I can't understand why this topic is still on here. Is it going to run for the next 10 years. It has nothing to do with Kerry GAA. Time to move on.

Article on Oknubor and his "journey" www.balls.ie/gaa/stefan-okunbor-afl-adventure-414430There's a clip of him in action from his fifth game with the reserves and he looks to be making progress already. Hard to judge from just one clip - he showed some very nimble feet in tight areas and physically he seems to be more than holding his own, even if it is only the reserve level.

Su’re we had a Tadgh Kennelly & Tommy Walsh thread on here for ages & no one had a problem with it. I like being updated every so often on how our fellow kerrymen are doing.

After a great regular season for Mark O'Connor and Geelong who finished top of the AFL ladder, they reach the business end of the campaign tonight at the MCG.
They play 4th place Collingwood, with the winner going directly in to the last 4 and the loser facing a knockout game against defending champs the West Coast Eagles next weekend.
Game throws in at 7.50pm local time in Melbourne, 10.50am Irish time this morning. Live on BT Sport 1, with a repeat at 7.30pm on BT Sport 3.
Mark and Zach Tuohy are the last remaining Irish players in the comp, after Conor McKenna's Essendon were well beaten by West Coast yesterday.

So no point starting a rumour that he was seen sneaking into Fitzgerald stadium last night and is set for a surprise inclusion .......

Mark's top ranked Geelong Cats came up short against #4 Collingwood, losing by 10 points 9.7 (61) to 7.9 (51) in their first play-off game of 2019. This means Geelong play West Coast Eagles (winners of the 5 v 8 seeds) next weekend, but we'll be too busy to watch.

Ok, going to be shot for this but I reckon it's high time this thread finished up. 3 years and 16 pages now on a fella who doesn't even play football, never mind for Kerry. Like, where's the Stephen O'Brien thread?

Tadhg Kennelly is the covert threat, all this muddying the water nonsense that he is now concentrating on recruiting in America and where he not known, yet he is made to be a celebrity here by the same gombeens who criticise PK's judgement re Cox. Tadhg's endeavor has cost us how many Sams? E.g. If we had Mark last Sunday? The people behind this are among us, they include bookmakers!

We will not hear a word from Tadhg until he is looking for his next contract renewal and suddenly he will be considering his options and might be looking at a coaching gig over here. The same nonsense that he used to go on with in his playing days - it was like clockwork

Nothing against Mark O'Connor; don't know the chap from Adam. Could have been a huge player for us but he chose another code and good luck to him. However, an ongoing thread pining after him on the Kerry GAA forum is disrespectful to the fellas who do play for us. Imagine how your partner would feel if you kept banging on about a long-lost love from years ago.
If lads just want to follow the latest news from the caveman game, there's plenty of AFL websites around.

Jesus lads relax. Begrudery seems to be alive and well on the forum.
Tommy Walsh also went playing AFL and is back doing a job for Kerry and hopefully Marc will do the same.
I watched a bit of the game on Friday morning. Now I know nothing about the game but his team seemed under the cosh for the whole game. Marc got a few possessions but - and I'm sure Will Ye Kick It In brigade would have been delighted with him - wasted them by just kicking into into a scrum if 8 or 10 fellas.

Time the lock the thread This is bonkers stuff Exactly! Well over time to move on, it's embarrassing. It's not like Mark just had his head turned. O'Connor had a huge ambition since he was a young teenager to pursue a career in professional sport if possible and his now living his dream. Despite suggesting like many emigrants before him of one day maybe coming home, I don't expect to see Mark O'Connor back and I hope he does have a long and very successful professional sports career at this stage. If he decides to come back someday, great and if not, then so be it. Time for the last few stragglers to accept reality and yes, please close this thread.

I've been following Mark O'Connor's career from the time he played minor for Kerry, he was a fantastic footballer, like a man amongst kids in the All Ireland minor final that day, but I also think that it's not appropriate anymore that a thread solely on his endeavours is still on a "Kerry Gaa" forum. Geelong, and Marks career is available for all to follow on Twitter and Facebook and probably elsewhere, which I do also. I wish Mark all the very best in his career in AFL, as I'm sure do all Kerry people but a thread, I feel, is now inappropriate.

Approximately 125 players won AI minor medals in the last 6 years. Not all can make it at senior level. Good luck to them all in their sporting endeavours and their path in life. Some we will be acutely aware of like David Clifford and afew others. Some will will be very successful in other areas unconnected to football. But parity of esteem to all. Cannot understand how one who walked away from our game should have his own thread. Mindboggling.

I am interested in hearing how Mark O'Connor and Stefan Okunbar get on in Australia as I would like to know if they are making it or not. If they come back and are assets the Kerry then all the better but I don't think we should begrudge them if they do well out there. People say it has nothing to do with Kerry football even though it is two Kerry footballers over there who could have a major impact on us in the years to come. The bitterness here is a bit shameful.

All the best to Mark O'Connor as Geelong Cats take on West Coast Eagles tomorrow, 10:50am Irish time if my calculations are correct. Laoisman Zack Tuohy drops from a starting defender role to the interchange bench.
A win here sets up a game v Richmond next week for a place in the Grand Final.
The other side of the draw, in case anyone is interested, sees Brisbane play Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, with Collingwood awaiting the winners a week later for the other Grand Final spot.

Easy to call it bitterness, I for one think it's appalling that professional clubs can swan into Ireland and cherry pick our best and brightest. What do the club's and counties who have invested years and 1000s in training get in return? These clubs should be giving something back to the GAA and the local club that they are leaving. From a personal perspective I've zero respect for our ex players from here acting as scouts too. Good look to Mark and Stefan nothing against them lads at all.
