They have the best squad again this year no doubt. McCaffrey is a big bonus this year. I think Fitzsimons will surely start this year along with Cooper and McMahon in the full back line. McCarthy Cian Sullivan and McCaffrey I think anyway. Small will lose out but a great sub to have. Lowndes Daly and Byrne are good subs also. MacAuley went back a bit last year so it will be interesting how he goes this year and how Gavin picks the team. What's the story with that Shane Carthy ? Is he injured ?. Flynn will be under pressure this year to keep his place. Costello and this new guy Scully will be looking at his position. McManamon and Kilkenny will make up the half forwards. The full forward line will be interesting. Rock will start you have Andrews Mannion Brogan young O'Callaghan and O'Gara going for two spots. Nice to have options. nacrocaigh, Fair points and yes it could possibly pan out that way. Although Cian played corner back in 2011 All Ireland Final and he could eadily go back there and still sweep. Half back line of McCarthy , Small, Jack. If fit and playing to form midfield Fenton and MDMC. Half forward line would be Flynn, , Kilkenny, Connolly. It won't matter where Connolly is named on team sheet. Dean Rock up front and then any two from Brogan, Kevmc, Mannion, Costello, O Gara, Andrews. Con o Callaghan (who I think is the most skiillful young guy I've seen in a while) . Although Eric Lowndes, Emmet o Conghaile , Conor mc Hugh, Niall Scully, Colm Basquel,. Ciaran Reddin, Robbie mc Daid, we all be hoping for good league time to impress, while other guys are away.

How did i forget Connolly. yes of course even better options. O'Callaghan is very skillful. A nice headache for Gavin to have.

Con OCallaghan is as brave as they come too going by the way he led the line in the club championship in Leinster. He will be a great player for Dublin football anda huge loss to the hurling scene at intercounty level. He is a grandson of Sean Og OCeallachain as far as far as I know

Clontarf is sports mad; particularly GAA and rugby. We are spoiled for choice in Clontarf. Rugby is big and always was (not with me). Cricket is popular but still a bit niche (love it). There is a very strong tennis culb. Soccer is a shambles of a club but still gets lots of lads playing. The GAA club is on a big upward spiral. We have 1400 juvenile members alone. Over 400 kids attend our nursery on a saturday morning. Last year our seniors got promoted to Division 1. Our minors won the Division 1 league and Championship. We have 7 girls on the Dublin Ladies Minor panel, out of 30. There has been a huge emphasis in the last three years on strength and conditioning and it has really paid off. We were always seen as push overs...not any more. The boys and girls national schools have won all around them in the last few years. There has been huge success in hurling too. Jack Mc Caffery was actually able to win a junior championship with the hurlers because he wasn't attached to the Dubs squad. And our Lotto jackpot has just reached €17,000. You can sign up online at Clontarfgaa.com 😉 We will be ok once Tadhg Kennelly doesnt start hanging around Dublin 3. We are spoiled for choice!

1400 juvenile members in one club?!
I would suggest that is more than all of the clubs in South Kerry and North Kerry combined.

I've lived in Ballyboden for years and clubs like St. Enda's, Kilmacud Crokes, but also Clondalkin, St. Vincent's and others have scary amounts of young players. Most of the senior teams in Dublin have a second and third team in the intermediate and junior championships respectively and they could probably field 3 more teams as well if they wanted to. I read a report last year on the GAA in Dublin, their year report, and there are more players in Dublin than in all Munster counties combined. Though Cork are by far the largest county in Munster by player numbers they are dwarfed by Dublin. At senior level that doesn't seem to be the case though which means the bulk of Dublin's numbers are juveniles and it shows how much work has been done in Dublin in recent years.

And presumably with large numbers of them lost at adult stage to the game. And the influx of country players.
Surely the time has come to accommodate a second Dublin county team at NFL and senior championship level. Not a divisive North - South divide but Dublin players from numbers 30-60? Dublin's third team breezed through the O'Byrne Cup this January beating other first team selections in Leinster.
The county is vast in terms of playing numbers and resources. A lot of very good players in Dublin are stuck in a bottle neck with no access to county football due to shear numbers.

the Dublin ladies have a great team now and are unlucky that Cork are around at this time. The Dublin ladies would nearly win the Leinster football championship at the moment.
I expect Dublin to have a few football teams in the future. Maybe in the 2030s. Its not tenable going forward to have just one team. I'd say that its the secret reason why the GAA are pumping so much money in.

Dublin have engulfed the Leinster championship. Only for the presence of Mayo and Kerry Dublin would also have engulfed the game countrywide at national level.

Scarily like Kerry, and Offaly in the early 1980s. Throw Dublin in from 83-85. Did you worry about the championships being engulfed back then? At least most of the semifinals, and finals have been very close the past few years, unlike some of the 80s, late 70s, and 2004, 2006, 2007, 09.....,,

Shocking to lose at home to Mayo, when will fitzmaurice see that Murphy is not a forward, never will be, four legion men in the squad 1 rathmore this shows guys are not picked on form or merit, county championship form doesn't seem to matter, out of new guys Adrian Spillane was only one picked on county champ form it looks lik, Conor Keane never inter county standard playing bad football with two years, mikey Geaney not up to standard, donnacha Walsh and Murphy too defensive minded. Savage looks bright, Ronan Shanahan not up to this standard didn't stand out in county champ so where was his form to get picked, mikey sheehy perhaps, shocking on the line again no clue

Joe McQuillans final free to Dublin was what we have come to expect at this stage. Fitzsimons loses possession and is rewarded with a free.
The Tyrone lad got a red card earlier for what seems like the crime of falling backwards after being pushed by Johnny Cooper.
We are so used to this now that its hardly worth talking about anymore.

Agree last free was soft. As for the sending off Bradley elbowed Johnny Cooper in face before that footage and he had to go. Johnny is no angel and had wound Bradley up to get a reaction which he got. McQuillan frustrated both sets of supporters equally. Where Tyrone would be agrieved for the last free and the black card, we were getting increasingly frustrated with no action being taken for off the ball stuff. Mc Cory had his arms around Kilkenny holding him back when the ball was up the other end of the field on numerous occasions We felt we were getting penalised for tackles that when Tyrone done it he was letting them away with it . Obviously Tyrone supporters will see it difervently. Game was very hard to watch first half , second half was a bit better. Happy with the test, Tyrone are a tough team. Who would have been more ready for this encounter than us .

Terrible night for football but that Joe McQuillan is an absolute disgrace ... That free for the draw was absolutely unbelievable ... I would love to sit McQuillan down as ask him exactly what he saw there .. unreal and extremely disappointing to see something so obviously blatantly wrong happen... I mean, he gifted that point 100% ... awful Dublin will probably be happy that they came back into it and Tyrone should be very happy that they know they really should have won .. so all in all, not a bad night for either team... We're getting closer I think !! EDIT:- Still no bloody Free taker though ... You'll win bugger all if you cant take your free's.. We also still look short on good scoring forwards ... If we dont sort these issues out it will be a repeat of the last 2 years .. we'll get so far but no further..

Nothing new about the smell of sulphur, Dublin, McQuillan and the home comforts of Croke Park in the same sentence. All that is missing is an extra padded armchair for Gavin on the sideline and a foot stool. Surely Hawkeye should be stood down for NFL games in Croke Park as it gives Dublin a further advantage over the rest of the counties in Div 1 while the Spring Series farcically continues in Croke Park?

So how about Cork? A draw against Galway, a loss against Kildare and now a very tough opponent in Fermanagh. They have a home game, but the tightness of PUR will probably benefit Fermanagh more. A must win for Cork surely otherwise they will definitely not promote back to division 1 and might even be close to division 3. Very poor performances by Cork though one shouldn't snub Kildare and Galway. Kildare surely in line to promote of they keep developing this way.

Against Tyrone again Dublin didn't dominate and in fact came quite close to a loss. Of course, it is early in the year and there won't be much training done yet, but are Dublin going backwards? I didn't find them very impressive in both finals last year and it was experience more than anything that won it for them. Dublin are surely the benchmark, but Tyrone are closing in on them. It wasn't a great day for football and that levels the game out, but Tyrone seem to rely too much on defence still. I'm still not convinced that packing the defence and stopping the opposition is the tactic to go. Tyrone need a freetaker and as the season moves into summer need to be faster. Tyrone still break out on the counter and run it all the way to the other side. The more effective teams will not let them run on the counter. Tyrone should win Ulster on current form, but I'm impressed with Donegal youngsters so far. Didn't expect them to be as good as they seem to be. Donegal also evolved from just 13 men behind the ball. Will Tyrone mix it up and become less defensive during the summer season?

Unlike the people that were there I didn't see the elbow, but it was sure it was a serious offence if the ref talked to the linesmen and immediately went for red. Dublin again struggled with the blanket defense, but the weather didn't do them any favours either. Tyrone are very, very disciplined when it comes to tackling, but quite cynical when it comes to off the ball stuff. It has been pointed out over and over, but Tyrone are still the masters at getting under the opposition skin. Even after reading Mickey Harte's book I'm still amazed that a man who comes across as a gentleman in interviews and on the sideline can have such a negative attitude at times. It seems to be winning at all costs. It might be that it's just rhetoric to sell the book, but it does seem to be endemic in Tyrone football that as long as you win nobody cares how the game was won. I hope that is not the case, but it seems to me like that and I'm not the only one that has that perception. Mickey Harte is a true master though at realising the players he has and what they can do. He usually gets the tactics right and does what he can to win games. Tyrone nearly pulled it off and a very dubious free towards the end made it a draw. I don't think Jim Gavin would have been overly disappointed had the Dubs lost the game as they played well and nearly clawed back the lead. Joe McQuillan did his best to ruin the game and he did his best to level the game towards the end. In 2011 and 2013 McQuillan didn't have the best performances in the final either and though I don't believe, like some obviously do, that he favours the Dubs, I do think he is a poor ref and the Dubs probably have their homework done on him, knowing what it takes to influence him. That said though, he didn't do Dublin any huge favours either, except for the free towards the end, and I doubt anyone left Croke Park being happy about the ref. It is always bad if we talk about the ref after a game, but more than once those decisions by referees have ruined games. I'm sure that anyone attending the Dublin Tyrone match will have noticed a lot more off the ball stuff, but it seems like McQuillan is a referee that often lets matches run out of control. I'm sure that Tyrone will travel to Cavan confidently as they have beaten them more often than the other way round. Cavan might have won the first time they played this year, but I'm sure that Tyrone will be better prepared this time. Dublin face a tough trip to Donegal though I would be confident Dublin experience will win that against a young Donegal team.

Terribly disappointing that Tipperary were beaten at home . Some results by what are known as second tier teams in the NFL annoy me. A priority for a team like,Tipp should be to,win their division or least get promotion. Surely, if they are capable of getting to an All-Ireland semifinal they should be capable of achieving that goal.
When it comes to the championship a lot of the lesser teams are champion moaners regarding resources etc. Perhaps, if they set realistic goals at the start of the year , learning to crawl, before they try walking , more favourable results would accrue come championship time . That means mucking in during winter time and not wait for a more glamourous stage.
Similarly, after taking Kerry to extra time in the McGrath cup Limerick follow up with a poor NFL. One wonders if some of the weaker want a free pass to the glory days. That is not how life pans out I fear.

All managers that have any ambition have a lot of work done before Christmas - usually off the record. Liam Kearns seems to have done nothing so I don't expect to see Tipperary anywhere near an AI semi final this year.
