The O'Donoghue Cup is fast becoming a private competition between those 2! It is well over 10 years another Club won out. I suppose this reflects the form shown by both Crokes and Rathmore outside their District and sets the bar for other EK clubs to try and reach.

But remember when it was good? And I mean really really good! Late 90's / early noughties any of about 6 teams could win it.

Legion have lost the last 3 finals so hardly just 2 clubs. But yes, it needs Glenflesk, Kilcummin, Currow, Gneeveguilla, Spa, challenging to be a great competition again. And spot on about the bar set very high by Rathmore and Crokes.

Crokes should get a much tougher test than yesterday against Rathmore this weekend who are going for 3 in a row, wonder gow it will pan out, east Kerry by far the strongest divisional championship with crokes rathmore legion kilcummin and spa all playing senior championship football on their own in the last 5 years. All have contributed strongly to Kerry underaged teams the last 5 or 6 years

Eoin Lawlor MOTM Rathmore go to forward all through. Crokes midfield uncharacteristically poor, masterstroke placing Brendan O Keefe on Daithi Casey, who was subbed. Kenneth O Keefe kickout strategy excellent bar 2 kickouts. Shane Ryan very good also, and John Moynihan as always comes up with wonder goal. Paul Murphy cleverly utilised in free role. Congrats to players and management. Big decision looms on next Manager with Denis the Clark club legend departing.

Great game today by Rathmore.I think today showed the Crokes weakness in defence when it meets good forwards.Fouled a lot and couldn't handle Shane Ryan at 14.Aidan O Mahony is some leader and to be fair to Rathmore they are one of the top 3 clubs in Kerry.

Anyone got the Crokes team line out? I sat beside a man at the county semi finals that had the opinion if Rathmore came through their semi final clash they were best equipped in the county to beat Crokes in the final.

Well done to Rathmore on a thoroughly deserved victory and a huge achievement in completing the 3 in a row. This is undoubtedly the one they will cherish out of all.
Rathmores game plan worked very well. When I saw the programme I was excited for what was in store because it looked like it would be a cracker with both sets of forward looking too strong for the defences. Crokes sprung from the traps and in the first ten minutes it looked like the forwards would put up a big score. Kieran O Leary and Jordi Kiely in particular looked to have the measure of their men. However, Crokes spurned a few goal chances and took the wrong option on a few occasions. Rathmore steadied the ship and got to grips with the forwards. Mikey Joe Kelliher had a torrid opening 20 minutes on Jordan Kiely but Rathmore management made the switch and Kiely was far less influential in the remainder of the game. Micheal Burns started the game extremely brightly kicking 3 early points off Cathal Murphy but Micheal thought his job was done then and his influence also deteriorated fairly lively. Colm was named on the 40 and roamed but was not his usual self and never troubled the scoreboard, he did have his usual ingenious moments. Conor O Sullivan was named CHB and did relatively well and managed a good point in the second half. Daithi Casey was well marshalled throughout by Brendan O Keeffe resulting in Daithi being withdrawn with about 15 minutes remaining. Tony Brosnan rarely troubled the scoreboard either but he did have the beating of his man Conor Jenkins who was substituted for fear of him being sent to the line....how he actually escaped a black card in this game is beyond me.
Rathmore midfield of Aidan O Mahony and Daniel O Sullivan dominated Ambrose and Johnny Buckley. Johnny just doesn't look fit, end of story. There is no way he should have played the last 3 games. Aidan O Mahony is a great warrior and also a good footballer. Ambrose is hit and miss and struggles for consistency.
Rathmore forwards seemed to have the measure of the Crokes defence. George O Keeffe lined out at wing forward with Alan O Sullivan picking him up and both were out of the game until the second half and George came to life then picking up breaks and being the link between the half back line and full forward line. Paul Murphy was picked by Fionn Fitzgerald and Paul won this battle comfortably, he really came into his own in the second half and expertly contributed to both defence and attack. Mark Reen was picked up by Gavin White, Reen picked a few points from play but Gavin also beat him to a few balls and went on a few of his trademark runs. David Buddy O Leary was marking Eoin Lawlor and Lawlor had a MOTM performance, he was everywhere picking up breaking balls, winning numerous frees and a being a constant thorn in Crokes side. Buddy was substituted at HT for Eoin Brosnan who had little impact on matters. Michael Smiler Moloney struggled to cope with Shane Ryan on top of the square and Ryan definitely won that battle. John Moynihan was well marshalled by Luke Quinn but Moynihan did strike for a trademark goal that oozed the class we all know he has.
Crokes were lacklustre and struggle against sides with half decent forwards (in fairness to Rathmore, their forwards are a good bit better than half decent too). It is an eye opener for Crokes and brings them back to reality before a Christmas break where they need to make up their minds about setting a defensive strategy to counter the extensive attacking options that Corofin hold. Until this is rectified, Crokes are facing another All Ireland semi final exit.
Well done to Rathmore again.

Congrats to Rathmore - some going to win 3 in a row in the O'Donoghue cup especially with the Crokes as strong as they are the last few years.
One thing I would say is that Crokes looked a very tired side, especially in the second half (and even coming up to half-time- I can't help but think that the number of games they have had the last while caught up with them. Going through the Crokes team and subs, there was only a handful of Crokes players who had even a decent game, with pretty much all the best performers on the Rathmore side. There was a lot of solid performances by the Rathmore lads but for me their MVP was Paul Murphy - I thought he got through a world of work.
