Nothing's unwinnable when you've the most expensive legal team since OJ Simpson's dream team. They can prove that since Connolly was wearing gloves he didn't technically lay a hand on the linesman - "if the glove did the hit, you must acquit". Excellent RTE to commission a 10 part series in 2018??? The People vs Diarmiud Connolly Netflix hi. Jo90 you deserve to like your own post on that one.

All dermo had to do against carlow was get a black card nice and early for a body check or something and his slate would have been wiped clean for the rest of the championship.
Instead he is out till the semi final and presumably a black card in the semi final would mean that he would miss the final.
This is assuming that this twelve week suspension does not wipe the slate clean....

He is lucky Brennan is not still in the hot seat or his proposed 12 week suspension might be doubled!

Dublin’s Diarmuid Connolly will not appeal against the 12-week suspension handed down for his actions in last weekend’s Leinster SFC quarter-final clash against Carlow.
In a heated game, Connolly laid his hand on the shoulder of linesman Ciarán Branagan after a sideline ball was awarded following a scuffle on the touchline.
The Central Competitions Control Committee reviewed footage of the incident and decided that the Dublin wing-forward's actions warranted a 12-week ban.
Connolly had the option of taking his case to the Central Hearings Committee to fight the ban, but he has instead opted to accept the suspension.
Dublin will now be without the services of the St Vincent's clubman until the end of August.
The ban will expire on midnight before the second All-Ireland football semi-final, which takes place on 27 August. This is the game the Dubs will feature in should they progress that far in the competition and go the direct route.

Unfortunate for Dublin, but I think the right decision. Things not right lately. Would of happened in next game.

Will he be allowed train with the squad during the 12 weeks? I am think he is suspended from all contact including club. Remember Galvin saying in his book that when he was suspended he trained with Cork City to stay fit.

If is he not allowed to train with the team it more than likely rules him until the All-Ireland final to be in contention for a starting berth, even then it would be difficult to make a starting 15.

Sad day for football really, cynical mentalities have won. And before I get the backlash, I'll remind people that I consistently stood up for Galvin back in the day. Discipline is one thing but the horrible culture of blackguardism and off the ball fouling in football have brought us to where a guy is lauded and wins POTY having spent half his time dragging and pulling and fouling. And a journalist in a national paper who advocated that a player get targeted has not been penalised for it

Connolly deserves everything he gets and a lot more.
Of course Philly the good old working class hero stated he does what he has to do to win. Nothing cynical there.

Poor old "Dermo". I think it was community service he got a few years ago so let's call this karma.

You could learn a thing or two from the bluepanther on here who everyone respects for being even handed.

The higher the profile of the player the more media attention. Dublin's chances of the three in a row has vastly improved as he has become a massive liability. Dublin should be thankful that this incident has taken the limelight off Johnny Cooper. Yet again he has gotten a player on a yellow sent off without any sanction on his part. He would gladly take a yellow himself for such deeds but more often than not he gets away scot-free. Brendan Murphy's first yellow was a total mistake, not even a free which Dublin pointed. The wrong team ended up with 14 players but very few are mentioning this.

You could learn a thing or two from the bluepanther on here who everyone respects for being even handed. This particular incident is not in the same space as those you quote above. We could spend day and night highlighting incidents involving all teams. But the nearest i can remember to last Saturday was Galvin and the notebook. Mega petulance resulted in a mega sentence, which was appealed and halved if I remember rightly. No getting away from what DC did, officials are rightly deemed to be off limits re physical contact. But a few things grate, 1) it was hardly in the DeCanio league, 2) the sanction is harsh in the extreme for what he actually did as he was "remonstrating" rather than manhandling the linesman 3) at the time no sanction was applied and the linesman and ref appeared unperturbed 4) the incident mysteriously then got a mention in the refs report 5) 3 Carlow players plus an excitable maor uisce took the opportunity to get stuck into DC and there has been no mention anywhere of that 6) Murphy after being sent off let rip with a volley of expletives at the linesman and there has been no further follow up 7) Spillane, under the guise of fake concern for standards within the game couldn't wait to nail DC, so essentially TSG are setting the agenda again. Having said all that, if Dublin had appealed I believe they had enough grounds to get him off. Which tells me that Gavin is concerned that the circus around DC is beginning to have a net negative effect. I think we have a few problems and for the first time in a while both Meath and Kildare look like they will be competitive. The hope is that this move re energizes the group and that they can concentrate on football. Hopefully one of the younger forwards step up but they are huge shoes to fill. I personally believe that we cannot win the AI without DC, the league final is a good barometer of that. Even if we get to a semi he won't be involved, and I'm not entirely sure we'll get to a semi without him. All in all a calculated gamble by Gavin. Hope he's right and I hope TSG keep up their viligence no matter who the team is!

Skybluezone....just to clarify the galvin suspension....he initially got six months. It was cut to three months on appeal. The three months was the maximum sanction but the cccc lost the run of themselves and acted "ultra vires".
Twas the six months suspension that so annoyed kerry....and the cccc effectively lost credibility

Cork do enough and win by a point. Quinlivan going off was crucial. Corks subs were better that Tipps. Which is to be expected given that Shannon rangers have probably a bigger pick than Tipp.

Skybluezone Personally for the contact shown it seemed harshe but he may have said something particularly nasty I don't know. One thing is that DC has been skirting the edge for quiet some time and has a poor level of control for a player of his talent. Do you not think that every other top forward gets less attention ?? The difference is they don't react with the same stupidly as Dermot does. As you are aware there was a nasty mess off the Lee Keegan sending off last year and I'm sure the GAA authorities feel a little duped by the whole scenario.
Dermot is a wonderful player and a joy to watch but he's a bit like a great formula one car with a flawed engine, nobody knows which lap he will blow the engine. I think Gavin needed to put a marker down with Diarmuid and for that reason he may have advised him that he is to take the forty lashed handed down, this could have ended up infecting dublins tilt at three in a row. It's all about inches and the chasing pack are getting closer and closer so he needs a focuses team and Dermot already acted very stupidly in the national league final..
Gavin has also dropped a little sand in the bearings by repeatedly stating that his team play a particular brand of ball and that is attacking football and he continually has stated that he doesn't condone cynicism in his team,, now that is where Gavin has foolishly shun an unnecessary light into an unswept corner. It has upset Fitzmaurice and other managers and the media bandwagon are starting to hear the wheels creak. Every team has enforcers and everyone knows that, when the nightclub owner starts taking the Mike and announcing that his bouncers are the best in the business and never touched the injured patrons outside the door it's only a matter of time when he gets up the wrong nose. E Fitzmaurice was perfectly right to fact check the cream topped horse* that was landing with far too much regularity on the final edit of the sport journalists self pleasing posts.
Dublin are a great team but if you are next in line for the cubicle you will still have to search for air freshener, unless you are lucky enough to be in after Jim because if you are lucky enough to be that person then breath in the fresh air,,,,
