Tomas had a right go at cork county board yesterday saying they are selecting the wrong management. He suggested that they had got it wrong in the hurling too which was a crazy thing to say given that Cork hurlers are flyin.
Who is he a stalking horse for?
Himself?
Or Billy Morgan to make a comeback?

He suggested that they had got it wrong in the hurling too which was a crazy thing to say given that Cork hurlers are flyin. Who is he a stalking horse for? Himself? Or Billy Morgan to make a comeback? I was thinking the same thing. If I was a Cork supporter I would be sick to the gills of former Kerry players speaking/writing about what is wrong with Cork football, with Tomas being one of the most forceful. It is poor form on his part to suggest that Peadar Healy "is in over his head". He is leaving himself very exposed if he ever became manager of Cork, indeed manager of any county team, and if his reign ended in tears. I am convinced Tomas is a mouthpiece for some Cork friends, perhaps Billy Morgan as you suggest. They have been managing UCC Sigerson team together for a number of years. Tomas can be very naive. He would be well advised to keep his nose clean on this issue. Let Cork sort out their football problems as I have no doubt they will, just as their hurlers seem to have done, even though Tomas seems to be unaware of the hurlers' progress. If Kerry fail to regain Sam this year, particularly if they are beaten by Dublin in that quest, the Cork supporters might just have.

I'd imagine it's a Nemo thing alright. This way they can keep a distance from any criticism and say sure he's from kerry, you can't be up to them etc etc.
John Cleary as far as I remember was in the frame for manager after Cuthbert, based on his record with the U-21's. But it didn't happen. He's a non Nemoite either so probably wouldn't have been heralded as the right man even if he had got it then.
Tomas hasn't managed any county team yet so he's a fair long way from being in a position to throw stones. His late uncle was far cuter. As well as having the newspaper column, he played the long management game starting from West Kerry up and gradually building a CV towards the senior job.

I seriously doubt Tomas is being told what to say by anyone. It's possible he just thinks the Cork management are shite without it being some nefarious Nemo conspiracy.
I mean, they are shite like.

And I on the other hand think Veteran hit the nail on the head...and Tomas would be well advised to stop talking about Cork and Corks management!

The reason I ask is to query whether Kevin McCarthy might be a similar player. Annascsulite Was Kevin mac like ogie Moran maybe one day he will be and I hope he is and better but no not yet . The number 11 slot on the kerry team should be a blockbuster player and the leader of our attack e.g. Gooch I would argue Johnny Buckley is a better option there and would even try Barry there Looking for the shooter seemed to be the order of the day on Sunday and it worked well but we know that if the two shooters are shut down and please don't be lulled into a false sense of security that they won't by the metropolitans . We need 6 shooters or 15 shooters that why my favorite point Sunday was Michsel Geaney with his left leg from outside the D more of that Mike Your a Kerry forward you need to be able to score Great to see Star back where he belongs let get it right this time

So far Kerry's shooting overall in the championship has been very good, apart from when it comes to goal chances.
I make it a total of 58 shooting attempts with 43 successful (for a total of 2-41) 74.14%
Out of this Kerry have had 14 deadballs attempts converting 13 of them 92.86% This is a good bit up compared to recent history but one thing to note is that a lot of these were frees from very scorable positions and there were very few long-distance ones in here [iirc there was only 2 from distance - Sheehan's one late on in Ennis and Mickey Geaney's 45]
In terms of chances for play, it was 44 attempts with 30 converted for a very respectable 68.18%. Goal chances missed made up either 6 or 7 [I'm not 100% on my figures for the Clare game] of the 14 missed conversion attempts so in terms of point scoring attempts converted, it's almost at the 80% mark. However the flipside of that is the goal conversion percentage is very low - hopefully this will improve in the future.
Watching the game back it struck me again just how awful the Cork defence was - there's no doubt in my mind that Cork will be the worst defence we play all year. Even from early on the amount of space Cork defenders gave the Kerry forwards was just crazy (one notable exception being Powter who did seem to grasp the idea that if you want to attempt to successfully tackle a player you need to get some bit close to them, even if his tackling technique was poor enough and the ref was very lenient on him) It was pretty much the perfect example of a side thinking that bodies back equals a strong defense.
Overall the Cork attitude was abysmal - in the first 2/3 minutes Mark Griffin went on one of his surging runs upfield and the effort one of the Cork players made to stop him was so poor and so half-hearted, I wouldn't have blamed the Cork manager for subbing him off there and then. This was at the very start of the game, when the score was either 2 or 3 point to Kerry. If a player is you're not willing to even try at this stage of a game, it's a clear sign that things are well askew.
One plus for me was the attitude of the subs - Stephen O'Brien and Johnny Buckley in particular - both put their hands up in a major way in terms of wanting/demanding a starting place. Jack Barry also gave Alan O'Connor plenty of it while Darran buzzed around the place and was unlucky enough with his shot at the posts. Killian didn't have one of his better days, but he has enough performances banked at this stage and he is a player coming back from injury. Might be a bit harsh but I was disappointed in Lyne - I know he wasn't on long but there was one move, where he had a chance to drive on an run towards goal [there was only one Cork man between him and the goals] but instead he turned and played an ultra-safe ball backwards - there are times to play conservatively but when you are 10 points up against Cork in the dying minutes of a Munster Final and you come off the subs bench with fresh legs you should be bursting a gut to get on the score sheet a la BJK. BJK's attitude when he came on was the one I love to see at that stage of a match - we're giving Cork a hiding here and I'm going to get my kicks in too.
Kickouts are a major concern - I think we made it far harder for ourselves in this area - I know the weather conditions were warm on Sunday but still the whole process was so slow and labourious. Kelly is the one with the main responsibility here and he seemed to take an age over the vast majority of the kickouts, almost as if he was waiting to let the Cork players get into the positions they wanted before taking them. Also at the other end, while we won a good chunk of kickouts, I felt we let O'Halloran off far too easy in terms of putting pressure on his kickouts - Tipperary managed to put him under way more pressure in their game by comparison.

I don't get Kerry's or Kelly's approach to the kickouts last Sunday or in general, nor do I get Kerry's approach to the revolving keeper situation. This is a major weakness in the current setup. I just don't get what they are or are not doing in this regard.

Kealy's kickouts have improved immeasurably in the last two years, definitely ahead of Kelly. Kealy is more prone to a mindf**k moment though and I think Kelly scrambles better when ball is in close. Kealy goes to ground too easily, but reckon he's better shot stopper. For the kickouts alone I'd have Kealy in.

Surely Mayo can organise things so that Tom Parsons is not the shooter. He is like a two year old trying to kick a ball for the first time.
Following on from last years replay fiasco in dropping their key man David Clarke, will the Mayo selectors do any better this year....its not hopefull so far....Conor Loftus should be walking onto the first fifteen and they cant afford to be without Seamus oSe for any part of the game as he is one of the few that can play the killer footpass quickly to the forwards. A quick ball from him to COC led to the goal if i remember correctly.
