Hi all What sort of Kerry minor team are we looking at this year ? Are they as good as previous years ? Judging by last years management there in good hands

Looking at the school successes I would say we are very much of the same potential as previous teams, but nothing is sure. It is always hard to know where you are at minor level as I wouldn't be too aware of minors in other counties and talking about Limerick, where I reside these days, there isn't much optimism about their prospects.

how many of the lads who were the part of the panel at any stage of 2016, are underage in 2017?

Mike Potts, Diarmuid O'Connor, David Clifford, Brian Friel, Niall O'Donoghue, Cian O'Callaghan, Cian Gammell, Chris O'Donoghue, Fiachra Clifford, Ryan O'Neill, are all underage this year. They should win it again this year I think.

Very strong age group for Kerry again this year with some excellent talent. Getting onto the panel is a tough job in itself. Management have been working on ensuring good continuity from year to year - seems to be policy to have a core of 10+ surviving from an extended panel to backbone the next year which has worked well. All the usual health warnings regarding delivering their potential etc but the talent is there and the management are organised enough to suggest a long year for this years squad again. The Munster SF banana skin is the main one to watch out for. First game is home to Clare April 12th.

I was reliably informed that the team are of very high quality and competition for places on the panel of 33 will be intense, never mind the matchday 24 or first 15.
They are due to play Tipp or Cork away in the Munster Semi Final if they beat Clare in the 1/4 final. Cork away could be the toughest game en-route to winning an All Ireland.
I'll stick my neck out and say if they get to the Munster Final they will win the All Ireland.

That team is very close I'd say. I never saw Gammell playing in the forwards but if he's going well in then thats good. Another strong team this year. They will beat Clare and win Munster I think anyway. As far as other players Nelu is a very good keeper so not surprised if he makes it. Brian O'Regan (Ardfert) and Robbie Murphy (Stacks) must be close to the panel. As far as backs go Luka Brosnan (Desmonds) Sean O'Leary (Kilcummin) Pa Carey ( Laune Rangers) Brian O'Connor (Dingle) David Shanahan (Desmonds) Dylan Casey (Stacks) Lorcan McMonagle (Crokes) Sean Collins (O'Rahillys) Gearoid Fennessy (Kilgarvan) some of them must be close to it. Midfielders Joe O'Connor (Stacks) Ciaran Kennedy (Beaufort) Sean Horan (Scartaglen) Sean O'Connell (Cordal) would be close. Forwards Aaron McCarthy (Listry) Donnacha O'Sullivan ( Firies) Dara Devine (Na Gaeil) Jack Griffin ( Crokes) Daire Cleary (Laune Rangers) Dara Casey (Glenbeigh/Glenbeigh) Ian Roche (Glenflesk) Shay Walsh ( Scartaglen) Deividas Uosis (Dingle) Mike Kelleher ( Mitchels) some of them must be close. Cork have good forwards this year . Damien Gore and Colm O'Callaghan who were on the team last year and Mark Cronin , Cillian Murray , and Mark Brosnan from Christ ri so they will make it tough for any backline but Kerry should still beat them. Dublin Tyrone and Roscommon are supposed to be good in the other provinces.

Sean Collins & Joe O'Connor are not on minor panel; Mikey Kelliher is with the U-17s, not on minors.

Minors must be taking shape by now - as for the past three years the success at Hogan Cup is probably causing more grey hair for management as they attempt to find a starting team. Any updates on the panel/team?

Pace, power and really high skill levels should make for a decent team but as always with minors it's hard to predict.

Im confident they will beat Cork and win Munster. You never know after that but they are very strong again this year. A good few from last year. Some good u17s there also. The panel will be very hard to make. Mike Potts Niall Donoghue Ryan O'Neill Chris O'Dongohue Cian O'Callaghan if fit are sure to start in the backs. Cian Gammell of course but he is playing in the forwards for them. He can play midfield also. Dylan Casey and Luka Brosnan are fine defenders. They have to be close to the panel. Jack Griffin David Shanahan Pa Carey Sean O'Leary Brian O'Connor Pa Warren would be close. Barry O'Mahony and Diarmuid O'Connor that would be a good midfield. Sean and Eddie Horan would have to be close and Sean O'Connell. David Clifford Fiachra Clifford Donnacha O'Sullivan Brian Friel Aaron McCarthy Donal O'Sullivan Dara Devine Shay Walsh Deividas UoSis Gearoid Fitzgerald Daire Cleary are good forwards .

Which gets to play before the senior final in sept U18 runs as normal with the final before the senior final. The u17 runs alongside it from May onwards with the final of that being talked about being played before an All Ireland semi final.

Heard one of the better players suffered a season ending injury but obviously dont want to name names at this stage as it was second hand information.
Waterford scored 1 point in that game. I heard they had 2 training sessions before the U21 game with Kerry this year. You would wonder whats the point in Waterford entering these competitions when they obviously have no interest in football at inter county level.

Under 17 being played just this year as those players will get no other chance to represent their county. Next year minor will be under 17. I'd imagine any under 17s on minor panel would not be on Under 17 team.
