Would people be willing to pay 500 a year to a special ticket scheme to ensure these structures are in place and the best players are kept at home? Absolutely. Something will need to be put in place.

Ahh lads are ye seriously suggesting we pay players to stay at home to play for Kerry?
Dozens of GAA players have left county panels to pursue professional careers be it Shane Long to play soccer,Tiernan O Halloran going to rugby or even Jack McCaffery to go study medicine.
It's just life & for every Tadgh Kennelly,Zach Touhy and Pearse Hanley there will be dozens of Ciaran Kilkenny's,John Heslin's and Brendan Murphy's who will go for a look and return home with a few quid in his pocket.
Yeah it's tough on Kerry at the moment losing Marc & possibly David Clifford but who would begrudge them guys having a shot at a career as a superstar sportsman.
Lets focus on the guys who stick around,There are approx 150 young guys in Kerry under the age of 20 with all ireland winners medals in their pockets,There is still plenty talent floating about

What percentage of Mark O Connor and David Clifford would be likely to play senior for Kerry. Barring some catastrophy I would say the % would be quite high.

What percentage of county minors go on to play county senior? The last 4 wins before the recent 3 in a row produced as below. 1994 Barry O'Shea, Denis O'Dwyer, Mike Frank Russell. 1988 Peter O'Leary, Liam Flaherty, Pa Laide, Sean O'Sullivan.
!980 Ambrose O'Donovan, Willie Maher, Mike McAuliffe.
!975 Charlie Nelligan, Sean Walsh, Mick Spillane, Jack O'Shea, Vincent O'Connor.
There is a grey area here because some more players got a couple of runs in the league or a couple of runs in the championship during the '87 - '96 era but these are the players that became well established. Not all great minors make it - Paddy Curran and Jack Ferriter are 2 examples.

That is a mystery and the nearest comparison I can see is that great companies like Kerry Group have programs to progress recruits to board level, and it works. Come to think of it the All Blacks did an experiment in converting non-rugby playing tanks in their twenties, Jonah Lomu was a notable participant in that. Mind you if we squeeze 'em again on Sat that experiment might be questioned although they will still be greats!

Weeshie has good records of players who play minor for Kerry since 1970 and just looking at the five clubs that have had the biggest representation on Kerry Minor teams - taking the "most capped" players of each of the top five clubs we find 58 players that played 6 or more games for Kerry Minors (regardless of success or not) and of those I count 14 that have won a senior AI thereafter - obviously some of the more recent players may still come through. Confirms that not all minor stars make the grade thereafter as has been commented on many times.

These 15 players would give you the almost perfect team. Only 1 problem - there are 2 keepers. I have a vague memory of Charlie playing full back for Desmonds so I had to improvise. Otherwise it would be well capable of winning an AI.
O'Leary Charlie, Barry, O'Connor, Spillane, Flaherty, Ambrose, Jacko, Walsh, Laide, McAuliffe, O'Sullivan, Mike Frank, Maher, O'Dwyer.

Kerry can't afford to lose O'Connor and maybe Clifford in my opinion, contrary to what Kennelly peddles as to be the non net effect on Kerry football. Bull*.

That was Sean O'Sullivan of Sneem

this obsession with Tadhg Kennelly is beyond laughable at this stage.
if he wasnt around, dont worry, somebody else would be. players have been going to australia for years, many counties have lost big talents, not just us.

Aussie rules is obviously very beguiling to young lads who want to live the life and play professional football in God’s own sunshine. It can be a dream come true to the ones lucky enough to make the grade but there is also another side to the story for those who do not, and it should be articulated by those with that experience, like Sean Hurley. Leaving Kerry football for AFL is the most awful crime which our Kerry conscience refuses to commute.

I agree, so lets rob a bank, as someone is going to do it anyway! So Tadhg can do as he pleases and you suggest we can't even talk about it? No GAA man at heart would so what he is doing so he has a decision to make. He is the most prominent Kerry ex GAA man so he will cause us most pain. Hold your heads in shame when we start losing All Ireland finals by narrow margins - we have already. I look at the great project that is Currans and then see our amateur community sport being exploited by a professional one, and facilitated in doing so by some of us. I have never seen an issue that 99% felt exactly the same way. I think officials should be lobbied to abandon the international series immediately as courting them sends out the wrong message.

I am surprised though that successful businessmen haven't impressed upon GAA HQ and given leadership as it is a no brainer, we are dancing with the devil incarnate!

people forget that Tadhg himself, was one of our greatest ever prospects....if he wasnt pulling the strings here, they would end up going anyway.
i was involved in a trial game around 2000 for heading to australia so its not like its just arrived now and suddenly is an issue. Tadhg is getting stuck he certainly doesnt deserve.

Injuries seem to be a part and parcel of the game down there, hence the short career span of a handful of seasons.

Tadhg is getting stuck he certainly doesnt deserve. My heart bleats for Kennelly for any stick he might be getting for his role in the poaching of the cream of the next Kerry crop. I think there are two aspects to it, firstly it is fact that they couldn't have a better placed scout/recruiter than Tadhg as he has interchanged between the codes and he is from a famous Kerry GAA family. Many see Kerry as the home of Gaelic football and those who live outside the county will be more aware of the latter. I know Kerry fellas who would be seen as experts in other counties while at home in Kerry they'd be told to sit in the corner and stay quiet. It is also true that the syphoning of our pipeline is getting more serious by the day and unless there are big changes you will see the top players from each county opting to go even before they achieve the status that Mark has. The second aspect is how the GAA should respond and it is clear to me that we need to distance ourselves from that code is so far as we can, and the first step is to call time on the compromise rules series. What is unusual is that GAA HQ would normally be seen as conservative yet here they are exposing the game to a threat that we have no defense against, and all for mysterious reason. I personally thought the world of Tadhg and even penned a poem on his achievement, but I am wiser now as I see how vicious they can be when it comes down to competing with the GAA for talent. I don't blame Tadhg though I am rather disappointed that he would spearhead the raid and that alone will have more fellas saying well if he is making money out of it then so can I. Can anyone tell me what benefit there is from the compromise rules series? Maybe I am missing something here?

I'd really like to know why,Both associations have close ties,They have the International Rules,It would be the AFL's benefit to keep the "production line" sweet,I;m not talking about millions but say €20,000 for a player if he plays a competitive match.
