I can only see defeat with that team. Surely they won't put Mikey Geaney on Peter Harte. What a mismatch that would be. If i was Cathal O'Luing Denis Daly and Gavin Crolwey I would tell them take a hike. No games as a sub even. Like ciarrai said they're just making up the numbers. I would have definitely started Darren in the half forward line and Daly. Daithi Casey is better off staying away from them too. What a joke.

The way I see this is that we must separate the wheat from the chaff. The essential point is correct - I made a similar point in a post this week. The chaff is the tabloid dressing he put in there to be "Dunphyesque" - obsessed etc.

Misteallaigh,
I do wish you the best of luck with your wish list but God bless your innocence . In any case , I will add another . That players who clearly have been shown not be intercounty standard would be stood down for their and our sakes.

Poor team. I'm happy with the half back line, and to a lesser extent the full forward line (O'Brien and Keane on their day can have a good game) but the rest makes for tough reading.
Moran is excellent but a Maher-Moran partnership doesn't have enough legs. Fionn Fitzgerald should not be considered for corner back. Mikey Geaney is completely pointless- a player who wins ball only to give it straight back. Shanahan and McCarthy have come in and done fine but come summer they'll probably be playing with the juniors. We need this league to just end, and get Cooper, Enright, Young and the U21s back.

Very disappointed in the team selection. Not sure they will beat Tyrone.
Jack Barry is very unlucky.

Fairly predictable. Spillane played pretty poorly last week and savage has gone off the boil. Glad to see bjk get a start. No's 24 - 28 look to be making up the numbers at this stage and will probably drop out once the crokes and u21 contingent return Yeah, all very predictable. I’m convinced there's simply NO WAY Mike Geaney would start in a team ahead of Bryan Sheehan if Jim Gavin had that squad because Gavin being an ambitious manager would probably take the view that Sheehan from frees alone will return more on the scoreboard where it actually matters. Personally, I would add number 2 and number 10 in the bracket of making up the numbers. Being pragmatic about this it seems we're waiting for the fruit to ripen from the under 21s so we're just padding out the squad to fulfil fixtures at the moment.

Jack Barry is unlucky but I expect that Fitzmaurice would like to see Maher get a league start under his belt. I would expect the Moran-Barry axis to be in place for the Championship. Maher will be a great option off the bench.
I think Maher has been somewhat under-appreciated in his time with Kerry. He has been dogged with injuries, but he's a great competitor and had an excellent game v Dublin last year for a guy who had hardly played.

At the end of my tether with Fitzmaurice at this stage,Why no experimentation with goalkeepers? Shane Murphy was mentioned by management earlier in the year as being part of the panel
On what grounds do Kevin McCarthy & Ronan Shanahan get sustained runs in the team? (Not any slight on those guys) But why not Barry John or Jonathan Lyne? Where has Brendan Sullivan vanished to? What is O Luing,Conor Keane & Gavin Crowley warming the bench for? Why not proceed with Jack Barry & Jack Savage?
Where are the Crokes lads? Tony Brosnan was good enough to play championship last year so where is he this year? Kieran Donaghy seems to be able to choose when he returns to the panel while Stephen O Brien & Darran were pulled back in straight after their club campaign finished !
We are playing a blanket defense with no regard for our style of play,It's an absolute travesty what is happening to our team,We lauded Fitzmaurice for beating the most defensive team in history in 2014 but its an excuse now that we cant break down the Cavan blanket
And the biggest travesty is that we are about to let our greatest ever footballer retire at 33.
My only hope is history tells us that things can change very quickly in sport

Seems like Kerry are not too interested in winning this one. Barry John deserves a start though, along with Paul Geaney he is our best forward in the league.

I wont be putting the mortgage on this game, never mind makng the final I'd put the mortgage on it Sully and if I lost then at least someone had the sense to burn the banks at long last. Now putting the rent money on it is a different story but I'd be putting it on us not making it -and so would you if I am any judge of character! Funny how jockeys aren't allowed to gamble but I can't even talk about Paddy Power, well hopefully the gods will be kind to me for giving out tips in hard times, what with the cows not out and the tourist season yet to take off. I have a premonition that Sean Cavanagh will get travel sickness or maybe have a dodgy egg for breakfast. Ah now don't ask me which is the best bet, maybe a warm-up injury @ 100/1 would be worth risking a shilling on? A Red and Blue final would be nice and maybe Tyrone couldn't resist showing their hand? Seriously, anyone know how Fionn compares to say PM physically -weight, height? I wouldn't write Fionn off at all, he is not there without reason and hopefully he will fire as he has a great engine when he is on song. I'd be happy enough with things for the time of year. Maurice Fitz is some resource to have and we are so fortunate that they mesh together so well. I'm really looking forward to a team who don't know their arse from their elbow according to some, having to climb the Hogan stand to collect the auld canister one day in September.

The pessimism here before the Dublin game I felt was extreme, it was always going to be a dogfight, never an easy Dublin victory as some here had predicted, But the optimism and euphoria after the game as if all the problems had been solved was equally baffling. Similar defeatist attitude now coming into the Tyrone game , Maher is far from from the worst, I guess Fitzmaurice is going with experience against Tyrone, whether that works or not remains to be seen.

Agreed. We whinged and moaned long enough about Ulster teams. Tyrone in particular. Now there is systematic cynical play endemic in our game. It's dreadful to watch. We need to take a serious look in the mirror. The Dublin game was a shocker altogether. Where have we got to. I'm not naive enough to think we were angels in the noughties but this is a different level entirely. Thank God for the minors and now the U21s. Some very loose tackling aside on Wednesday night it was enjoyable to watch. Limitations of the opposition aside.

I would like to see a pattern to our play. I would like to see our forwards play with and have a cut. I would like to see our defence defend without having to drag the opposition down. I would like to see our management make substitutions that are pro active rather than reactive. Also, I believe that substituting workers for scorers is what is killing us and leading to second half fade outs. I would like to see the team gain back some confidence. our conversion rate has slipped with every game. I would like to see us control and manage a game properly. Fail to this on Sunday and we will lose. I would like to see us rise above the slyness and skulduggery that has punctuated Tyrone v Kerry games. I would like to see a game of football !!! Well said. Also one thing that we have been able to rely on over the years have been our forwards. We're at a point at the moment where we're completely relying on Paul Geaney alone. I find the whole thing bizarre with two of our greatest ever forwards, Mikey and Mossy Fitz, on the sideline.

The league gives us our only chance to experiment with different player/combinations, the experiment is nearly over.

We have had a poor league campaign highlighted only by the games we should have won but did not ( Mayo + Dublin), second half collapses ( Donegal/Mayo) and in last Sunday's forgettable encounter an absolutely awful display - there has not been much to enthuse about really. In contrast, I left Pairc Ui Rinn with a spring in my step confident in the future and for some of the players that future is now - Shane Ryan, Jason foley, Briain O'Beaglaoich, Gavin White, Andrew Barry, Sean O'Shea , Mattthew O'Sullivan is not far off - realistically we cannot introduce too many at the one time, equally I have no faith in the current set up to see any of the afore mentioned in championship action this summer. Jack O'Connor is patiently waiting in the wings, hopefully will over see and All Ireland winning U-21 team and will be ready when the time comes - he has his team in place, adding Diarmuid Murphy in the past few weeks as goal keeping coach, another good move. Kerry's exit from this year's championship should mark the end of Fitzmaurice's reign and another period of Jack as bainisteoir.

The same Tony Brosnan who wasn't starting for Crokes? Im also getting sick of this Shane Murphy love in. Sure he could be top class, but the key word being could be. A totally different game than playing club football

Total bull* article if you ask me. Paul curran knows well that dublin will beat kerry in a shoot out because dublin have better forwards at the moment when the u21s are not available. Does curran not realise that the kerry u21s are not available to fitzie for league games bar the first two as the priority is winning the all ireland at that grade. When kerry went four points up kerry didnt sit back as such...dublin had just brought on a rake of all stars to rescue things and they got a grip for a while although taking off jack barry made it easier for them. Mayo should have won the first day last year if they had been awarded that last second free in for the pickup. What would that tell us..you must contain dublin and not play the game on their terms. Think back to the 2011 semi final when both sides stood off each other...both teams won the all ireland within a year or so of that game...after they got their defense right they then began to expand their game. Think back to the shambolic league performance by kerry v dublin in 2016 and compare that to the league game in tralee. The only way to beat dublin is to keep them to 13 or so points in an arm wrestle of a game and hope to score more goals than them. Look back at the final fifteen minutes of last years semi final and see how dublin overran kerry by building out of defense..Fitzie has learned from that. Now it might all change by 2019 and kerry might be the big guns with the fire power up front but until that happens ..attrition had to bethe way unless ye want to be gallent losers of high scoring games. The only bit i agreed with in currans article is the bit of copying northern tactics which were derided in kerry. I always admired and found gripping these close combat arm wrestles. Its possible to do that while pointing out that the likes of ricey etc were a disgrace at times. Maybe people should be asking about paul currans motivation....too bad if opponents dont play naive football against dublin any more. Nothing naive about dublin since that 2014 semi final v donegal.

The holier than thou Dub media brigade are becoming a bit of a comic team at this stage- from the attacks on Keegan last year to the above! There wasnt too many articles written about Phillys gouging or Michael Darragh's antic last year- I'm not singling out the Dub players as everyone is at the same lark and trying to gain any advantage possible but the above article is pathetic tripe by a classless goon

If Lyne,M.Geaney are not good enough for a sustained run in the team why are they there? But why is Shanahan and McCarthy getting them ahead of Brendan Sullivan or anyone else. I agree about the hype about Shane Murphy but it was stated by management that he would be brought in after the Crokes campaign finished,It's an obvious problem for our team but we have failed to even explore other options Tony Brosnan wasnt starting for the crokes when he was thrown in against Clare,That didnt seem to bother management back then. John Payne has been excellent in all of Crokes games the past 12 months and not a peep about him but others are brought in willy nilly?

Jack has said that he would get bata agus bóthair if he used certain tactics and opponents will exploit that again if he is out of his comfort zone. Fitzy hasn't that issue as '14 final proved. Nobody is perfect, not even us hurlers on the ditch. Having said that Mickey and Maurice are party to decisions and far be it from me question their judgement. While GAA admin is hardly perfect, I'd say a Q&A with team management would show up the critics. I believe we can start winning Sam with the current bainisteori and once we break our duck we will be back at the top table bagging Celtic Crosses is a new golden era -only a matter of time, could it be this year, remember '14, Éamonn's first year when many of us had him condemned for the league performance and the boy would disgrace Kerry football against the likes of Gavin or McGuinness.

Very unfair comments on Mikey here. As far as I can see, he always puts it in for Kerry when he gets on.
There's always one or 2 players who seem to be targeted for criticism on here. BJK is another. If they're picked, they shouldn't be; if they're not picked, they're useless and shouldn't be on the panel. FFS, some fellas can't win!
