This article done by Pundit Arena is very worrying for Kerry Club football i come from a club in Tralee John Mitchels where we have no County Player but i think Eamon Fitzmaurice is pushing the boat against clubs. A long rule within Kerry circles was you always had your county players for first two county league games and the last one. But Eamon seems to have changed this which i think is a joke in my eyes. How he can do this for clubs who so heavily depend on there County Players such as Cromane Donnacha Walsh Valentia Brendan Sullivan where clubs strugle and especially in Division 5 where you have to win games at start or season over and you expect these clubs to play without them i just think Eamon has alot to answer for. www.punditarena.com/gaa/thepateam/club-football-kerry-gaa/

Therefore that site is unreliable. I am not saying the piece is false but wait for a secondary source.

It's highly likely that Kerry players will play no county league game this year. Possibly the last one, tops. Round 1 and Round 2 clash with national league. At best they might play the last game and at that most won't have to die to dead rubbers

At best they might play the last game and at that most won't have to die to dead rubbers That sums it up- it has been heading towards this for past few years; an attractive opening game on paper is the clash in Dingle between the locals € Strand Rd on 19th March- however, take out Paul & Mikey Geaney plus a possible 6 U-21s from Dingle with Strand Rd minus David Moran, Barry John, Jack Savage plus Cormac Coffey and suddenly the fixture does not look that attractive any more. The county leagues are looking more & more irrelevant.

75% of the Kerry players won't play any county league this year. As I said before the only potential game they might be available for will be the final round. Many of those fixtures may be meaningless, so players may not even tog. Players from junior and intermediate clubs could lose in rd1 of their championships. So it's highly possible that a decent share of Kerry players might only tog out once for their club this year. Excluding divisional championships which are nearly irrelevant now. Doesn't bode well for the future if the club game

Very sad to see,I feel the clubs should get access to their players for 3/4 games at the start of the year because those players usually set the tone for clubs and can put them in a strong position before they leave for Kerry duty.
SAYITASISEEIT says it well,County players don't train with clubs at all until they exit the All Ireland,Even around club championship in May the players are still training with Kerry one night.Glad the CPA are standing up for the club because they are really walking all over the clubs

Very disappointing development if true..... Could well be detrimental to the smaller clubs who possibly rely on County player(s). Can help clubs achieve promotion or avoid relegation.

Lads,This is happening,Look at the fixtures! I got this confirmed by our club manager. No county players will play until round 11 but are available for all championship games,Gonna be very tough on the likes of Templenoe who could possible lose 4 players,Dingle will be down 5. As we go down in the divisions it get's worse where the county players are usually the difference between a good year and a bad year.Is releasing them for 3/4 co.lge games at the start of the year too much to ask ?

The thing is you can't release them for games the same weekend as national league games. FitzMaurice will want to work on tactics and not have their players flogging it out in league games every weekend there isn't a National league game on. The summer is a write off for county players so it's hard to know when they would play these county league games

So if a player isn't on the panel for first round of National League can he play with his club then that weekend?

Kerry players will be training every Tuesday & Thursday with the county plus even times around club championship they will be training one night a week with Kerry.
An alternative club schedule below would release players for at least 4 possibly 5 co.league games plus not hampering the Kerry senior teams preparation. It wouldn't affect Kerry U21's nor Kerry Senior Hurling Team.
Not so long ago there was championship always played the week after the Munster Final but the age of county players playing club during the championship is dead.

That is a very exhaustive schedule for county players on the back of McGrath Cup/NFL in Jan/Feb while many of them also will be playing colleges and county u21 championship. Meanwhile, the club players don't get out of bed until March 12 and take a three week club holiday in June while the county players will still be attending weekend training camps.

From May 28th to Sep 17th they at most will play 5 games! Call to any local club pitch any Tuesday or Thursday/Friday night this week and you will see 25/30 club players training so your comment about "club players don't get out of bed until March 12" is baloney & many of them are also involved with college and U21 teams. Is it too much to ask that county players play 7/8 games with their club in a whole year?

Is it too much to ask that county players play 7/8 games with their club in a whole year? It probably is under the current format. Jan - April is a particularly demanding time of the year for young county players with college, u21 and NFL. We need something new and dramatic now which sees the All Irelands concluded by end of August and the All -Ireland club finals finished 6-8 weeks later. Summer club championship needs a major shot in the arm and is a brilliant product. There is far too much needless intercounty padding between Jan-June each year. A wasteful six months. A high end 4-6 week window in July/August where the top counties all collide against each other to claim Sam would be better use of time and product promotion. Cody captures the argument well here today in his interview. www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/brian-cody-slams-crazy-intercounty-calendar-and-throws-his-weight-behind-cpa-proposals-35399102.html
