Third level championships starting this week. Billy Lyons from Causeway John Buckley from Lixnaw both started for CIT in the Fitzgibbon Cup today. Are there many Kerry lads with other colleges? Obviously there's going to be a lot in the football with the likes of UCC, CIT, UL etc
What way are the IT this year?

University of Limerick 3-19
Maynooth University 4-15 (AET)
The home outfit trailed by 4-8 to 1-11 with 10 minutes remaining in normal time and although Niall McDermott (0-2), Fergal Boland, Ian Burke (free) and Brendan O’Keefe all kicked points for UL in the closing stages, there was still four between the teams entering second-half stoppages.
A foul on McDermott handed UL a 62nd minute penalty, which Michael Geaney duly dispatched. When UL full-forward Shane Murphy kicked wide in the subsequent action, it appeared Maynooth were going to escape with a one-point win.
Referee Derek O’Mahoney allowed for one more play, though, with Fergal Boland splitting the posts to force extra time.
Maynooth played into the face of a stiff breeze in the opening period of extra-time, but outscored the hosts 0-5 to 1-0 to turnaround holding a 4-15 to 3-16 lead.
Shane Murphy brought it back to the minimum. Thereafter, UL sub Ian Burke was dismissed for a straight red card. The Limerick University, however, continued to push on and levelled matters through a McDermott free.
Maynooth’s Henry Walsh kicked wide with a late free and it was victoryto UL when sub Jack Goulding pointed in the 79th minute.

Not too many Kerry lads on the CIT team ; if the weather in Templemore was anything like it was in Kerry yesterday you'd wonder if the game should have gone ahead at all. www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/garda-overpower-cit-in-sigerson-cup-440956.htmlThe current state of play is the following 6 remaining Round 1 games will take place next wee. The UL and the DCU victories were the other 2 first round games. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 Round 1 St Mary's University College v N.U.I. Galway Garda College v Ulster University University College Dublin v Institute of Technology Sligo St Pats v University College Cork IT Carlow v Institute of Technology Tralee Athlone Institute of Technology v Dublin Institute of Technology Wednesday, February 08, 2017 Quarter Final Garda College / UU v UCD / IT Sligo DCU v NUIG / St Marys I can't find what way the draw went from the other 2 quarterfinals or when they are due to take place. The "four" possibilities for the other 2 quarter-finals are winner of St Pats v University College Cork winner of IT Carlow v Institute of Technology Tralee winner of Athlone Institute of Technology v Dublin Institute of Technology UL To confuse matters further I've a notion that someone told me Tralee would likely be playing UCC if they beat Athlone but I can't remember it 100% ( I think it was some time back in December when the draw was made) but I'm sure fixtures will appear closer to the games. No idea what way the semi-final is drawn either.

There aren't too many Kerry lads in CIT full stop.
I would suggest of Irish male students, UCC has a larger proportion of Kerrymen than CIT.

Why would someone from Kerry go to CIT instead of ITT? Few courses that CIT offer they can't find in Kerry or Limerick. Surprising to see how few Dublin lads play for DCU.

UL won today so they will meet UCD (with their all-Kerry midfield) in the semi final. With UCC also through there will be a lot of Kerry players on view that day.
I presume these games will be on TG4?

Friday Feb 17 2pm St Mary's v UCC 4pm UL v UCD About 6 Kerry lads starting for UL, 8 for UCC and the 2 for UCD so one full Kerry team lining out, and maybe 20 altogether.

St Mary's Belfast beat ucd by a point. And deservedly so even if ucd appeared to be denied a free in at the end to level it.
The stats show that st Mary's scored half their scoring chances while ucd only scored a third of theirs. Bascaul of Dublin got two goals inv the first half for ucd.
The wind was the dominant factor but it seemed to effect ucd more than st Mary's. Paul mannion missed a few scorable frees. Barry o Sullivan and jack Barry played well enough.
St Mary's deserved it. They scored seven points more than ucd, some of which were excellent scores. Jack mccaffrey didn't stand out.

Mick, a bit biased there re the kerry midfield duo for UCD, neither of whom played well at all.
