It was unbelievable. We had no game plan. Every player looked to be doing his own thing. No teamwork. What kind of training were they doing. We had good players on this team even without O'Shea and Clifford. Im sure some of them will be good seniors one day. It has to fall with Management. I'll tell you why, JOC has never ever used tactics ever. Tyrone 05 , Donegal 12, Dublin 11, Down 10, Galway 17 and today. The only tactical master plan he used was Donaghty on the square against longford and the high ball in on the Mayo full back line to Johnny Crowley in 2004 hardly earth shattering stuff.

Could have sworn that tactic was in 2008? When Kerry had a different manager? Todays result is a huge disappointment.

Name a tactic he used? Honestly? We simply had better players 9 times out of 10. But when we had to do something different IE play a counter attacking team or a mass defence team we never had a plan for that. In my opinion there are other coaches in Kerry that deserve a crack at it.

I agree Jack was poor on the line today but the players have to take alot of the responsibilitly. We missed 5 scorable frees, Kildare missed 1. We gifted Kildare a goal. We missed a great goal chance in the first half. Big margins in a 1 point game.

The animals are alive and well..........No complaints here once Kerry decided the two best u20 forwards in the country were more valuable to the senior setup. The big losers here are the u20 team. Must be a pain in the chops for JOC and his crew after all the work they put in all year. I'm surprised people are referencing last year. Kerry had no midfield without Mark 'Connor and the team subsequently fell apart trying to compensate. Lessons from the last two years, either have your best players or put up. Case closed.

If calling it as you honestly see it makes me an animal so be it. We are dealing players coming off multiple minor All Irelands.

I took a bit of flack for saying we looked badly set up and badly trained vs cork but it's telling that the pick of two untouchable minor teams couldn't give or collect simple hand passes today.
Noticeable that at half time our subs were doing sprints while the opposition were kicking balls around.
Maybe the coaching was no issue but boy did it look like they were badly coached in this game, against Cork and vs Galway last year.
If the problem is talent we're in big trouble looking at the senior line up for tomorrow.

Spot on, people referencing the winning minor teams without acknowledging the missing players in the u20s this year are not being fair. I have said this before but the impact that Clifford had on last years minor championship was ridiculous and renders any analysis of the rest of the team meaningless.

Completely, the situation must have been a shambles for JOC this year. Kildare are probably decent having beaten Dublin and contesting a minor semi final two years ago. Didn't get to see today's game but will do so during the week.

Jack doesn't get a pass here, he knew the story with the two lads from early on.. undoubtedly he could have done better but the assumption that somehow this team should be winning all around them bemuses me.

Disappointing but let's give credit where it's due, lads - Kildare were good, very good. Strong and athletic with a couple of really sharp forwards. They beat Dublin handily and you'd have to assume Dublin would have had a good side. Not sure therefore why Kerry would have been such heavy favourites beforehand.
Having said that, a lot of our lads looked below par today. Finished strongly but the damage had been done. The goal we conceded was a disaster.
Might do some fellas no harm in the long run to get a taste of defeat. See what they're made of now.

The goals pappered over these issues but they were there then and there today. We played well today for 5/8 mins in both halves. It's not just the sideline that didn't perform well but the decision making was poor throughout the team. The talent is there but it didn't come to the fore in the last two games. Hopefully the pain of defeat spurs them onto senior success. We'd all take that.

It has to be said Kerry had enough talent there today, which Jack has been working with for months, to win the game. I am hesitant to say too much because U20s are still very young but it appeared to me that some very talented players were doing things like passing 5 yards passes when their style of play suggested they could pick out a corner forward with a 30 yard kick. It is so frustrating to see talent limited to a set of instructions.
Both this year and last year they eventually threw off the shackles but left it too late to pull it out of the fire.

Lots of emotion here, a one point defeat to a good team and at the same time we could easily have won. I’d agree JOC has had his day,

Lighten the mood here lads. I’ve never seen the most relevant thread(Kerry v Galway) so eerily silent... Why are the usual fellas reluctant to discuss tomorrow’s game??

I am writing this having watched the game twice.
First of all it was heartening to see how much Kerry fought back today. Diarmaid oConnor lost two balls at the end...one an overcooked pass....but he was fighting a lone battle at midfield without support for long stages so i wouldnt fault him.
Kildares first 5 points can be traced back to the two keepers. Aaran oNeill was excellent for Kildare and two pinpoint kick outs ended up as points for his side. By comparison the Kerry kickout was all over the place. I would say 1.06 was conceeded from the Kerry kickout. I cant recall Brian Lonergan featuring as a minor. I would love to know why JOC didnt have Billy Courtney or Devidas Uouis in goal. I would also be interested in finding out why Barry Mahony didnt feature on this panel. He was a very effective operator last year at midfield..more so that D OConnor in my view.
The subs got 1.03 and turned the game on its head. I get it that you keep firepower in reserve but such scoring power was left awful late today.
There was 20 points between Kerry and Kildare as minors.
Anyone who thinks its all down to the loss of OShea and DC is deluding themselves.
Okunbor has a bit to learn about not giving away frees but he kept fighting on when lesser men would have been demoralised by a stream of 80:20 balls played into his man.

Kerry gave Galway a 10 point lead last year before starting to play and today gave Kildare a 7 point start before they kicked into life. Both games were similar in that midfield struggled for large passages of the game and there was no plan B for securing possession. Okunbar will have nightmares about the goal and Clifford will have likewise about the missed 14 yard free. I would love to see both recover from such lows to come back and win Sam with the seniors similar to how 6 or 7 of those who lost to Cork by 22 points won Sam in 2014. Another couple of frustrating mistakes were in the last minute when Friel (?) was in a brilliant position for possibly a goal but certainly a point and the pass was 30 yards off target. Then from the kick out that was going over the sideline, a Kildare player was fouled unnecessarily. It seems like a bad decision to let O'Shea and David Clifford play in a completely facile Munster Senior Championship and non-critical match v Galway when the u20s would have benefitted them and their teammates more.

Galway game non critical? How critical could it be if it’s a loss heading to Clones next Sunday?

If clifford and oshea were playing i have no doubt we wouldve beat Kildare and won the ai at u20s .BUT the senior team would be a lot weaker especially without o shea. I for one think its the right call

These teams met 2 years ago at minor level in the semi final in Croke Park. Clifford and O Shea were the difference in Kerry pulling away in the second half, that said, Kildare stuck to their task doggedly and played well for most of that game. There have been few changes to that Kildare team, apart from Podge Nash who operated at 11 yesterday. Aaron Masterson at midfield played and won a Leinster Club championship with Moorefield, as did Mark Dempsey. That kind of experience is invaluable. I have seen Hyland and Mc Loughlin at club and colleges level and they are brilliant players. Friends of mine at home scoffed at the idea that they would be a match for a kerry side without O Shea and Clifford. Kildare have plenty of quality footballers and they have been in Leinster finals and semi finals at minor level frequently over the past 6 years or so.
However, I can't understand how JOC let Hyland have the freedom of Limerick, likewise Mc Loughlin. These lads have been shooting the lights out all year. Kerry looked very disjointed and unsure of themselves, Kildare were the opposite. This is a very good Kildare side and Kerry fought bravely in the final quarter and almost squeezed a draw out of it. It would be great to see Kildare go on and win it now, a huge boost for the football fortunes of a football mad county.
