Fitzmaurice will have to try a lot of players in the League regardless of the results.
Goalkeepers : Shane Murphy (Dr.Crokes) Dara O'Shea (Ballydonoghue)
Backs: Gavin Crowley (Templenoe) Nathan Breen (Beaufort) Jason Foley (Ballydonoghue) Tom O'Sullivan (Dingle) Patrick Clifford (Templenoe) Gavin White (Dr.Crokes) You add Brian O'Beaglaoich Tadhg Morley Mark Griffin Shane Enright Peter Crowley Killian Young that's plenty options. I would like to see Paul Murphy go back wing back and try Mark Griffin at center back.
1 Shane Murphy/Dara O'Shea 2 Brian O'Beaglaoich/Nathan Breen 3 Jason Foley/Tadhg Morley 4 Shane Enright/Tom O'Sullivan/Gavin Crowley 5 Paul Murphy/Patrick Clifford/Fionn Fitzgerald 6 Mark Griffin/Killian Young/Andrew Barry 7 Peter Crowley/Gavin White some thing like that you could give them all games at some point.
Midfielders: Barry O'Sullivan (Dingle) and Brendan O'Sullivan (Valentia) for sure and Anthony Maher David Moran also but I would like to see him tried at Full Forward. It's hard to see anyone else maybe John Mark Foley from Kenmare.
8 Anthony Maher/Brendan O'Sullivan/Johnny Buckley 9 Barry O'Sullivan/David Moran/John M.Foley
Forwards: Daithi Casey (Dr.Crokes) Mark Reen (Rathmore) Adrian Spillane (Templenoe) Brian Ó Seanacháin (Ballydonoghue) Liam Carey (Beaufort) Killian Spillane (Templenoe) Conor Geaney (Dingle) and Tony Brosnan (Dr.Crokes) would be some forwrds I would like to see. You add James O'Donoghue Paul Geaney Mike Geaney BJ Keane John Buckley Darren O'Sullivan and Stephen O'Brien to that list.
10 Adrian Spillane/Stephen O'Brien/Brian O'Seanachain 11 John Buckley/Liam Carey 12 Daithi Casey/Mikey Geaney/John Lyne 13 Paul Geaney/BJ Keane/Tony Brosnan/Killian Spillane 14 David Moran/Paul Geaney 15 James O'Donoghue/Darren O'Sullivan/Mark Reen/Conor Geaney
I think Brian Kelly and Brendan Kealy are still options for Goalkeeper but Im not confident in either.
I think O'Mahony will retire. Great servant but I think he's just too old now. I think you rest Cooper Donnach and Donaghy if he comes back. Give them a break. I really can't see Sheehan getting near the team. Im sure Fitzmaurice will play him though.
I think Sean O'Shea (Kenmare) and Tom Leo O'Sullivan (Dingle) are very good prospects but they might be a year away. leave them with the U21s for now. I would not rule out players like Jack Barry (Na Gaeil) Jack Savage (O'Rahilly's) Dara O'Shea (Kenmare) Rob Wharton (Renard) Dave Foran (St.Senans) getting a game either we will see but he has to experiment a bit.

Very interesting and informative Nacrocaigh.
If he tries to give too many game time he will not see enough of them to make decisions for the championship panel.

Above all else for 2017, Kerry need a fully fit and focused James O'Donoghue. A full league campaign and we'll hopefully see the best of him similar to 2013 & 2014.

Some good thoughts there Nacrocaigh. I was happy Fitz stayed on, but this has been one of my problems with him, his inate conservative streak. It has been very hard for younger or fringe players to get a shot in the jersey during his rain. Then, some of those who in my eyes are definitely deserving of a chance have got little or none, while others less worthy (to me) have got the shot or multiple shots. Denis Daly from Mary's is one fella who looked to me last year like he was worthy of a go at half-forward or half back possibly. He's injured at the moment I think though. Another guy I like the look of is Jack Morgan from Stacks. I'm not sure what his best position is, but athletically and in terms of football ability I think he has it. Mike Foley from Spa is another guy I was was very impressd with but haven't seen him play in a while. Either way, I hope we see some rebuilding signs from Fitz this spring and as mentioned, there is zero point in seeing Donnacha Walsh, Kealy, Brian Kelly, Paul Geaney and a few more in every league game.

That was one of the reasons I wanted him gone. Fine we went to the league final but we basically had the same panel for the championship. Morley and O'Beaglaoich were new but he didn't try a new keeper all year. We ended up with Donaghy at midfield . Most of the same old heads. We new the outcome defeat again to Dublin. I have no confidence in him to bring in youth . I'm not saying he should try out all those players I mentioned but he has to gamble more and take chances. Try different things like Griffin at No.6 or Moran at No.14 . Jason Foley for me is the best full back in Kerry now so why wait. Gavin White Andrew Barry Tom Sullivan Patrick Clifford should all be tried. Barry O Sullivan has to be tried. Adrian Spillane Brian O Seanachain Conor Geaney Killian Spillane have to be tried. I dunno maybe he thinks they have to be a certain age I dunno. I do know this going back to the same old bunch won't work next year that's for sure.

Great post nacrocaigh as a matter of interest has conor Keane slipped off the radar altogether I know he is gone from the under 21s this year, and for whatever reason wasn't on the under 21 panel last year when they were blighted with injuries

He played for Legion against Spa in the O'Donoghue Cup a few weeks ago. He had a lot of injuries the last couple of years. Good player if he could stay healthy and get back to form who knows. Podge O'Connor is going to America for a while I heard.

Jason Foley in at full back seems like an absolute no brainer anyway. Its a position we have been putting square pegs into round holes since Barry O'Shea to be honest!
Don't know if this whole policy of letting fellas "pay their dues" in the U21s, while admirable in practice, is simply hampering us and causing fellas to lose appetite somewhat in this formative years after minor with other distractions..... college, AFL contracts and what not.

I agree that youth is the only way forward. Kerry have lost many and All Ireland by sticking too long with veteran players. But.... who is there at the moment to take over from EF in 2016 of he were to step down? Leave Jack out of it. He is doing the u21s.

I am a huge admirer of Jason Foley and I will be very surprised if he does not become a great senior fullback. Next year? Not sure . As far as I know he has another u21 year. More importantly I thought he struggled against the Cork full forward at u21 this year. That Cork player , Peter Kelliher, is very good but also very powerful . He certainly was too powerful that night and I came feeling that Jason would need a lot of time in the gym to cope with senior players of that ability and size. No doubt he will get that gym work but whether that will have him primed for 2017 is uncertain.
In any case , on the evidence of the form of Mark Griffin in 2016 , our needs at full back are not as acute as heretofore.

It's been confirmed that the Kerry v Dublin NFL game will be under lights in Tralee Saturday March 18th. Kind of clashing with the Ireland v England rugby game, which could be a Grand Slam decider. Glad the game is in Tralee, we need it here, but why not put it on the Sunday, like it was originally planned. Hopefully Ireland will be out of sight by halftime (Ultan with a couple of tries), and we can celebrate in the Austin Stack Park by beating the Dubs.

A 3/4 empty Fitzgerald Stadium on a Sunday just doesn't compare to 15K people packed into Austin Stack Park on a cold Saturday night under lights v the Dubs. Really looking forward to that.

Let common sense prevail and change the time of the Kerry V Dublin to 7-45 on the Saturday evening. This will allow Kerry GAA to maximize the attendance and associated revenue. Plenty of time to allow the TV companies to agree in best interests of all parties

I think/hope Jason will be eased into FB, like Ronan O'Gara/Johnny Sexton transition, blood the likes of Foley in the league and if they are good enough they are old enough, still it is a massive step up and the Ballydonoghue in him will play a big part, I think he is focusing less on club and a few inter-county gruellings will solve that.

Hopefully It is a dry night, as for getting a seat, that would require a long cold preceding lock-in, not for the faint hearted on Paddys weekend!. Is Tralee really the correct venue for a Kerry v Dublin tie? Dublin get an inordinate amount of televised games. A real pain in the arse having to miss a Six Nations game because of a fixture clash of timing, more so if Ireland are challenging for a slam, not an unrealistic possibility now that Ireland have lowered the All Blacks.

Maurice Fitzgerald may join Kerry backroom team Sunday, November 27, 2016 By Tony Leen Sports Editor Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald is in the frame to join manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice’s Kingdom management team next season. The St Mary’s, Caherciveen All-Ireland winner in 1997 and 2000 is favoured to replace Diarmuid Murphy, who has stepped down, as a selector in 2017, with Stephen Stack and Noel Kennelly also mentioned as possible candidates. Fitzgerald (47) successfully managed his club St Mary’s to a Kerry Intermediate Championship title last year and followed that up with the All-Ireland club title last February in Croke Park against Mayo champions Hollymount-Carramore. A year ago he was still lining out for the club in the County League at 46. He is also coaching Coláiste na Sceilge’s senior colleges team this season. If Fitzgerald joins Fitzmaurice’s management team, he will be the third All-Ireland winning forward on the ticket, alongside Liam Hassett and Mikey Sheehy. Dingle-based Padraig Corcoran will remain as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. Fitzgerald was one of 87 All-Ireland medal winners from the past 20 years honoured at a gala function last week in Killarney by Kerry GAA. A sequel to the memorable ‘Golden Years’ video was also launched by Kerry Group Kerry GAA chair Patrick O’Sullivan said that both the DVD and book were fundraisers for the Centre of Excellence at Currans and for the strategic alliance with Tralee IT in the development of the Kerry GAA High Performance centre. Both are on sale in the Kerry GAA Store in Killarney and online at www.kerrygaa.ie

Can't believe this is not such big news, I recall Weeshie telling me the last time in Healy Park in Omagh that it was our sideline that won '14 for us. Well this will bring joy to one Weeshie, with Currans and this, as the auld Chinese say, 'may you live in interesting times'. Stop the Aussie rules and stop the leak from the pipeline and there'll be no stopping us hitting 50 Sams! I look at the panel we have for the league and they must be a joy to work with, ah maybe my reading Prince's of Pigskin at the moment has me comparing the opportunity fellas have today. We have a lot to be grateful for, past and present, and future of course!

Great to see Maurice back involved with the Kerry seniors. Whatever about the players on the field, we will clearly have the most gifted men on sideline of any county in 2017!!!
