At the top level in any sport mental attitude is critical - going into any game thinking it will be easy is the first step in failure. Changing mental attitude during a game is close to impossible. What people are cautioning about is that Cork are a side who typically play their best football against Kerry, therefore Kerry need to be wary and take the game seriously. Kerry playing to their potential will beat the current Cork team, but anything less than proper attitude and preparation leaves the door open for Cork to charge through if they pull it together on the day - and that would be a sickening feeling for any Kerry person. Solid post, and 100% correct on in-game attitude alterations if things go wrong, although I think this is an area where data analytics should be moving, observing player responses to events. Another conversation. I agree with RoyalKerryFan, if you think we'll win what is wrong with saying it, like this will impact the players? Our senior team are not our u21s and are way more battle hardened. I take the point about being caught, the 21s and 2015, but we've been through too much war with Dublin to be anything but ruthless in approach to this game. I'm pretty sure every Kerry senior player believes that the will win the All Ireland this, they will be looking to clear anything in the way off the road

I think both sides have valid points
The attitude that a team should have can be summed up in 4 words – respect all, fear none.
I think this perception of “caution” is blunting Kerry’s effectiveness in recent times and is a scar we are carrying from defeats to Ulster teams a long time ago. It is time to get back on the horse. There is enough talent on the bench to keep those fortunate enough to start focussed so it is unlikely there will be any complacency.

Great news its on in Killarney. Revamped or not nobody should ever be subjected to the journey up to Páirc Uí Chaoimh.... Just have it on here every year, sur even the Cork lads prefer it On a serious note: Cork will be delighted the way pundits are writing them off. There will be a reaction at some stage as they do have good footballers. And they usually save that reaction for facing Kerry. I think we will win, but I would be very wary.

Donnchadh will miss the Munster final presumably. He served a suspension after one of the league games, mayo I think, even though he didn't get a card he got a 1 match ban, so technically this is his second red card this year therefore he gets a suspension.

I understand lads being cautious and nobody wants to get carried away. I'd have to ask on what basis should we be cautious? 2015 was different, we where champions and we didn't look right all Summer. Cork have been abysmal in both league and championship, I really do believe Kerry should be winning this comfortably. Personally I'm looking forward to JOD lighting up the Munster Final. Personally, I think best way to support our Kerry players is to take a cautious and humble approach. As Kerry supporters we should all have the welfare of our players at heart as they try and prepare as professionally as they can for what they will rightly expect to be a testing fixture. Trust me, the last thing any Kerry player will want to hear is their own fans telling them this game is in the bag. More generally, why hype up the opposition with disrespect and pile unnecessary pressure on our players? The point I made is that somebody, maybe you, said that "Kerry will have to be at their very best to beat Cork" which can't really be taken seriously on everything we have seen from Cork under their current manager. After the 2015 game it's doubtful if Eamonn Fitz will allow any complacency but I will repeat my assertion that Kerry can get away with being a good bit below their very best and still beat this Cork team.

If Kerry turn up to Killarney at their very best two months before the All Ireland final is due to take place something will have gone badly, badly wrong with their preparation.

That's not correct. If you get 3 black cards or double yellows (or a combination of both) within a year you get a one match ban. The one match ban from the game in Tralee has no impact on this. He could however get a two match ban for a repeat offense.

Hard to tell with Kerry v Cork games. History has taught us that form means nothing. Kerry were poor against Clare. Can't go out with that starting 15 again. Buckley and Darren to start for me in the half forward line and Savage in the corner. Moran hopefully will be back. Griffin will have his hands full with Kelleher. He's the danger man for me. Should be close enough at the end no matter what. I do expect Kerry to shade it in the end but a big improvement is needed.

Also think that is exactly the type of player Griffin does well on. If Cork are to have any chance Powter, S Cronin, and M Hurley should start. Barry O'Driscoll too. Kevin Crowley looks a very decent defender. What's the story with Cadogan and Aidan Walsh?

On known reality: form, what is being used to make a case for Cork? Apathetic league, two very poor Championship showings. Clare are better than Cork. Yes we did make hard work of it but played 40+ mins with 14, against the wind for 35 of them. I'd be interested in Delorean's take. Play the game in front of you, history is exactly that. Meaningless. The u21 result has no relevance to this game. Kerry have a much better team and they'll prove it in two weeks time. That's not cockiness, that's confidence based on Kerry being the stronger team, better individual players, many of them more experienced, stronger mental fortitude and a burning hunger to win Sam. The league final win was a major milestone for this team. There will be no complacency against Cork.

Kerry look a lot further than the road than Cork and should be closing out this game with time to spare. The u21 thing was a completely different situation. No functioning midfield paring for starters on the back of an unfit one the season before which gave a glimpse of the positioning and the worth of the u21 team the year before.

I brought up the u21s purely to show what overconfidence can do. Does anyone seriously believe that the galway u21s were superior to kerry this year.....i dont. Dublin showed that galway were not a great side when faced with a clued in, tactically astute opposition.
If kerry play to something like their potential they will win. I dont expect kerry to play near to potential as they tend not to when there are long gaps between games. The league final display was on the back of a run on games week in week out.

Galway had better players all down through the central spine of their team and therefore were better than Kerry. The writing was on the wall for the u21s, would they get away with their midfield parings. Some of us flagged this in the games before last years u21 Munster final. That doesn't mean that 5 or 6 of the u21s can't contribute in a big way to the seniors this summer.

Congrats to the ladies on beating cork in the munster championship. Cork were two points up towards the finish but two goals from kerry put them 4 up. Cork got two points back before full time. Cork started without seven players who won the all ireland and they now go the qualifier route ..still the team to beat probably

I'd be interested in Delorean's take. It's difficult to have a 'take' given the disillusionment we've become accustomed to over the past two or three years. I've learned that there is no such place as rock bottom, you can always find new depths. There are zero expectations for the Munster Final, the only slight hope is that we may have seen a bit of light in the second half against Tipperary. It's the closest we've come to throwing off the shackles in a long time. Will management have learned valuable lessons? Not many are confident that they have. In theory, we have the players to be competitive in every area outside of score taking, unfortunately that's a pretty important one. With Colm O'Neill on the wane and Donncha O'Connor being used sparingly, it's hard to identify the players who will chip in with a consistent supply of scores. Kerrigan might be good for 0-3 on a good day and Collins usually knocks over one or two, I just can't see the rest accumulating enough to really trouble Kerry. The consistent excellence of Paul Geaney and seemingly rejuvenated James O'Donoghue is obviously a concern at the other end, but that goes without saying. Overall it's hard to have too much faith, Peadar & co. seem alarmingly out of their depth unfortunately. I'm sure they're good men doing the very best they can, but the evidence on the pitch so far suggests a lack of progress to put it nicely. Hopefully Kerry can hit one of their sluggish days and we can utilise our own strengths. Take a leaf out of our hurlers book and pick a team full of freshness, running and unpredictability. The notion that "we have the players" is overstated, but we do have a decent enough selection and strength in depth to boot, but it's about getting the balance right. To emphasise the point though, we are missing one or two predators inside unless O'Neill can roll back the years. derry4sam - Cadogan has been injured for what seems like years at this stage. He was supposed to be available for the Tipp game but must have had a setback. Hard to see him being match fit for this one even if he is available, but hopefully could be used for a specific job if required (note to mgt - this specific job should not entail marking somebody with pace). Aidan Walsh is available having played for Duhallow on Saturday night).

Éamonn Fitzmaurice: Kerry share Cork’s disappointment over Páirc Uí Chaoimh delay Friday, June 23, 2017. The disappointment on Leeside that Páirc Uí Chaoimh will not be ready for the Munster football final is shared in the Kingdom, Kerry football manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice said last night, writes Michael Moynihan. “I think initially there was disappointment from everybody — players, supporters, everyone. There was something unique about going down to the new Páirc Uí Chaoimh. “I’ve passed it a couple of times myself on the road and it looks so impressive. Everyone was looking forward to getting in there, but once the decision was made — and I think credit has to be given that the decision was made very quickly, that it wasn’t something that was left. There was no ‘we’ll see, we might get there’. “The decision was made quickly, which was good from our point of view, so from our point of view we were able to say ‘we weren’t expecting to have a Munster championship outing in Killarney this way, so this is a bonus’. It’s a nice bonus to be playing there.” Fitzmaurice says there are promising signs for the Leesiders, though they’re perceived to be at a low ebb. “That’s what people are saying, but we’re obviously not going to take them for granted. A lot of things come into play. “They can be inconsistent but when they play well, as in the second half of the Tipperary game in particular, they’re as good as they’ve ever been. “Something that’s been out there is that they’re at a very low ebb, but within the group that doesn’t seem to be the way they’re thinking, because they’ve come through some sticky tests, and that’s usually the sign of togetherness. “Both the Waterford and Tipperary games were games they could have lost if they hadn’t had that togetherness or knowhow, particularly after Conor Sweeney got a goal for Tipperary in the 69th minute. I thought it was a great sign of them (Cork) to go up the field and get a goal. “I think they’re a lot closer than people think they are. You see flashes of play, that they’re working hard on their game, but it just hasn’t clicked to the extent they want. “In 2014 we went to Cork being written off but we knew a lot of good work was being done in the background, that it was only a matter of the tide turning. It did and we went on from there.” Fitzmaurice said Kerry will pick from a full squad. David Moran, who didn’t play against Clare in the last game, will be fit for Cork.

Wondering what starting line-up would be best equipped to take on Cork. Probably one or two changes likely. This would be what I expect to start:-
Brian Kelly.
Fionn Fitzgerald. M. Griffin. Shane Enright.
Peter Crowley. T. Morley. Paul Murphy.
D. Moran - Jack Barry.
M. Geaney. Kevin McCarthy. D. Walshe.
J. Savage. Paul Geaney. J. O’Donoghue.

Only Fionn might be vulnerable mainly because Ronan has been a real find. Maher needs game time and he needs to perform so he may get another start. James and Paul nailed on. The other four positions are the ones that could fluctuate. I'd expect Stevie to start and if Darren is fit and in form he'd be straight in, but I know neither. I'd play him centre forward, low ball, 360 burners on, maximise free winning potential. The panic tackle zone. Star will surely see some game time, he'll need it. Like many, the keeper situation is perplexing, more for the outfield players, Kealylooked like he was finding a swagger with his kicking. Then we had the throw ball panic v Dublin in league final. I dunno...

I thought Fionn was very vulnerable against Clare, wouldn't like to think he would feature in our best 15. Killian Young must be close to fitness again by now.
