As we all know county players very rarely play with their clubs. But as we are all focused on Croke Park for the weekend Colm will (I presume) be playing with Crokes in a club game. This will be the situation all through the summer.
What a marketing opportunity this gives to the county board. I can see bigger than usual crowds at clubs games as Crokes come to town. Dads bringing their 10 year olds so that the son can say in 40 years time “I saw Colm playing above in the field in 2017”.
Imagine “Coming soon to a village near you, probably the greatest footballer of all time.”

I was in the upper hogan for this game, and had a birds eye view of this incident. I was never so incensed leaving a game. Peter "the great" took it on himself to literally jump up on Gooch and haul him to the ground. I lost all respect for Canavan after that. It was one of the most un-sportsmanly moves I've seen on any sports field! We're no angles in the Kingdom, and the cynicism that has crept in of late is certainly worrying, but "this beat all" as my father used to say! Farewell to the Gooch, what a joy to watch all these years! I grew up watching Maurice Fitz and thought after '97 we'd never see better, but along came the Red Headed wonder to entertain us for 15 years, if we ever find his equal it will be nothing short of amazing! It was a cynical challenge but it was hardly unprecedented. In fact, Tomas O'Se was dragged down about two seconds earlier by Ryan McMenamin - in a much more dramatic fashion, at that - and nobody seems to care. Poor Tomas gets no sympathy. To be fair, I can't say I saw the McMenamin incident. Tomas would naturally get less sympathy as he was well able to dish it out, though I don't think he'd be as cynical as to just hop up on someone's back to stop their progress. I think what angered me most with the Gooch incident was, in all likelihood Kerry would not have scored a goal, but we'll never know, and if the roles were reversed I can stand with hand on heart and say Gooch would not have performed such a foul..

Great to hear Fionn Fitz mention Gooch in his speech today. A lovely touch.

Entirely predictable tripe from him. I knew he was going to come out with that sh***. Glad Tomas called him out on his Canavan hypocrisy. RTE Sport need to have a look at themselves and think why are giving him this slot when he hasn't much to contribute except that kind of insulting behaviour. He clearly just has to demean those who were and are far superior footballers than he could ever hope to have been.

I don't even get annoyed about Brolly, you can't take him seriously.

I don't even get annoyed about Brolly, you can't take him seriously. No, you can't, though I agree with him on some stuff. However it pisses me off that he was able to dominate and ruin the (probably final) item about Gooch. The two lads tried their best to shut him up, both visibly irritated, but Lester was useless there.

The fact the other three all disagreed with him made him look more like a clown with a bitter agenda which in turn makes Cooper look better.

50,000 in Croke Park today gave a reverential round of applause for the Gooch. That says a lot more than a mistaken contrarian.

Lovely touch in croker today to show the video for gooch and having Fionn mention him at the end was class. You'd nearly feel sorry for Brolly, either he really is that stupid enough to believe what he's saying or he's a bitter twisted individual who enjoys trying to smite others. Either way it's sad and reflects poorly on him. Rte are worse for having him, you could have had some good memories from Tomas and Whelan but they're looking for the controversy again.

Brolly = A$$HOLE. The only low point of my day was the misfortune of reading his article in the paper. What is it they say about a minority of one??

Great to see the very fitting tribute and the generous response from the Dublin supporters. Also Fionn's acknowledgement in his speech was first class. The gentleman from Derry may take his small minded attitude elsewhere.

I have said it before and I say it again (and for the last time I hope) - with regard to that idiot, until we press the ignore button on him he will be paraded out by RTE time and time again as he creates controversey which helps numbers etc... IGNORE and he will go away.

Colm Cooper was Kerry's top scorer in the following games:
vs Tyrone 2005* vs Armagh 2006 vs Tyrone 2008* vs Down 2010* vs Tyrone 2012* vs Donegal 2012
In those starred games he was the top scorer on the pitch.

I can imagine it was a difficult day for Colm. First time since 2001 that Kerry went into a major match in Dublin without him around the panel. Yes I know there was 2014 but this was different.
I doubt he'd have got much peace if he went to the match, Marty would have had to find him for an 'exclusive' interview.....

I don't post much these days but Brolly did irritate me yesterday. He goes on about Canavan being the greatest but not so long ago, he stated that Canavan is specialist in “diving, feigning injury, and getting countless opponents sent off.” and that Colm is “slightly more perfect in his skill set, but Canavan was the warrior-general” and problem solver on the field. Brolly, forever the barrister, cherry picks Colm’s games and dismisses the qualities of his opponents while emphasising the winning games that Canavan was in, ignoring the years and games that he lost and didn’t solve the problems on the field against some of the same teams that he dismisses, when they played against Colm and Kerry. It’s a tactic by Brolly, to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of Colm’s winning games that may contradict Brolly’s position-confirmation bias at its best-good one Brolly, class barrister, crap critical thinker of the GAA and Colm Cooper. Rant over!

Not wanting to give Br***y any more attention but I saw the interview for the first time and what struck me was not the habitual ravings of my learned friend as such is only to be expected from that quarter. Rather the feeling that this was deliberately set up by Lyster in what was billed as a tribute to Colm. Giving him the introductory remarks as in "we know you have different views Joe" was giving him an exclusive platform to air them and to ignorantly shout down any contrary views. RTE should be ashamed of themselves but as Lyster's smirk at the end showed they are rubbing their hands in glee at the ratings boost to come. "No show like a Joe show" indeed! 😡

I've stopped listening to this guy when he spouts about Kerry. Crapping on from a one medal platform, might be considered a pauper in Kerry. Similar to smiler, one medal Curran last week and his offering.

A bit of theatre to boost the ratings. Spillane and Brolly could be seen laughing at each other after a phoney row a few years ago ...again about canavan and cooper if i remember correctly. TG4 would never do that. Too much respect for the players. Canavan must be mortified by all of this. Tyrone reached 3 finals but there were lots of years there when they didnt reach the required level and were underperformers... Including canavan. Anyway...pity TG4 dont have exclusive rights to GAA . A fella would be nearly tempted to sign up for sky...

Did I not read an article from Darragh O Se last year when he said that he was talking to canavan before some game in the media area when he was a pundit in croke pk & that when brolly came in with his usual bravado that canavan told him to f$$k off & walked away. I don't think the northern boys are too happy with him either. Unfortunately he will continue until RTE decide to get rid of him but they obviously like the controversy that he brings to the table. He mustn't be a pub drinker as I'd say he'd get a few digs every night he'd be out.

Canavan was gritty as, along with his brilliancy.

Gooch added to RTE panel for the summer. Hard to see him being impartial given he's so soon out of the game but he will grow into it no doubt
