Our neighbours went down in both games in Pairc du Franc yesterday. Looking at the hurling on TV the pitch seems very bare. They seem to have made a good job of the stadium but overlooked it's primary purpose.... There's talk that it needs to be relaid already!

In fairness that's the rule and Gough followed the rules. Eoin Doyle is the eijit here not wearing the gum shield. I know at club level refs might turn a blind eye unless you give them a bit of lip.

Galway v Monaghan is dire defensive stuff to watch!!! For those teams to do well they need an opponent playing like Kerry did v Galway. I dont find it dire though. I would prefer to watch that that watching a game where one team is totally naive

Yes. I'm watching the game on TG4 and yes it's dreadful stuff. All seem to be playing the Tyrone way. Whole lot behind the ball and the hand passing back and over across the pitch is shocking to watch. Wii they ever get rid of it.

Yeah but if kerry had set up the monaghan way against galway, kerry would probably have won the game although i agree that it wont win you an all ireland. Monaghan are to be commended for punching above their weight

Most Cork people I have spoken to see Ronan Mc as a definite improvement on previous management so Cork might still come good. Hopefully Tip get promoted and Clare stay up. that would be great for Munster football.

Serious case for Colm Collins to be one of the very top managers in the country, especially when you consider where they were when he took over. If they won their games against Tipp and Cavan as opposed to drawing them, they would be joint top of the table with Cavan on 8 points.

Has Cork football been at a lower ebb at any time in living memory.
Going back to 1970, i cant recall a time anyway.

Only way we go down is if Mayo beat Tyrone, Donegal win in Clones, Donegal beat Mayo, and we lose to Tyrone.
Even a draw in any of these games would keep us up.
Half time scores from this afternoon's games -
Monaghan 0-9 Donegal 1-5
Galway 0-10 Dublin 0-5
Mayo 0-3 Tyrone 0-8
(Cillian O'Connor & Lee Keegan off injured, black cards for Andy Moran and Colm Cavanagh, both teams down to 14 with 2 yellows for Colm Boyle and a straight red for Padraig McNulty)
Galway already in to league final before today's games due to head to head with Monaghan.
As it stands Monaghan would be 2 points behind the Dubs going in to Round 7, and a win in Croke Park next week would put the Farney men in the final.

Division 1 status secured. Mayo have got a serious hammering from Tyrone. Big test next week for us.

Results from today -
Monaghan 1-16 Donegal 1-10
Galway 0-13 Dublin 0-13 - Straight red for O'Gara near the end. Kilkenny point then to level it in injury time, close in free by Costello looked to have won it. Ref gave one more chance to Galway and Heaney salvaged a draw. Sounded like a mean spirited game on the radio!
Mayo 0-8 Tyrone 2-14
Standings after Round 6 -
Dublin - 11
Galway - 11
Monaghan - 8
Tyrone - 6
Kerry - 6
Mayo - 4
Donegal - 2
Kildare - 0
Galway and Dublin to meet again in the final. Kerry and Tyrone safe.
Donegal v Mayo in Ballybofey next week will decide who goes down with Kildare. Donegal win would relegate Mayo on head to head.

State of the pitch in Castlebar. It's got more sand than Banna.

Nasty, dangerous hit by McNulty on Lee Keegan. Colm Cavanagh was completely wronged though. Boyle should have got a straight red for the first "challenge".
Mayo are shocking at the moment. Just appear totally disinterested.

Jayo and Andy Moran will be lucky to escape bans.
If there is any consistency there and you look at the bans handed out to Connolly, McEntee and the Clarke defender who apparently squirted water at an umpire, Jayo and Moran will be in trouble.

Was thinking the same about Moran. could easily get 3 months if it's in the referees report unless it's deemed dealt with because of the black card. Jayo's incident didn't involve an official as far as I saw so he'll probably be ok.

In fairness to Moran, it was a split-second thing and he backed off straight away. Himself and Deegan shook hands after the card.
Jayo isn't exactly a hothead either. I wouldn't be too harsh on them, consistency notwithstanding.
On the other hand, if only Hassett could be banned.....

I think it’s time a la soccer to introduce a technical area to keep management teams in line. Hassett is nt the only one guilty of multiple incursions and it only adds to the ref s workload. Even better put them in the stand. Watching a Maori is ce running on off pitches ridiculous in my opinion.
