GROUP A St Flannan's Rochestown Mercy Mounthawk IS Killorglin
GROUP B Colaiste Chriost Ri Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig Clonakilty De La Salle, Macroom
GROUP C St Brendan's PCD High School, Clonmel
GROUP D Tralee CBS Skibbereen Hamilton High School, Bandon
Colaiste na Scelige and Rathmore both drop down to B grade this year so only 14 teams. In the groups with 4 each school will have 3 games, whereas in the groups with 3 each group will have 2 games. There are quarter-finals scheduled for January so presume it's still 2 from each group to qualify.

Sorry, but I have a question regarding teams, it might sound stupid but how do teams drop down to B or go up to corn ui Mhuiri, is it like a promotion relegation type thing based on previous year or is it based on overall school results under the senior grade in the previous year?

Rochestown Chriost ri the Sem and the Green Can't understand why you don't include PCD considering they won the Frewen Cup last year and have to win 1 game to reach a 1/4 final?

Good game in tough wet conditions between the Sem and Clonmel. Sem led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time, great team move for Ciara Flynn's goal. Led by 7 but we're hit for two goals in two minutes. Looked a bit rattled as Clonmel came at them to level. Tight defending on both sides. Niall McCartney pointed for the Sem and got a slightly lucky goal after Josh Fleming challenged the keeper for a high ball. Paul O'Shea man of the match. Marc Kelliher, Lorcan MacMonagle, Darren Looney, Cian Gammell and Sean Doherty impressed. 8 and 9 were excellent for Clonmel, a good team in their own right, while corner forward Cian O'Sullivan was outstanding.Sem will need to improve considerably.

It was a lot closer than the last time they met, that's one thing for certain! I would put PCD at the same level as the Sem this year after last year's Frewen Cup success so a win for them over Clonmel would get both teams through

Have the ISK any chance this year? A lot of good underage talent in the Mid Kerry area currently - will that foster into the ISK having any opportunity in this competition?

O Sullivan Cup 2017 Group B 25/09/2017 13:00 St Brendans Killarney 8-15 vs 3-9 I.S. Killorglin
ISK aren't as bad as that result but I think they are pretty young this year. Maybe they will improve under Micheál O'Shea if they progress to the after Christmas stage of the competition but don't think they will win it out.
The Sem are a bit back in the quality of players compared to the last few years. They won't be bad this year but PCD are probably the strongest team from the number of Kerry Minors/U17s from last year.

Saw them in the O'Sullivan Cup, well-drilled team. Deserved better on the day, Sem got in for 6 goals in the second half as Killorglin pressed forward. Eoin O'Sullivan and Ciaran Kennedy make a great midfield. Defenders Ian McGillicuddy, Keith Suter, Oisin O'Connor looked good. Up front Cathal Crosbie, Darragh O'Connor, and Cain O'Shea impressed me, Roan Moriarty is the key player, and young Gearóid Hassett is a super talent. Can't really see them winning it, but it'll take a good team to beat them. 3-17 against Mounthawk is fair scoring!

Today's fixtures in the Corn Úi Mhúirí. Would expect a comfortable win for PCD over Clonmel but fear for Mounthawk against Flannan's in a game both teams need to win. The Killorglin-Rochestown game looks like the best tie of this round and is tough to call as both had good wins in their opening games but maybe Rochestown might shade it?

08-11-2017 (Wednesday) Corn Ui Mhuiri Group A Round 2 I.S. Killorglin 2-13 St. Francis College Rochestown 1-09 St. Flannans College Ennis 1-12 Mercy Mounthawk 3-05
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group B Round 2 Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig 1-11 De La Salle College Macroom 0-10
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group C Round 2 P.S Chorcha Dhuibhne 5-18 High School Clonmel 0-05
Wins for Killorgin and PSCD and a narrow loss for Mouthawk.
In Group A Killorglin are pretty much qualified for the next round on 4 points but Mounthawk would require a lot of stuff to go there way to make it through to the quarters [beat Rochestown and have ISK beat Flannans, which would leave all three of Mouthawk, Flannans and Rochestown on 2 points and Mouthawk would also need to overcome points difference - Mounthawk's score difference is -12, Rochestown is -5 and Flannans -1, so Mouthawk would need to beat Rochestown by at least 4 points but the remaining difference can at least be made up by Killorglin's winning margin]
In Group C, the Sem and PCSD are both through as Clonmel have played both their games and are on zero points. These 2 play each other in 2 weeks time to see who tops the table. Looking at the scoreline, this was a big beating by PCSD, but I can't help wonder if Clonmel heads dropped as the game went on when they knew they were pretty much out. The word that I've heard about the Sem this year is that it's a very young squad for the most part with very few players from last year so I definitely wouldn't be banking on a three-in-a-row in terms of the Munster Cup.

Results from yesterday
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group A Mercy Mounthawk 1-14 St. Francis College Rochestown 3-8 St. Flannans College Ennis 1-12 I.S. Killorglin 0-8
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group B De La Salle College Macroom 2-14 Colaiste Chriost Ri 0-14 Match OFF – Clonakilty Community College V Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group C P.S Chorcha Dhuibhne 3-10 St Brendans Killarney 0-19
Corn Ui Mhuiri Group D Árdscoil Uí Urmaltaigh Bandon 5-6 Tralee CBS 2-13
Winners Flannans P.S Chorcha Dhuibhne
Runners-up IS Killorglin St Brendans Killarney
In Group B because of the postponed game, things are still uncertain. However it's basically if Ballincollig win that game, they will go through. Lose or draw and Chriost Ri will go through. Would take a big win (10 points+) for Ballincollig to overtake Macroom as group winners and Chriost Ri can't take over from Macroom as group winners, so Macroom very likely to go through as the group winners.
The final game in Group D is scheduled for the 6th of December. This game is between Skibbereen and Bandon
The current state of play is
Bandon played 1 won 1 - 2 points Tralee CBS played 2 won 1 - 2 points Skibbereen played 1 won 0 - 0 points
If Bandon win or draw, Tralee CBS go through as runners-up. If Skibb win all three teams will be on 2 points each but because of the way the score differences are currently, Tralee CBS will definitely go through. Skibbereen have to win by at least 3 points to go through; if they only win by 1 or 2 Bandon will go through.
I'm not sure what happens in terms of group winner/runner-up if Skibbereen win by exactly 4, as Tralee and Skibb would both have exactly the same score difference of +1. I think Tralee would get to go through as group winners as they beat Skibb in their head-to-head but I'm not 100% on this.
Overall all 4 of the Kerry schools are through to the quarters.

Corn Ui Mhuiri Under 18.5 A Football
Five goals prove vital at Bandon have close win
Hamilton High School Bandon 5-6 Tralee CBS 2-13
Report by Paddy Ryan
Hamilton High School with a brilliant second half emerged close winners over Tralee CBS in the Corn Ui Mhuiri at Station Road Grounds Millstreet on Wednesday. The game was played in light rain throughout in mild conditions. The Bandon side did well in the opening couple of minutes and they opened the scoring when Tomas Sheehan put Conor Calnan through for a point. Tralee were quick to pick up their game. They got on top in the half backline and midfield areas and they used the short passing at speed to good effect. Daniel Goggins opened their account and Fergal O’Brien had a goal for Tralee after a poor kick out. Rapid points by Daniel Goggins, Michael Kelleher and a punched effort by Fergal O’Brien opened up a lead of 1-4 to 0-1.
Bandon had their second point in the 11th minute when Darragh O’Shea kicked over. Hamilton had a couple of wides and were denied by the post. By the 22nd minute Daire Keane and Gearoid O’Donovan swopped a point as Tralee led 1-6 to 0-3. Tralee had their second goal when Fergal O’Brien finished off a five man attack 2-6 to 0-3. Rory Maguire and Fergal O’Brien exchanged a point with Daniel Goggins putting Michael Kelleher in for an injury time point as Tralee led by 10 points – 2-8 to 0-4 at the interval.
For the second half, Tralee moved David Fitzmaurice to partner Kevin Williams at midfield. Hamilton High School forced an early penalty when Gearoid O’Donovan and Fionn Herlihy worked well for Conor Calnan who was fouled in the area. Darragh O’Shea converted the penalty. From here on the momentum was with Bandon. They did well in defence and their attack took some brilliant goals. Conor Calnan pointed. Good play by Gearoid O’Donovan, Philip Wall led to a great goal by Sean Barry as the lead was down to four points. Bandon had two wides with Fionn Herlihy working well for Bertie Butler who netted in off the post leaving just a point between the 2-9 to 3-5.
Tralee replied with a point after Kevin Williams worked very hard for Michael Kelleher who pointed. In the 49th minute Bandon took the lead when David Curtin with a kickout found Conor Calnan who placed the inrushing Philip Wall who offloaded to Fionn Herlihy who pushed Bandon 4-5 to 2-10 clear. Sean Quilter levelled from a free. High School had their 5th goal in the 23rd minute when Tomas Sheehan, Philip Wall and Conor Calnan all worked very well for Cullen Barry who found the net 5- 5 to 2-11. A foul on Adam Walsh Murphy in the 55th minute led to a free by Darragh O’Shea that was gathered by Cullen Barry with O’Shea taking the return pass and kicking over. In the dying moments Michael Kelleher pointed two frees for Tralee. In the 63rd minute Tralee forced a free outside the 21 – Kelleher’s powerful effort struck the crossbar and was cleared to safety and was followed by the final whistle.
Even though defeated Tralee CBS will still make the knockout stages with Hamilton High School still to meet St Factna’s Skibbereen in two weeks to decide who qualifies. Should Hamilton High School win they would top the group. If St. Factna’s were to triumph it would come down to scoring difference.
Scorers for Hamilton High School: Darragh O’Shea 1-2 (1-0 pen), Bertie Butler 1-0, Sean Barry 1-0, Cullen Barry 1-0, Fionn Herlihy 1-0, Conor Calnan 0-2, Gearoid O’Donovan 0-1, Rory Maguire 0-1. How good are the Kerry schools this year, Dingle & Killarney? Any dark horses in Tralee & Killorglin? From what I've heard Dingle are probably the favourites. Sem are a bit light/young compared to the teams of the last few years but should still be in the mix. Didn't really hear anything about any dark horses in dispatches - general feeling I got was that Dingle are probably favourites but not by a whole pile and that it is open enough in who will make semis/finals/win it out. Overall would be surprised if the All-Ireland winners came out of Munster this year. Across the border, Chriost Ri not making the quarters is a bit of a surprise as they won the 16 and a half competition 2 years back and Bandon might be a bit of a surprise package, given the scores they've put up and up the way Flannans will give any of the teams left a game. All to play for in the new year.

I suppose the strength or otherwise of the teams in this competition at u18.5 will have little or no relevance to the possible strength of the Kerry minor team this year?

Semi finals are St. Brendan's v PSD Ballincollig v The Green Interesting fixtures. Three group runners up make the SF's and only one group winner. Also Brendans and PSD drew at the group stage and the Green lost to Bandon (who lost to Ballincollig in QF).

Semi finals are St. Brendan's v PSD Ballincollig v The Green Interesting fixtures. Three group runners up make the SF's and only one group winner. Also Brendans and PSD drew at the group stage and the Green lost to Bandon (who lost to Ballincollig in QF). Backs up the notion that a few people mentioned that there wasn't any huge favourite/stand-out team this year, but rather a lot of teams of a similar enough level of quality.
