Will it be available online? Due to work it might be a while before I have time to visit Killarney and the Kerry shop again. I would even give an extra donation to Currans as it becomes clearer and clearer we need the centre of excellence to be completed sooner rather than later.

It should be 1997-2009 with 2014 an extra bonus.
1997-2014 wasn't really a single team while a handful (DÓS + ?) straddled 1997-2009.

It should be 1997-2009 with 2014 an extra bonus. Got to the semi final in 2016 and got beaten by the eventual All Ireland champions by just two points. Got to the final in 2015 and beaten by 3 points in a very low scoring game. Won Sam in 2014. Got to the semi final in 2013 and got beaten by the eventual All Ireland champions. Got to the quarter final in 2012 and got beaten by the eventual All Ireland champions. Got to the final in 2011 and beaten by 1 point. Got to the quarter final in 2010 and beaten by a Down team that we should beaten and that were beaten in the final by a Cork team that did very well to beat Dublin. Should have won it that year. Won Sam in 2009. Got to the final in 2008 and could have, should have, won that game. Most counties would kill for that record though it sounds a lot like Mayo's. With three minor titles on the trot, a few junior titles and a string of Hogan cup titles we should be able to manufacture another golden years DVD in the coming years.

I really hope it is a strong production with interviews and commentary and not just thrown together. The Golden Years DVD inspired a new generation of Kerry footballers and built the Kerry aura in every part of the country which we used to great effect to win tight games and raise cash. Best piece of marketing in GAA history and immortalized the players forever. I will take on all comers in a commentary competition of the Golden Years with the sound down. Have it off by heart like a Sunday mass.

I will look forward to the DVD a much as the next man or woman. A word of caution however....One may recall that the original Golden Years video begins with such a gala dinner. All the boys in their tuxedos etc. What followed? The great famine that's what! You wouldn't want to be big into piseogs is all I'm saying....

Not the same but a welcome development. The Golden years was truly the greatest era to date and for all the success of the Noughties it hasn't yet been bettered. So what will they call the new DVD?

Hopefully they do a good job. Something like those rugby review programs at the end of year that rte have done where a bunch of players talk over key moments. I would not be interested in a load of YouTube clips.

Statistically the noughties are Kerry's best ever decade. Eight finals contested, nine including the replay in 2000, Five won, Three of those NFL/All-Ireland doubles and six Munster championships won. Phenomenal, more so as Tyrone and Armagh were seriously competitive winning four of the other five.

Problem is the Golden Years spanned two decades and included a four and a three in a row as well as the one on its own. Not even counting Munster titles. There were loads. How many Leagues? Who cares but I was at at least one of them. They had to contend with one of the great Dublin teams who won four All Irelands during that time - one more than the great Tyrone team of the Noughties. As for Armagh, fair play to them but they only won one AIF and there are one-offs in every decade. Sorry it's the Golden Years every time much as I worship the Noughties team.

Were splitting hairs here, two phenomenal golden generations for Kerry football, littered with great footballers. It was a privilege to be growing up during the first one and regularly attending Croker. Would you care to name your combined Kerry 15 spanning the two eras?

I'll have a crack at a combined team. Be there to be shot down!
Diarmuid Murphy Marc O'Se John O'Keeffe Jimmy Deenihan
Tomas O'Se Tim Kennelly Seamus Moynihan
Jack O'Shea Darragh O'Se
Pat Spillane Declan O'Sullivan Ogie Moran
Colm Cooper Eoin Liston Mikey Sheey
(I left out Maurice as I wasnt sure if we were debating 00's or whatever)

An attempt at a combined 15.....yes I'm sure this has been done here a 100 times....but sure when did that stop us?
I could change my mind 50 times doing this. One way I approached it was to pick 7 from 70/80s and 7 from 2000 to now with Maurice Fitz as a half 'n' half for balance!
Diarmuid Murphy Marc John O'Keefe P Lynch Páidí Seamus Tomás Jacko Darragh Maurice Declan Pat Spillane Sheehy Liston Gooch
I felt like I was leaving too many class players out so picked a second team - many of whom could walk into my first selection.
Nelligan Tom Sull Mike Mac Deenihan Mahony Tim Kenelly Ger Lynch Ambrose Sean Walsh Power Ogie Galvin Mike Frank Star Egan

Funny I was thinking about that just as I wrote the post but more in terms of who from the Noughties would make the starting Golden Years team. I settled on Marc(because of the week that's in it), Moynihan, Darragh, Gooch and Maurice, if we're counting these years. That's five out of the 15 but I couldn't bring myself to decide which Golden Years players would be dropped to make way for them. Purely subjective of course and would depend on form and the nature of the opposition. Here's another exercise: Best Kerry Team from Golden Years plus Noughties plays best Dublin team from 70s and now. Who is on the teams and which team would win?

However, you'd have the say that the first era was far less competitive than that in which the later generations operated. Kerry and Dublin won 12 out of the 13 titles from '74 to '86, Offaly in 82' being the exception. And generally they didn't have much too bother getting to the final either. By contrast, the years from 2000 to 2012 saw 7 different winners. More than that though, there were now far more teams who, even if not necessarily contenders themselves, could beat you on the day. And of course an extra round to navigate at the business end. In that context, 6 finals on the trot, 8 in 10 years, was really remarkable.

I would not be interested in a load of YouTube clips. Have to disagree with you there. I would like to see it as mostly match action, with interviews kept to a minimum. The original Golden Years video is the template. My main concern over them covering 18 seasons is that it may be spread too thinly.

7. Moynihan, 8.Jacko, 9. Darragh, 11. Maurice, 12. Spillane, 13. Sheehy, 14. Bomber are nailed on starters.
2. Paidi 3. Johnno, and 15. Gooch could not be left out!
A whole mine field of decisions to be made after that. Number 4, one from Marc, Tom, Mike, - Denihan, Paudie Lynch, Mick Spillane
No. 5. Tomas, Tommy Doyle. Killian, Aidan and Ger Lynch were all great wing back. Tomas getting the nod if Paidi stays inside. It would be some call between Tomas and Paidi for the no.5 shirt.
No. 6. rests between the Horse and Tom Spillane - hard to split these two. The horse probably getting the nod. Mike Mac was an immense centre back.
No.10. Declan, Ger Power, Galvin. Probably Declan for footballing brilliance, ball carrying/retention and durability in the tackle.
Ogie Moran won eight medals on the forty, John Egan played championship football at number 10 and was probably as good as the gooch in the corner!
Number 1. Between Charlie and Diarmuid, both hugely reliable and excellent at their trade. Probably boils down to the generation of the selector picking his/her best 15. Probably Charlie for me based on legacy.
Number 4. Paudie Lynch was the consummate footballer, played championship football at 4, 7, 8 and 11 for Kerry in Croker. Probably gets my nod for the left corner back slot based on versatility and skill.
Super-sub, Seanie Walsh, sublime at 3, 8 and 14 for Kerry in Croker.
Grey area, leaving Ogie, John Egan and Power out - just not right............
PC challenged, no place for either Marc, Mike and Tom, the brilliant full back line of the noughties.
Indeed, two phenomenal generations of Kerry footballers.
Player of the two generations, Jacko, untouched, run away automatic selection. Peerless in the game.

Probably Charlie for me based on legacy. Charlie Nelligan for me - the fact that he kept Paudie O'Mahony out of the team shows how good he was. It's a close one all the same.

Diarmaid Murphys ability to find his men with the kickout was something that probably wasnt as appreciated as it should have been. I remember in the 2008 replay in Croker v Cork Moran came on as a sub just after a Cork goal equalised the game with about ten mins left. Moran called for the ball. Murphy put it over his head from 60 yards. I was in the Canal behind the goal and it was just a brilliant moment.
Moran fetched and 10 seconds later Colm goaled and Cork were beaten.

Were Tyrone 2003-2008 better than Dubs 78-79 Offaly 80-82 and Dubs 83-85 They were better than the current Dublin team in my book. Donegal had one or two years where they were as good as that Tyrone team and in 2014 they wiped the floor with them. Tyrone I think would beat them more often than not. They would do to Dublin what they did to us.

If you were to suggest he was better than Cluxton though you would be scoffed at despite the huge number of errors Cluxton makes(not saying he isn't a very good goalie before I'm set upon!!!!). Murphy was extremely underrated

Diarmuid
Marc John O' Tom O'
Paidi Flaherty Seamus
Jack O' Sean W
Maurice Declan Spillane
Sheehy Gooch Egan
Unlucky (subs to be brought on) Ogie, Mick Mac, Bomber, Power, Ger Lynch, J O'Donopghue
Flaherty does not get the recognition he deserves. The other centre backs, over the years, did their jobs well. Flaherty was a rock in '97. We needed players who could deliver game after game. He did. When you have that at centre back you have a good foundation.
Man for man Jack O and Walsh are the 2 best midfielders of that extended era.
The forwards - 3 geniuses Sheehy, Maurice, and Gooch with one of the greatest brains - Declan, greatest finishers Egan, and complete footballer Spillane.

You don't mention Tomás or Darragh Ó Sé - odd. Flaherty definitely should be in the mix rather than it being a straight fight between Kennelly and Moynihan. He was outstanding in 1997. It's a pity that he was probably finished with Kerry before turning 30. Glad to see Sean Walsh mentioned, though he would miss out on my XV (just).
