I'd like to see Micheal Burns being brought in asap in particular. This time last year he was playing no football, sub for Crokes and it cost him his county u21 place.

Hate to say but there's a part of me that wouldn't mind Crokes being beaten soon so we can get some of these young ballers into Kerry training. I agree, would like to see Murphy and White in particular getting a good run in the league. Burns as well maybe.

Joe O'Connor's appointment, announced today is a huge positive development for all Kerry teams - Joe is certainly one of the best trainers there is in the country and its great to see him commit to Kerry - now, if he could bring Donie Buckley with him...!!!

What is his background and pedigree? Lecturer in IT Tralee and owner of Nisus Fitness in Tralee; was an international runner. Joe was previously involved with Kerry in 2011 and was highly spoken of by the players; subsequently was involved with Dr Crokes and Kerins O'Rahillys. He was the physical trainer of the Clare team in 2013 which won the All Ireland and was involved with Limerick hurlers for past 2 seasons; he trains a no of athletes also.

What is his background and pedigree? That's an exciting appointment. I thought he was still S&C coach for the Limerick senior hurlers. He's a lecturer (sports related) in Tralee IT and runs a gym in Tralee as well. He was the S&C coach for the Clare hurlers when they won the All-Ireland. I think he stayed on for a year or two after that but like most of that background team he was gone a few years after that win. He was with the Limerick hurlers since 2015 to not sure when. He was also part of some Kerins O'Rahillys mgt team in recent years but can't remember exactly. He was also on the TV program Irelands Fittest Family and may have been on operation transformation as well but not sure on that one. Here is a link to an article in the Irish examiner from a few years back that gives a nice bit of insight into his philosophy link

Clare were in great shape in 2013 when they won that All-Ireland.

Great to see these new young players associated with the training setup. This will be an exciting and good year for Kerry, well worth a punt with Power at 7/2 to end the four in a row chat. The NFL cant come around quickly enough!

It feels like this is an area we have been lacking in at all levels over the past few years

This is an addition rather than a replacement?

He is responsible for all teams I think. I don't believe such a role existed before.

I understand that Niall O'Mahony ( Spa) has been added to the senior backroom team on S & C - had a similar role this year with the juniors.

It is a big responsibility to get all these young lads up to speed over the coming years in a fitting manner. Is this new appointment similar to the one Bryan Cullen does?

I see where you are coming from. any chance they could mix it up a bit I wonder Let Shane Murphy, Gavin White , Michael Burns in with Kerry a bit and let Buckley, Fionn with the Crokes until they beaten A league game or two with Kerry wouldn't do Murphy any harm even if Crokes still in the club football

I think he was the Waterford hurlers a long time back too He was with the Kerry hurlers under John Meyler when they were in Christy Ring finals

Just wondering - based on the glowing reports everywhere this morning - should Eanna O'Connor be brought into the Kerry squad? I haven't seen him play much and am not sure if he is really county material. He was in the Kildare squad in 2016 but not this year.

Delighted to see Dara Moynihan in - he is exactly what we need in half forward line - athletic, great heart, and a scorer - the lattter bit lacking badly recently in team.

How does a strength and conditioning project work when most of the lads needing it are in college in Cork, Limerick and Dublin. Do the s&c man go around to the gyms etc in these Cities and supervise the students?

A lot of the programmes are introduced on a 1:1 basis and monitored on line via a special app; once the participant begins a session it is recorded using GPS and then downloaded - the monitoring coach can then check that the requisite amount was completed.

Not sure with his club still being in the championship leaves him but they are only starting up again. And to my knowledge he is in the squad. Haven't gone back training just yet, just fitness tests.

I presume the new fixtures schedule will mean AI club finals will end in the same calendar year.
With Crokes and An Gaeltacht likely to be involved until Feb/March it doesn't help the likes of Murphy, White, Burns, Begley, Eanna and so on try integrate themselves onto the Kerry Senior panel/team.

Wolly nailed this today. The January tournaments are a nuisance. Agreed, they need to wrap the club championships in the same calendar year. No excuses with the all weather pitch in Croker.
