Was the hurling changed to u-20 or has it remained as u-21? Hurling has remained @‘U-21, think it will revert to U-20 next season.

They must have nobody doing Construction in the Leaving: that finishes at 17:00.

I have seen only one match in Newcastlewest. It was an u21 match between Kerry and Limerick. It is a good few years , not sure of the precise year but as far as I can recall Colm Cooper and possibly Seamus Scannell were playing . I remember few details about the match except that Kerry won, narrowly I think. I do recall one aspect of the occasion. It was probably the most hostile environment I have ever experienced at a football match.
As soon as the ball was thrown in the Limerick supporters were spitting fire, baying for Limerick frees and bitterly reacting to any Kerry free. Every Kerry player's parentage was disparaged and of course the poor referee was lambasted relentlessly. As far as I can recall both sets of players behaved themselves but the Limerick supporters were , the ones in my neighbourhood at least , were like caged animals who could break free at any minute. I remember wondering at the time, and indeed still do, where all this animosity came from. I had not experienced it before or since at Kerry/Limerick matches. Can anybody recall that match?

I have a vague recollection of that game. Think Kerry won a low scoring game by a couple of points with gooch and Declan quill doing most of the damage. That might have been the year that Waterford beat us also.

What are the (realistic) expectations for this team given the loss of their two biggest scroing threats?

Win the All-Ireland I would have thought ‘OnlyKerry’. Had you heard something different?

What are the (realistic) expectations for this team given the loss of their two biggest scroing threats? I think that getting to the All Ireland final would be a big achievement - Dublin,( if we win Munster ) will be a big stumbling block - the loss of O’Shea & Clifford will probably be too much to absorb.

Diarmuid Connor, possibly the two Horans and o Grady from Castlegregory all sitting the leaving but as far as I know any of those doing construction on the day won’t be involved

Veteran. I think that game was 2004, shortly before the senior Munster Final against Limerick.
When is the team being named?

Ah Yes 2003, 2004 when the rivalry with Limerick was at its height. Those Munster Finals in 2004 were close affairs and could have easily gone the other way.
I do know of a number of u-20 players who are sitting the Leaving this year but I don't think it's fair or relevant to name them here. The point is that it's a bit daft to change age grades to supposedly help younger players, and then run off the competition in the middle of the Leaving.

That's it. In 2004 Cork beat us in Austin Stack Park when Gooch was 'injured' and Jack wouldn't let him play. Donaghy was midfield with Paddy Kelly and a few weeks later Paddy was midfield against Dublin in the quarter final.

Anyone know what sort of capacity of Newcastlewest has? I don't imagine there will be a massive crowd but in case the place is very small, might it be wise to try and get a ticket beforehand, if there are any?

I have been there a couple of times - it’s decent enough, should be no problem with capacity.

Jack says he has 8 leaving cert students in the panel. U20 schedule is madness. Crazy stuff. The leaving certs are now playing u20 rather than minor as before. A higher demand on 17 year olds. I'm not sure if the u 17 grade will capture the public imagination. Time will tell. Finally some of the best u 20 players are not playing.

Should win with a bit to spare Friday night? Strong enough panel, from a north kerry perspective, I can’t see Niall Collins making panel, Sweeney and foley to make it surely

Just looking at the impact the loss of Clifford and O'Shea is likely to have through the viewpoint of what they did with the minors in terms of scoring.
In 2017 David Clifford scored 8-41 (65 points in 6 games) with only 10 points of that coming from deadballs. In 2016 David Clifford scored 2-27 (33 points in 6 games) with only 8 points of that coming from deadballs. In 2016 Sean O'Shea scored 2-25 (31 points in 6 games) with only 10 points of that coming from deadballs.
In 2016 the team scored a total of 12-105 (141 points in 6 games) so O'Shea and Clifford were responsible for 45% of the total score. In 2017 the team scored a total of 12-105 (141 points in 6 games) so Clifford were responsible for 40% of the total score.
That's a serious amount of score taking ability to take out of a side, especially given the fact that such a large chunk of the scores were from play.

I don't know is anyone expecting to win the AI.

Kerrygold I have been told the same. Jack has fellows on the team that are not on their club teams in the lower divisions of the co. league.
