So much talk about Fitz wouldn't have wanted this game and if Kerry win we show our hand. I get the point of these thoughts and the hoping if we keep our heads down now we might catch them in the summer but its all BS in my opinion. Dublin have been showing their hand with years and nobody can beat them. This is a chance now to beat them and build a new platform and kick on in the summer. Its a great game to get and a huge bonus for us and better than 100 training matches. Great for the inexperienced lads to get a run around Croke Park with a full house looking on. Dublin are no fools they see that Kerry have brought in legs this year. They know Kerry are going to try and match their intensity for 70 mins should they meet. Sure its the only way to beat them. They have a team of analysts so they are missing no tricks so when the time comes and if we beat them in the summer it wont be because they are not ready for us.
Its a huge stage playing the best team in the country for the inexperienced players and should stand to them going forward. Fear has crept in to our mentality in Kerry along with settling for good performances regardless of the result. I have witnessed over the last few years we are making plenty excuses and not expecting glory as we once did. Statements like if we stay withing 5 points of them we will be doing well. Its awful to listen to. We need to get that confidence back, its worth a lot. We won big games on days we were second best because of confidence.
So for now I say this is a great chance to go up and have a right good crack off them and get a few of the newer lads battle hardened for the summer months ahead.

What way will the game go? If Dublin win by 5 or more points, will they be overconfident come August/September? If Dublin just about win, they will be well aware of the Kerry threat come end of season and therefore be better prepared and definitely not overconfident. If Kerry win, are we now showing our hand and Dublin will be well motivated and better prepared for their 3 in a row. If Kerry win I don't think it will be a case of we showing our hand because Dublin are maxed out on motivation and preparation anyway so they they can't increase that. On the other hand I think it would improve Kerry's confidence no end.

Don't have any issue at all with what Eamonn said. Hopefully this is the first in a fight fire with fire' campaign from Eamonn. I have become more positive in the last few days. I think we should just say f**k it and tear into the dubs. The dubs are one of the most cynical teams in the country. So are we, You need to be to get to the top.
Play our football but, don't be afraid to horse into them similar to what we did in tralee. If Young, Enright and Paul Murphy are all available and play in the backs then that 3 of the bast backs int he country in the last few years right there.
Morley is playing well and id have no fear for him. The only one I would worry about is Mark Griffin but if we get out matchups right I think he will be fine as well.
The big call is at midfield. Will we let Jack Barry loose in croke park or go for the safer option with Maher and Moran?
The half forward line as well will be a big call. I know they played well the last day but, they are facing a different animal on Sunday. But, we have to see how they do. I think a physical game is made for Mike Geaney.
If we start the same full forward line we will have some pace at least to hit on the counter attack.
Really looking forward to Sunday!

It's time to tear into them and play some attacking football and see what they have got. We know they are an excellent team but if we start Barry, we have the legs to last the pace. Only problem is Connolly, Brogan and McCaffrey are back in the fold form the Tralee game. They are 3 big players for them. We need a scoring threat in the HF line. If Geaney is held, we are looking toothless upfront. Anybody know if JOD will be fit?

I believe McCaffrey is injured after last Sunday, hamstring I think. Before I heard it I was wondering if Gavin would put him on Donnachadh after the way he (Donnachadh) played last Sunday.
Brogan is not the threat he once was.

JOD is out afaik. Young and Enright out as well seriously weakens us but at least we can look forward to having them for the summer.
If Donnchadh can keep up his scoring form it would be a huge plus. It's one area we have been seriously lacking in recent times, i.e. scoring wing forwards.
If I was EF I would start Barry in MF and let him horse into Fenton from the get go. He nulififed him in Tralee and another performance like that would be huge psychologically.
The big fear is being exposed in the backs when Dublin run at us with numbers. Someone will have to do a serious number on Kilkenny and Morely may very well be the man for that.
Dublin still hot favourites but there are reasons to be hopeful.

Hard to know which is the real Kerry. Was last Sunday a flash in the pan against a poor Tyrone. How do we explain our poor performance against Cavan. I think Dublin are coming back into the peleton. We need to go at them and put a dent in their confidence. They still seem to be able to get those last minute winning scores that Kerry and Tyrone were a decade ago.Put a stop to their gallop!

We know what's happened since then. Tadgh M is hugely impressive for me. He will develop into a superb CHB. I think we should start Barry. His confidence is up after the display he put in in Dublin. He has the ability

I suppose no pressure on us so having two games with 'the champs' can only do us good, 3rd time lucky at worst wouldn't make it a bad year.
It is 15 v 15/20 v 20 and if each of our heroes can pack in a little extra then it might be a teary Sunday afternoon in the fair city!

I think this Kerry team have lost to Dublin so often now that we might have a problem believing we can beat Dublin. So I think the belief we'd get from beating them at Croke Park would outweigh the fact we showed our hand.

Kerry to win next Sunday by 4 points. Dublin are a very good team but I wouldn't call them great. They've had some very 'lucky' breaks over the last number of years most notably against Kerry and Mayo in big matches (Kevin Mc goal in 2011.... How many steps?, Kevin mc challenge on Crowley last year, Kerry one point down in injury time and free straight in front of posts for Sheehan if correct call made, instead Dublin go down and man Crowley was marking slots point and Dubs win by two.... We need to believe more in ourselves, we are KERRY after all. We shouldn't be looking up to any team..... We have the talent, now we need to believe. We are better than this Dublin team! Have I stumbled onto the Mayo GAA blog in error ? All of these moments in matches that you think diminish the greatness of the Dublin team merely diminish the point you are trying to make . We are now debating if a team that won four leagues and four all irelands in 6 years is great ? Your point makes zero sense....

I was a bit dissallusioned after Cavan game and the retreat in the Dublin game when 4 points up. However the first half performance last Sunday and putting up 1-21 against the most negative team in the country gives me great grounds for confidence. Not sure why but I am really confident of a win on Sunday and also glad that Eamonn has upped the ante. The santamonius tone of Jim Gavin sticks in my craw every time I hear him interviewed. Eamonn right to retaliate. We'll lie down for no body and certainly not for smug Dubs

Your post is either a masterclass in irony or an indicator that I'd be wasting my time . Suffice to say every all Ireland won leaves a disgruntled opposition who can hang their grievances on "defining" moments in matches. It does not diminish the value of the achievement.

I agree there was a campaign against Keegan but that said his duel with Connolly couldn't be called legitimate tackling. He was constantly pulling out of him and probably sledging so Keegan was the architect of his own downfall

A couple of observations.
Kerry have a free shot at it this weekend. Unless they get mullered it can only help re building on the experience of playing Dublin in hq for the younger lads.
But... Fitzmaurice comments suggest he is feeling the strain. Don't remember him trying to influence officials previously. What happened in Tralee won't be allowed happen in Croke Park as the eye is on them (both). Hence the need for Eamonn to get the retaliation in first.

Skyblue, Fitzmaurice is most certainly not feeling the pressure, he knows he has the support of the county board and he fired a very important shot across the bow from a Kerry perspective. Last year Mayo lost the hugely important influence of Keegan as a direct result of a sustained and orchestrated campaign against him and to be fair nobody could suggest that a black card was justified in the biggest game of the year for his foul, yellow all the way.
Point is that with his comments the scribes will now have to consider the perspective of non Dubs and will need to do a little more that googling past games and sound bites. Trust me there are many outside of the county of Dublin who feel that the referees being chosen for major national games are being influenced due to their address or fear of offending the strategists at HQ who are making silly money off the backs of the Dublin wins. I think that the dubs are the best team out there but there are also teams that can turn them over and it is only right and fitting that they get a fair shot when they walk onto the field in Croker.
In recent years there has been an imbalance of incorrect decisions made in Kerry Dublin games, every ref will make questionable calls and to be fair they generally even themselves out over the course of games. Thing is that over the last number of meetings a bit of a sour taste has begun to develop in our mouths. Men living and working in the capital having to administer sporting justice in monstrous games has left the good people in Kerry wondering why a referee from another province is not selected. When I say another province I mean someone living in another province with an address in that province. To expect a resident of Dublin city not to be influenced by his situation is astonishing and would never even be a consideration in any other national sport.
I know my glasses are green and gold but win ore lose next Sunday come the championship one of the only three Dublin based referee options will be selected to officiate if we meet later in the year and that's a hard pill to swallow from a Kerry perspective. Would ye be happy if men from various counties who were resident in Kerry were put in charge of massive Ky v D games and by a strange coincidence managed to make a series of blunders at crucial stages of a questionable number of games.
Piss runs the right way when you are standing on top of the mountain, I'm delighted that a non resident is in charge next Sunday, he might make a bollox of the game but at least I will be able to say he had a bad day at the office and he wasn't trying to make his return to his particular office a little easier. We are all human after all, well with the exception of Gooch of course,,

'mullered' - fabulous word.
I don't think Eamonn's under any pressure, I think he's added another bit of ruthlessness to his profile. Dublin are somewhat 'sluggish' in this league, and that can't be good. How many times can you expect to claw back leads? For now, always. But...all good things come to an end.
Dublin are a better team in Croke park, worth a few points v if this game was in say Limerick.
I think we've a good shout, and we are getting better, and I think we have more scope for improvement. The weight of expectation to keep the unbeaten run, win 3 in a row, and specifically keep the hunger sharpened. It's a lot, and to avoid complacency.
I think this one will be tight, winning would be great but only if the manner in defeat, if beaten is bad, would I not be looking forward to the summer excitedly.
I can't see 30 players on pitch by end of 70 mins+

I certainly don't agree that Kerry have a free shot at the weekend. Another loss, especially a close one would raise a lot of psychological issues and would make the team wonder will they ever be beaten. A win by whatever means would be massive. In saying that I wouldn't be lynching Fitzmaurice if we lose. Dublin are better it's just a case of hoping Kerry can rise above them once every so often

Fitzmaurice is dead right. We are too slow at times in Kerry to voice our opinion to the media in fear we might be seen as whingers. But he had to come out and say something. The Dublin media have been getting into the heads of officials for a few years now. The Dublin media campaign against Keegan last year was a disgrace and no doubt let to his departure in the replay. A huge decision given the context of how he was influencing the game at the time. Now we have the same ex Dublin footballers, Curran et al, coming out with a similar campaign against Kerry. This holier-than-thou attitude is galling. This is no doubt a great Dublin side but they are as cynical as any other tram in the country. Sadly, the modern game is no place for the purists. Fitzmaurice was dead right to defend his players.

I am also happy with Fitzmaurice's comments - as long as the ref isn't mentioned after the final whistle. Refereeing errors that decide games shouldn't be brushed under the carpet. This whiter than white mentality is fine for Alice in Wonderland.

Paddy Neilan of Roscommon will be the referee. www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/right-man-for-dublin-v-kerry-final-has-not-refereed-any-toptier-games-this-season-35598304.html'Right man for Dublin v Kerry final' has not refereed any top-tier games this seasonThe GAA has defended the decision to appoint a referee who did not officiate at any Division 1 game this season to take charge of Sunday's Dublin-Kerry Allianz Football League final. Roscommon's Paddy Neilan has been chosen for a clash where the build-up has been marked by inflammatory statements from both counties, fuelling speculation that it will be a fiery affair. It comes just three weeks after the tempestuous Kerry-Dublin encounter in Tralee last month, where Tyrone referee Seán Hurson flashed13 yellow cards but still struggled to cope with the many outbreaks of indiscipline all over the pitch. Experience In the circumstances, it was expected that a referee with wide experience at the highest level would have been appointed for Sunday's game but instead Croke Park has opted for Neilan, who had three League outings so far this year - two in Division 2 (Derry v Down, Down v Galway) and one in Division 3 (Sligo v Armagh). He was appointed for only one Division 1 game last season and did not feature beyond Round 4 of the qualifiers in the championship. Patrick Doherty, GAA national match officials' manager, said that Neilan was on the top panel of referees and considered "the right man for the final on this occasion". A total of 42 referees were on the League panel, including all except one (Laois' Eddie Kinsella has retired) of the elite 18 from last year's Championship group. While there will be some surprise at Neilan's appointment after not giving him any Division 1 games this season, Doherty insisted that was not an issue. "He is a top-class referee who has shown all the necessary qualities. The rules are the same regardless of the division games are in," said Doherty.
