RTE are currently running a programme called "Ireland's Greatest Sporting Moment"
What is YOUR greatest KERRY sporting moment?
Is it a club championship match or a county game? Hurling or football?
Personal favourites of mine are:
The 'famine' ending in 1997. Darren O'Sullivans goal against Armagh in 2006 - after 4 years of being told we "couldn't beat Northern teams" 2012 Qualifier against Tyrone in Killarney was a special day too.
Obviously each All Ireland is special in it's own way.
One moment that is forgotten (because of what followed) is Kieran Donaghy's equalising point in the 2011 All Ireland Final. It was special for about 30 seconds...

Darren's goal v Armagh in 06 Donaghy year in 06 but namely goals against Armagh & Mayo Gooch v Dublin in the startled earwigs game Jameso v Mayo in 2014 drawn semi final
These would be nominations with the first one winning out

Depends on your age, etc- those games meant an awful lot & I can only talk about the emotions that they gave me. Darren's goal was a real yeeooww kind of moment- the pace it was done at and the game it was done in- we had been told that we were too soft and couldnt beat Northern teams, etc Donaghy was the same and he really rejuvinated a team that while being excellent was struggling for confidence. Gooch v's Dublin was the same- we had been playing poorly and Dublin were odds on (imagine that) to beat us- and then boom after only a few mins- it set the tone and showed that we werent there to be beat. Jameso v Mayo was a goal that saved us at the death and had the added bonus and showing us that Donaghy was back. Now after me "not scrathcing the surface" - give us yours

Now after me "not scrathcing the surface" - give us yours I once suggested we name an all time best Kerry team and was shot down, that would be easy in comparison to this, what is the criteria?, Donaghy's goal may have won '14 AI for us, also his mark vs Mayo in Limerick helped saved the day, the ones you mention are up there, what about Darren vs Limerick 2011?, then we have the Almighty Mickey bun run to the Cullen Oven in '78 on the same day of the Bombers hat-trick, Maurice Fitz pointer vs Dubs in 2001 .. still not even scratching the surface. What a joy in the first week of old time Bhoy.

Gooch's goal against Mayo in 2011 was a presentation of his supreme talent.
Passing the ball to the net is the best way to do it but Gooch showed off on this occasion, rifling the ball pin-pointedly into the roof of the net.

Bomber scored a point lateish in the 1984 Final v Dublin. I remember thinking at the time, it was a score that signalled that Kerry were pressing ahead to close out the win. After the horror the previous 2 years, it was most welcome to see. My memory is that there was a photo of it in the Kerryman the following week.
All of the above could be myth but it's what I remember.
Also John Cronin's goal v Cork 1991 semi-final in Killarney. 3 in a row, how are ye!!!!!

Mike Macs run through the earwigs defence and pass to set up the Gooch's goal. There was something mystical about a man emerging from the wilderness in that condition to play again at the highest level.

What about starting with reach players' defining moment, and even that would be difficult with some of our fellas, thank God - impossible to name a player who didn't have a good few in fact, even defenders, specially defenders and who are generally overlooked in favour of scoring forwards, backs are deemed unable to win a game but blamed if lose!
Then it again takes the exception to prove a rule so we have the O'6s charging forward with classic points.
Maybe we should have a thread on the best moments by our defenders, in defence as opposed to attack - was it Crowley who got the block vs Donegal 2012 AI final?, Paul Murphy the same day and AO'M for a beaut of a link up with was it Paul also?

Brolly had Darby’s goal as his top sporting moments of 80s in last night’s 80s moments review. As Kimmage said, “I may be an asshoe but I’m a consistent asshoe” He also said he didn’t like Barry McGuigan. Not sure wtf that had to do with anything. Cheap shot.

It's getting back to the top after being down is what does it for me....
So Killarney in 75 v Cork to knock them back in their f aaarses for ten years to quote Paidi. Winning it out was the icing on the cake in 1975.
1978 final v Dublin
1984 v Dublin
1996 v cork munster final
1997 semi final v Cavan....back in a final
2000 replay....MFRs point
2004 final...after the three previous years
2014 V Mayo in Limerick..... Epic didn't come near
The next championship victory over Dublin will be the sweetest....i hope it isn't too far away.

The 2010 extra time win over Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh was pretty special. Marcs equaliser was one of my favourite Kerry points.

One of the Cork Maor Uisce threw the contents of one of his bottles at me that day when the whistle blew. He missed me.and hit a lad in a wheelchair in front of me. I think he mixed me up with another fella who had shouted at him

I love Paul Geaney’s point in extra time v Mayo in 2014. It for me was the winning point even though Lyno got another, had to run, control ball, hand off two defenders and bang...the composure, the finish after 90 mins of football. Unreal. Donaghy’s point in 2011 final was awesome too. Gooch got a wonder goal v Mayo in quarters in 05 that I love too, the dummy hop, then, top corner.

Probably the best kicker of the ball the game has seen.

I find the most memorable are the ones when we go in to the game under a cloud..the 2002 All Ire semi final vs Cork in Croke Park,2006 quarter final vs Armagh,Dublin quarter final in 09 and the qualifier vs Tyrone in 2012 were most memorable..all those days we had a point to prove and also it showed when Kerry fans want to be they can be as boisterous as any..think both factors are linked.

My father had the 1955 photo in pride of place over the range when we were growing up - always mentioned that team even during the height of the late 70/early 80s team. It was a game-changer for that generation. Like we had in 1975 and 1997. And who knows, 2018? Youth to be given it's chance....would love to see a gang of 19-23 year old lads to repeat the performance.

John Lenihan's World Championship gold in mountain running in 1991 Gillian O'Sullivan's silver in the World Championship 20k walk in 2003 and was very unlucky to get injured before the 04 Olympics when a gold was a huge possibility. Edmund Barrett who won bronze in the 1908 Olympics for wrestling. Paul Griffin winning silver in the 2005 world rowing championships.
