O'Leary to close the gap to 0-6 to 0-8 at half-time.
However after the resumption Kerry pulled clear with points from Padraig Boyle (four), Shane Conway (two), Brandon Barrett (two), Daniel Collins and Mikey Boyle moving them 0-16 to 0-9 clear.
Meath eventually settled and hit five of the next six scores with Conneely (three, two frees), Keena and Regan making it 0-14 to 0-17.
Conway ensured Meath had to go for goal late on with his sixth point and second from a free and while Regan and Geraghty both went close it was Kerry who survived to preserve their Joe McDonagh Cup status.
Scorers - Kerry: Shane Conway (0-6 two frees, two '65s'), Padraig Boyle (0-4), Martin Stackpoole (0-1 free), Bryan Murphy (0-1), Brandon Barrett (0-2), Daniel Collins (0-1), Brendan O'Leary (0-1), Mikey Boyle (0-1), Jack Goulding (0-1)
